With Windows 10 and Mobile now starting to hit its stride with developers, we see a sudden resurgence of photo editing apps. However, one change is noticeable: these apps are much stronger than the Windows Phone and Windows 8 apps of yesteryear.
A newish app called Old Look is a bit niche – it makes your photos look like older, black and white ones – but it has an impressive array of options and editing tools not found in many other apps. Old Look is available for Windows 10 on PC but also a UWP for Mobile too.
Even better is it is free for the next few days.
Our George Ponder gave a full review of Old Look back in March and you should read that for a deeper analysis of its capabilities.
I tried out Old Look on the Lumia 950 today and a small warning: this is a rather serious photo editing app. Sure, there are presets, but there is a rather large selection of tools as well including:
- Exposure, Brightness, Contrast
- Channel Mixer
- Highlights and Shadows
- Dynamic Range
- Light Leaks
- 50 presets
The app also appears to save photos in full resolution so there should be no significant degradation. The downside is that less powerful phones may struggle a bit when doing the saving portion, which took 10-15 seconds on the Lumia 950 (image previews of changes, however, are instant).
Overall, Old Look is a striking app for Windows 10 and Mobile that any shutterbug should take for a spin. The app icon is rather uninspiring, but the app looks promising even if it's only to make your photos look dated.
Old Look is also free for a limited time (regularly $1.99) so grab it now so you can lock it to your app library. Remember, if you like the app to give a review in the Store as it helps out developers.
Available for Windows 10 PCs, tablets, and phones.
