Windows Device Recovery Tool adds support for Alcatel Idol 4S and more

A fresh update is rolling out to the Windows Device Recovery Tool (WDRT), bringing along support for some new devices. Most notably, this update adds support for the Alcatel Idol 4S, along the HP Elite x3 on Telstra and more. Other updates include accessibility support for Narrator and other minor tweaks and fixes.

Here's a look at the full changelog for WDRT version 3.11:

  • Support for Lenovo Softbank 503LV and Zebra TC700J mobile devices.
  • Add new device for HP Elite x3 Telstra and Alcatel IDOL 4S devices.
  • Update the MCJ logo.
  • Added accessibility support for Narrator.
  • Other minor enhancements and bug fixes.

If you already have WDRT installed, the update should be available to download now. If not, you can grab the tool (opens in new tab) from Microsoft now.

Thanks to Jonathan T. for the tip!

  • Yay! Now people who jumped on the Fast Ring for the Idol 4s can finally restore their phones!
  • I was able to do it about a month ago. When you first connect, WDRT would say it didn't recognize the device, but if you put the phone in Download Mode it let you reflash it. Still couldn't get rid of that pesky T-Mobile TV app, though.
  • I don't see any T-Mobile TV app on mine.
  • Me either
  • I have a couple Idol 4s devices here for testing from T-Mobile and they're very nice. They run so much faster than my 950.
  • Really? Faster then a 950. That must be very very fast.
  • It's got a much newer \better processor and more ram so it's expected. Boots way faster.
  • Nice.....
  • Does it support acer?
  • I think that has been added a few month ago.
  • I wish this damned thing would stop rolling back to blasted TH!! Why haven't they put RS1 on there for 950/950xl? Pain in the arse if you are tinkering with Fast Ring. Takes an age to get back to where you were. Yes, I know the 950 range launched with TH, but having to use it for even a short period is PAINFUL. Those who diss RS ought to roll back to TH. It is just awful.
  • Not sure why that happens. Elite x3's rollback is up to date to the very latest OS Production release.
  • Wish this tool had newer firmware for the lumia icon. It takes ages to get it up to date. Probably replacing it with Idol 4s soon anyway. bye bye verizon!
  • Talk about my 640 xl. Up to 8.1.2, then 10586.107, than And then a hard reset. Basically the whole day, if something doesn't go wrong
  • You should have stopped at 8.1.2 ;)
  • LOL. I understand you. In fact just got a 1520 just to do precisely that. I like W10M, but it's not as smooth and trouble free as 8 & 8.1. So my 950 is running W10M as my backup, and my new 1520 is running 8.1.2 as my daily driver. Now Digitally Imported & Pandora comes back on after a phone call. Can't seem to get that feature on W10M.
  • It recognized my Alcatel Idol 4S but not as a T-Mobile version so I downloaded the other choice. Hope this doesn't break my phone!
  • It would be nice if we could flash the Android version to Windows lol.
  • Why would I want to ruin my amazing phone with android.
  • Just curious, did it brick your phone. Is ever thing working as should. Jumped on release build when the phone first went on sale and it screwed up my audio.
  • It didn't do anything for my phone. Just wouldn't install. Still no package for Idol 4S on T-Mobile. Was anyone able to update this for T-Mobile?
  • Couldn't edit previous comment, but I don't think it worked for the non-TMo version. Thus my WDRT firmware was not updated/flashed. No software package for the TMo version. Is this the same for others on TMo?
  • Too bad its not working with my Lumia 950 on fast ring that constantly.reboots, and is generally acting like a non-stabile Android ROM. It's driving me crazy, I want to downgrade to stabile, and it won't see my device. Anyone have any suggestions?
  • It sounds strange but: try a different USB port! I had the same problem and it works with just using another port. Good luck!
  • Finally I can hop on the release preview on my idol 4s
  • When idol 4s unlocked comes out I have a feeling it will quickly become the number one WP.
  • Will windows revovery tool also support flashing windows 10. In near future 😓
  • What is this? im not finding anything online about this device Zebra TC700J is it a typo on there end or something?
  • Look for "Zebra TC70x" - officially, it runs "Windows 10 IoT Mobile Enterprise".
