Windows 10 May 2020 Update not playing nice with some Lenovo PCs

Microsoft's Windows 10 May 2020 Update has a long list of issues on a wide range of Lenovo laptops (via Windows Latest). Lenovo posted a support page which goes through several of the issues and how to fix them. While many of the issues have fixes, not every problem has a solution right now, so you might have to uninstall the latest Windows 10 update.

Both Microsoft and Lenovo are looking for fixes to these issues that are more permanent, but for now, here are some of the fixes available.

UltraNav driver issue

This issue affects the ThinkPad E570p and ThinkPad L570. If you recover your PC from a system image, you'll see an error message which reads, "Failed to load Apoint.DLL, Alps Pointing device application has stopped." This is related to the UltraNav driver. Here's how to fix it, according to Lenovo:

  1. Open Device Manager by pressing Windows+X.
  2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Select Think UltraNav device.
  4. Right click the device and select Update driver.
  5. Restart your computer.

Yellow warning mark appearing on disk drive

This issue affects the ThinkPad X1, Extreme Gen2, ThinkPad P53, ThinkPad E14, ThinkPad E14 Gen2, ThinkPad E15 Gen2, and ThinkPad T490. It's caused by a limitation of the operating system. You can fix it with these steps, as outlined by Lenovo:

  1. Right-click on the disk drive that has the yellow warning mark.
  2. Turn on BitLocker and then turn off the BitLocker.

Green border appearing around Movies & TV app

This issue causes a green border to appear when resizing the Movies & TV app on your PC. It affects the ThinkPad X395. This is related to the AMD video driver. Lenovo states that a new driver will come out on June 15, 2020 which will fix the issue.

F11 hotkey not working normally

This issue causes the F11 hotkey to not work normally after a system recovery. It affects the ThinkPad X1 Tablet Gen 3. Lenovo states that you can use this function normally by going to the keyboard manager with the steps below:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Select System and Security.
  3. Select Lenovo.
  4. Select Keyboard Manager

Lenovo's target fix date for this issue is June 29, 2020.

Blue Screen of Death

This issue causes the Blue Screen of Death to appear occasionally after a PC resumes from sleep or hibernate mode. It affects the ThinkPad P70. Lenovo suspects that the issue is related to BIOS but is still investigating. Lenovo suggests rolling back to a previous version of Windows 10 to prevent this issue.
