What you need to know

  • Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is the 4th major expansion to Square Enix's popular MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV.
  • Square Enix has announced that players may experience congestion during FFXIV: Endwalker's early access and full release. Square Enix has also made plans on how it plans to ease these potential issues.

After being delayed by two weeks, Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, the 4th major expansion to the popular MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV, will be arriving on its Dec. 7, 2021 release date, with no signs any further delays. Today, Final Fantasy XIV's developer and publisher, Square Enix, has released a statement on the FFXIV website warning players that there is a high chance congestion issues may crop up when they log in during the launch date and during early access period on Dec. 3, 2021.

Square Enix says that this is due to the unprecedented amount of new players Final Fantasy XIV has received during the summer, as well as the large amount of existing players logging in whenever a new expansion comes. In light of this predicament, Square Enix had this to say:

In preperation for these predictions, we optimized our servers ahead of the expansion's launch in order to increase login caps. On the other hand, due to the ongoing global shortage of semiconductors we have previously mentioned, we were unable to add new Worlds before the release of Endwalker. The addition of new Worlds will still be considered as we procure the necessary server machines.

To compensate for the lack of new servers, Square Enix has replaced existing servers with brand new machines with higher processing speeds and optimizing processes that will allow for more simultaneous logins. Square Enix's post also has information regarding login wait times, wait times during instanced content, automatic logouts after 30 minutes, errors when logging in, character creation during peak congestions, and more.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker has certainly received a lot of attention in recent months. From concluding storylines ten years in the making, hordes of new players subscribing and becoming the most profitable entry in the entire Final Fantasy series, this game has a lot to live up to. So, Square Enix is working around the clock to make sure Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker's launches as smoothly as possible.

Will Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker's improved servers be able to contain all these new players and help it become one of the best multiplayer games on PC? We will have to wait until December to find out.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is scheduled to release on PC on Dec. 7, 2021. This expansion promises to introduce new races and Jobs to play as, changes to existing Jobs, new mounts to collect, new areas to explore, and much more.
