When will World of Warcraft: Shadowlands be released?

During Opening Night Live at Gamescom, Blizzard announced that Shadowlands will release on October 27, 2020. Release times vary by region, so for anyone in the United States it will unlock at 7pm ET on October 26.

The story of the current expansion, Battle for Azeroth, was completed in January with the "Visions of N'Zoth" update, which let players fight against the agents of the Lovecraft-style Old God that lurks beneath the waters of Azeroth. That means the next update will be the Shadowlands pre-patch, which will likely feature a limited-time event involving the fallout of former Horde Warchief Sylvanas Windrunner ripping a hole in the barrier that separates the Shadowlands from the realm of the living. The date of the pre-patch also has not been announced.

What should I do until then?

Some of the content in Battle for Azeroth will disappear or become more challenging to complete when the pre-patch hits, so if your a completionist or a collector, now is the time to finish up everything you've missed, so far. The Mighty Caravan Brutasaur mount will no longer be sold by vendors and will only be available on occasion through the Black Market Auction House. The Battle for Azeroth Keystone Master: Season Four achievement, which is earned for completing all of the Season Four dungeons at Mythic Level 15 or higher within their time limits, will no longer be available, meaning now is your last chance to earn the creepy Awakened Mindborer flying mount.
