Xbox Live core services down, some users unable to sign into Xbox Live on the Xbox One [Update]

Xbox One

Todays’ the day that Titanfall drops on the Xbox One and PC. It’s an incredible game and one we can’t get enough of. Sadly, those on Xbox Live may have trouble playing not just Titanfall, but most other multiplayer games. At the moment, Xbox Live’s core services are down for some people.

It started a few hours ago, but hasn’t been resolved yet. Xbox Live is giving a few of you headaches. Users are reporting having trouble signing into Xbox Live on the Xbox One.

This is a big deal because not only can you not play Titanfall online, but any other multiplayer game. You also can’t access things that require an Xbox Live account. Need to download a game? No dice.

We’ll update the post when services are restored for everyone on Xbox Live. For what’s it worth, we were able to fire up Titanfall and sneak in a few matches with no hiccups whatsoever. Having any issues with Xbox Live? Sound off below.

Update: Looks like we're back in business. Xbox Support (@xboxsupport) just sent out a tweet saying the Xbox Live login issues have been resolved. Though the Xbox Live status page hasn't been refreshed to yet. You might need to power cycle the Xbox One to get everything running smoothly again. Here's how you do that:

  • While the console is on, press and hold the console’s Xbox button for 5 seconds
  • The console will power down
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn your console back on by again pressing the Xbox button

Thanks for the tip everyone!

Xbox Live core services down, some users unable to sign into Xbox Live on the Xbox One [Update]

No sound from Titanfall. The Xbox menu has sound and other games work, but no sound out of Titanfall. Played through a whole online game in silence and said screw it. #pissed

Did you leave it idle or in windowed mode on the desktop or background for maybe an hour or more? Had that happen with Tomb Raider and just had to restart the game and it would be fine.

Reset your Xbox.  Hold down the power button for 5 seconds to shut off and then turn it back on.  Problem fixed.

havent had that on the One but had weird audio issues a couple times on my 360 unplugging my hdmi cable and plugging it back in worked.

That's either a problem with the cable or one of the connectors had this with my ps3 so I replaced the cable

Yeah it's limited apparently. I haven't had any issues at all. My friends also have been playing all day. However we did get a few tips in the inbox that some other readers had issues. Count your lucky stars. How do you like Titanfall?

Yea, I have a problem. When I open the twitch app, then close it, then try to open a game, the game wont load past the splash screen. I have to hold down the power button on the console to fix it. When I restarted the console it signed me out and I haven't been able to get back in since. That was around 445pm est.

Yeah, I was logged in and playing fine. A friend was going to come over and play so I moved the Xbox to the living room and when I tried to sign in again, all I got was fail. If I had known there was issues beforehand I wouldn't have moved it. All those people buying One's today are going to be seriously irked.

TitanFall us awesome. What I'm really interested in now are the whispers from devs in forums saying that they are looking into boosting graphics on XB1 as well as adding higher player counts (up to 16v16) and more titans. EA allegedly forced this game out months before Respawn was ready to go so they did what they could. Might be a DLC addon that kicks off new features. Very intriguing.

I'm not really into these kinds of games, JRPGS and Nintendo games are more what I like, but what you mentioned seems more like update material rather than DLC imo. Then again, it's EA we're talking about here so you never know.

I still have the problem this morning... it is anoying I can't log in, I use the TV and favorite channels which I can't see any more...

It's because of things like this that I did not want an all-digital always online gaming console. Would hate not being able to play single player games because of server outages. Of course, outages rarely happen in the end, but that won't comfort me when I finally find the time to just sit down and play, and it won't work.

This is why I prefer buying the disc as opposed to downloading the game. At least that way i can play something but i have come across games where even with the disc it still requires a net connection to start bleh. I think twisted metal / black was one, from the top of my half asleep brain (could be wrong though :p)

I can play forza 5, AC4 and Ryse fine without internet connection and I have all of my games digital. I played titanfall with no problems since midnight launch. The live outage just game a reason to take a break from playing.

One of the forumers on Baidu says he cannot sign in with his Xbox account on his new Lumia. So the Xbox live for WP is also disrupted?

Bought the Titanfall console bundle and haven't been able to sign in since it arrived early this afternoon. I'm not too worried but feel bad for the folks at Respawn with this happening on their big day.

Could be worse, for the fact that it isn't stopping people from buying the game in stores etc. Although it annoys plenty of people, they don't lose out in sales

I thought it was just me. I was playing Titanfall and my game kept saying connecting to serves then I lagged and connection dropped. I was getting irritated that I couldn't sign in and then found out about the core service and now I'm not irritated. Everything is cool, now I play the waiting game.

Huh. Well I guess this is a somewhat commonality in many MP-only games. I think Team Fortress 2 even has a little story behind the MP mode.

When I logged in at ten this morning here in Everett WA and played till 4 this after noon, I had not a single problem

I bought the titanfall bundle, hooked up the xbone and I can't sign in. Hopefully Microsoft doesn't lose a lot of customers over this...

I tried signing in again this morning and I still can't... Microsoft has the issue listed as "resolved" online...whoops

I played for about 2 hours. My console wouldn't load the settings app so I could update my controller. I decided to reboot the console and haven't been able to sign in since. Turning off and going to bed :/

Been looking at my shinny new Titanfall but can't even play the Single Player (if there is one). Oh well, first world problems. It'll work when they fix it.

This isn't related to titan fall but it appears I haven't been able to log into my live account when I reformatted my phone. It says that I have 'poor reception' but I know I a good connection and are on WiFi. Does any one else have problems connecting to their @Live.com account?

It was working for me as I made it through training mode but then my Xbox froze. After rebooting I started getting the sign in error. This was around 6:30 pm EST.

This is why you shouldn't limit servers to one company. Allow other people to host, and problems like this don't occur. This and games that require always on services are hurt said games(I'm looking at you Ubisoft).

Do you think Microsoft would host their severs anywhere other than their own Azure service? Besides, it's not Azure that's down but Live itself, which could happen no matter where it was hosted.

I'm talking about letting players like me rent and host my own server for the game(much in the way Source games do) not MS putting it out there in other areas. For instance when the beta was down for about 2-3s of the day because we couldn't host our own servers and Azure was having issues.

As to the Live issue, that's a console problem. One that I assume can't be fixed, which sucks for those involved and another reason I don't play multiplayer on consoles.

Speaking as a Developer, Microsoft can better handle traffic than EA, or Ubisoft, or whoever.

Hell, even Apple has a worse track record than Microsoft at keeping servers up.

Signing into Xbox Live

3/12/2014 2:41:16 AM GMT:

Were you experiencing issues signing in to Xbox Live? We are very happy to say that our team has fixed the problem and the Live service is ready and waiting. If you are experiencing any lingering issues, try a cold reboot of your Xbox by powering down, unplugging, waiting 10 seconds, plugging back in and powering back on. Thanks for all your patience while our team was working. Have fun

Well unfortunately I picked up mine today and was looking forward to it and I am one of the ones who can't login.  I haven't even been able to complete my setup so much for enjoying today, but working with servers I understand their woes.  I just wished I could have experienced the XB1 today (at least justify my purchase for the wife, guess I am being demoted to working the corner again lol).  All in all this being my first time other than MS store I really like the setup regardless hopefully I will be online in am when I get off work.

Hahaha "demoted to working the corner", pretty funny.
The other commuters are giving me odd looks because i just burst out laughing lol.

The only problem I'm having is accessing the Store and My Pins. other than that, it works fine. Anyone else have this problem?

In the grand scheme of things, this launch wasn't that bad. First 15 hours seamless, 5 hours down for some. For a game that presold 200,000 copies as of a couple of months ago (can't imagine how many by now), that isn't terrible. Also first major title on new system.

Its not Xbox Live, MS Licensing Servers are down. New Gold members can't verify their codes. Its also bigger than Xbox, you can't register Windows Servers either.

The Anthem is a dumbass. I'd like to try and see you whoop my ass. I'd throw my Xbone up side your girly head.

Mine was down for hours. I got one game of Titanfall in before it kicked me off and wouldn't log back in. Should have expected it from Microsoft.

I love it when a story sound like its the end of the world, and then boom its fixed. As if Microsoft was not on top of things. I would have said, CALM DOWN!. Then slapped you. While other people lined up to calm you down. Like that scene from Airplane.. Wow I'm.dating my self..

I could sign in in the website, hotmail(outlook), onedrive, etc on my win8 PC. I could answer messages with the games hub and smartglass on my PC. I could use smartglass on my 521. I could do everything but sign in to my One, from 3:30p EST to 9p EST I was refreshing the status page until I gave up. Just wanted to mow down zombies in DR3 yesterday.

I couldn't get signed into XBL initially after I got home, so I did some other things for a while. Got started on Titanfall after dinner and couldn't pry myself away until after 2am. Even though I suck at most multiplayer FPS games and usually get frustrated, I've been having a blast. I'm going to be exhausted at work tomorrow (today), but I look forward to playing more tomorrow evening.

If you're on the fence, folks, it's time to jump down. The XB1 is great and Titanfall is killer.

This also affected logging in from Windows Phone. Last night I (unfortunately) decided to reset my 1020. When it came to adding my Microsoft Account back onto the phone it refused from about 8pm until midnight.

Last night felt like the "3 rings of death." Everything was working fine except my headset. Restarted the system and couldn't log in. Tried again this morning and it still didn't work.

Maybe it was for me...LOL. I could not pick up titanfall last night and was really ticked off about it (Wife had stuff to do so I could not run to grab it and I use the gamestop near my work).

I was worried that all my Xbox live frends were going to level up ahead of me (Key word, advantage) but, they could not play !!!

I'm running to grab mine in a hour or so...

PSN was up, I was playing the Left Behind DLC for The Last of US(couldnt play titanfall)....so didn't touch my xbox 360/One last night...

I am unable to access anything on my Xbox Live account on my Xbox One. My apps, games, and even more don't work. This blows. Hope it gets fixed soon.

It has been a few months since the "outbreak" of xbone stupidity have been fixed, and yet we are still being kept from signing into xbox live. My only question is "WHY XBOX?!? WHY HAVE YOU FALLEN SO LOW?!?!?!"
