Windows 10 Preview: Only these Lumias are eligible for today's release

Microsoft has just published the list of Windows Phones compatible with the Windows 10 Preview.

Unfortunately, the list is definitely a subset of phone with many of the high-end ones being left off the list. Of course, this will likely change in the coming weeks and months but for now, these are the supported devices for the Windows 10 Preview.

  • Lumia 630
  • Lumia 635
  • Lumia 636
  • Lumia 638
  • Lumia 730
  • Lumia 830

  • Damn
  • Damn indeed
  • Damn. But wanna see all videos please upload fast.. Cant wait to see you guys playing with your w10p
  • Damn too short!!
  • We started at the bottom and now we're here.
  • Still, "here", at the bottom, att 1520 here.
  • The AT&T 1520 is making me feel like I've just drawn the Old Maid card. ;-)
  • Damn. How much longer for the others.
  • Lol
  • My purchase of the 1520.3 an unlocked flagship is looking like a lemon pie to the face!
I this Microsoft played it safe with this one. It's probably an excuse to release W10 but without all the features the flagship phone will require. Plus denim isn't out for all these phones yet. If I'm not mistaken all those phones have denim on them on the gate. Right?
  • :)) best comment ever :))
  • Yes about denim. The MS page said only the phones with denim installed from the store would get it. BS. And here we made fun of its fake denim...
  • What? I have a 630 as a second phone (UK), it is still on Cyan but right now it is downloading TP. Does it really need to have Denim? I thought Gabe Aul said Denim was not required. Confused :-o
  • Not required, but would be helpful. Tell me how it goes. Pm me if need be.
  • Thanks, it went very well. No problem installing TP. But truth to be told, you guys are not missing much, this build is very very very rough. There are no words to emphasise how rough it is. It seem to work ok for most basic function, but UI is a mess between 8.1 and 10. Some screens have new UI, but without any consistency and most of the other screen are still 8.1.
  • Thank you.
  • No you are wrong sir...Denim is not required for win10 on phones....HTC does not get demim remember..
  • Gave Aul stated this reason for high end phones not getting the preview
"Some context on why we chose these and not higher end phones like the 930/Icon or 1520: We have a feature that will be coming soon called “partition stitching” which will allow us to adjust the OS partition dynamically to create room for the install process to be able to update the OS in-place. Until this comes in, we needed devices which were configured by mobile operators with sufficiently sized OS partitions to allow the in-place upgrade, and many of the bigger phones have very tight OS partitions. Note that this doesn’t mean that Windows 10 will take more disk space than Windows Phone 8.1, it’s just a function of the upgrade process at this point. Once the partition stitching feature is completed, many more devices will be supported."
  • Just who were these "Mobile Operators" for the country variant phones such as the majority of 1520.3s?
  • I think you misread, or its not clearly phrased? It means (2) types of device need the stiching update 1) Phones where the operator took space 2) Bigger phones that have very tight OS partitions
  • No, didn't misread. He said it could currently only be installed on devices where the "mobile operators" set a partition large enough for an update in place. I am asking who those operators were for the older devices that were NOT carrier locked. I suspect that it was MS/Nokia who set the size of the partition. And if so, its just another example of trying to shift the focus away from themselves even when what they did was completely reasonable. In other words KISS (keep it simple stupid). Don't add words that aren't relevant to the point being made. Since some people will obvioulsy be annoyed that "their" phone can't be updated yet, throwing in a reference to some nebulous "mobile operator" deflects any of that unjustified anoyance away from MS.
  • I might be misunderstanding this but I don't think there's a "who" in this. I don't think they mean "mobile operator" as in "network provider". I think they mean "operator" as in a systemic internal routine inside the phone model's architecture.
  • Bummer, but makes sense..
  • Not just Denim. Those new devices are comes with correct partitioning scheme so they eligible for the update. Old devices' partition scheme does not match the requirement for the update. To overcome this, they already working on 'partition stitching' so they can dinamically adjusting OS partition. It just that this feature is not completed yet. You can read those explanation here: http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2015/02/12/announcing-the-first-build-of-windows-10-technical-preview-for-phones-2/
  • Exactly but whoever the "mobile operators" are is irrelvant. They should not have been mentioned.
  • This is what happens when you buy a flagship that is over a year old. Over on Thurrott.com he recently reviewed the 930 and explained why it is 'perfect'... and while it (and the 1520) is a great device, the idea that it is going to be the poster child of what win10 will bring to the table is silly. If you want a true flagship, the only real option is to wait. Super frustrating (especially for those of us nursing our L920 devices along), but that is the state of things right now.
  • Definitely not a pie to the face. You still have the best Windows Phone available IMO. WP8.1 probably works great on the 1520. If I had a 1520.3 I would not install a PREVIEW of W10, instead I would test it out on one the cheaper options on this list, like a 635. Better to get the final release of W10 on your flagship device and test the preview on something cheap/secondary.
  • My 635 had Cyan out the gate, said it was up to date. Now has cyan and Win10
  • My 635 has Cyan ATT
  • Triple damn. Where 20 series? :(
  • (Triple damn)² , where is the 720
  • Maybe we're the VIP ones. We get solid build ! 8|
  • Yeah, but maybe next month. My old cheap 520 still in Denim. She said to me she can't wait for Windows 10. :(
  • Fuck it... Why is 1320, 1520 not available still??
  • Because it's not.
  • Whaaatt? So I wait till when...next week, month?
  • Oh well, I guess we'll get to see if those devices have issues...
  • What issues? The low end phones won't have all the features as previously stated. So not a real test in any way.
  • Keep in mind that this is Windows... there are plenty of things that can go wrong with just the base OS, and getting delayed a few weeks may prove to your benefit. This is not a complete/stable release like Preview For Developers is. With this you should expect to see issues.
  • I am actually glad 1020 is not on the list. Otherwise I might be tempted to try it even thought it is my only phone.
  • Are you seriously asking what issues?....
    ......
Even NASA has software issues.. Really?
Even the Preview for developers had issues.
Even the finally release of 8.1 has issues.
  • "In the coming weeks", if I had to guess.  Douches.
  • I love how most of the people getting indignant and upset probably are not even developers or would even provide Microsoft with any valuable feedback I they did have the update right now.
  • I totally agree, MS are stabbing shooting themselves in the foot letting so many have access, when most won't provide feedback and will probably jump on forums or facebook accusing MS of breaking their phone.
  • Why leave any high end phones or any phones off the list at all? Stupid
  • So if something will go wrong, people won't be mad because they have bricked their 500 € phone.
  • Because breaking a $499 830 is so much better. :)
  • I think they did just to personally and deliborately annoy DaveGX.
  • Probably they have other features they want to add for Snapdragon 800 phones, still my 1520 is sad (and also my old 925).
  • Yea why no x20 series at all? Would think those are most common secondary devices people have
  • Staggering the release is likely a good idea to keep everything up and running smoothly.
  • Because those phones don't have the Qualcomm MSM8926 processor onboard, only phones outfitted with that processor are getting it.
  • This is...as a 1520 owner..some rude shit...
  • It's actually smart. Start with the lower end phones so that you can ensure the OS is optimized to run on the vast majority of hardware. Then you can bring it to higher end phones and keep adding new features, all the while testing it out on lower end devices to see what features you are going to make available there.
  • Agreed! Especially given their emphasis on the low-end devices this makes sense
  • So right Penny! It's amazing that people are so militant about this. Talk about rude and no class the way they are complaining. This is not an upgrade yet and is only for people that understand what BETA software really is. If they do they would understand that MS better take it easy and handle this as safe and sure as possible. These same people would be crying their bitter @$$'s off of when their phone was bricked and talking about how stupid MS was. Grow up!
  • +1 totally agree
  • "Some context on why we chose these and not higher end phones like the 930/Icon or 1520: We have a feature that will be coming soon called "partition stitching" which will allow us to adjust the OS partition dynamically to create room for the install process to be able to update the OS in-place. • My 730 isn't showing anything in the phone update after rebooting :/
  • Gotta download an app called "Windows Insider"
  • Yupp...downloaded...den selected insider slow...rebooted...checked for updates in settings...and no updates..doing anything wrong??
  • Go into the insider and click on get the latest build :-) have fun :-)
  • Dont check in settings. You should probably do so in the app...
  • You check for updates inside the app not the phone settings. You may not want to install the preview on your daily driver if youre not tech savvy (not saying you arent) because it will have lots of bugs and things not working.
  • Assuming you're using one of the supported models listed in this article, here's how to get rolling with the Windows 10 Tech Preview. Go to insider.windows.com and make sure you're enrolled. Install and sign into the Windows Insider app. Check for an available build.  Enroll in the slow or fast ring to obtain updates. Go to Settings > Phone Updates and check for updates. Reboot, install updates, reboot, install the preview. Enjoy!
  • Damn, my SMphone can't find the app on the store, already changed region to EUA, but still, its unavailable :(
  • I don't think it shows up in the store search.  Try using the Windows Central app to find it attached to one of the articles about it.
  • May be selecting SLOW ring is the problem, not sure but this build could be only for FAST ring, I selected fast ring and it is downloading right now on my 630.
  • If you don't know how to use the Insider program, then maybe installing the preview may not be a good idea. Just saying.
  • same with my 730. :|
  • Damn damn damn damn
  • "Weeks and Months" I hate those words so much
  • me too...hate it..
  • Every windows users hate it.
  • No Lumia 620. I hope they will eventually get this phone on the accepted phones for preview.
  • same
  • Ah man, what's up with leaving out the high end phones...
  • To hear people like you cry.
  • Gotta go buy a 635 now!
  • Damn. I was ready, and so is my 1520.
  • Where for Lumia 520 ???????
  • shut up
  • Me too, but not Microsoft......
  • For me it's sort of a Damn.  I wanted to use my 520 for windows 10 just in case there's problems, but I do own a lumia 830.  Might wait until it's been out for a bit.  hehe.
  • I was same way, Only big issue is no maps on SD card have to install on Phone and Cortana is a bit weak on reminders and people associations...other than that its great.
  • Very dissapointed.:-( But I suppose that majority of devices are represented across the lower end of the spectrum. To get the MOST feedback from this intentiaonal PREVIEW, availabilty would naturually go to those devices first. Heres to hoping we 1520 users and others are not far behind. Let's keep it cool guys. Enjoy the videos and reviews. One thing is for certain. Windows 10 IS coming to our devices eventually.  :-) Those with compatible devices, please share your feedback and experiences with those of us still waiting in the wings.:-) Thanks!
  • VERY disappointed this time...DevCenter benefits, and all the promises to support developers with early previews were just FALSE.
  • What apps do you have out right now? Did you even care to read he explanation for the current selection and if you did why do you not understand this as it's perfectly reasonable and makes sense.
  • If lumia 1520 from Joe Belfiore can run Windows 10 for phone, then there is no reason for microsoft to not provide updates for 1520.. This is bullshit, bull from shit... I see my 1520 crying right now
  • Joe's phone is running an advanced build that's not available to the public. But feel free to pitch a fit and cry endlessly about it, because your tears are delicious.
  • Too many damn model numbers..
  • Guys,if you want get TP win10 for phone for your 1520,read this link (http://wmpoweruser.com/new-hack-delivers-windows-mobile-10-technical-pre...). I try today and fuck, its work 100%
  • Hate it
  • Yea..
  • Agreed. Leave your die hard fans in the cold. Makes no damn sense. Just release it for all phones. Not difficult
  • I agree...
  • Funny boy @davegx. "not difficult" according to you! They need to consult with you then!
  • Lol
  • No kidding. The very people likely to care about this are the ones who buy flagship phones.
  • The very people likely to care about this are the ones who buy flagship phones And your source for this is...? I care about it, but don't have a flagship. And if I had a flagship I certainly wouldn't want to brick it with an unstable preview OS.
  • Jesus, be patient. Things move so quickly, it may only be a few days. People overreact so easily.
  • Well I am pretty sure the kernel got an update. Ergo, the preview must be tested on each processor separately. And all of these phones are outfitted with the Qualcomm MSM8926 processor.
  • The old ones have partitioning problems.
  • Completely. I was so pumped up with it...
  • So the 1020 gets left out? It isn't considered powerful enough?
  • It's just temporary. Be patient
  • As you may realize they are working to add models.. Or maybe you don't.
  • Yeah, I just read the blog. Their reasoning makes sense, but they could have tried to undercut the hype tide a little by mentioning this when they announced it. Sort of like: "Preview is here, but odds are your device isn't what we are testing in this build. Managed expectations is a good thing.
  • There have been several announcements this would be a release to a selected subset of phones. That woudl indicate there are prerequisites limiting the initial release. And the given explanation makes perfect sense IMO.
  • Its plenty powerful its just the higher end phones get a slightly different OS update and it sucks because we have to wait longer. i almost slammed my 1520 into the ground when I saw the list i was so pissed. We just have to be more patient then i think a lot of us want to be
  • I had said MS would lie again...they claimed the 1520 and icon etc would get denim first - nope the 520 went first.
    ....
Ms said the 1520 and 930 would get 10 first - nope fugging lied again.
  • Specifically when did MS say that the 1520 and 930 would get 10 first? If you just heard a rumor from another source, then that is all it is, a rumor.  It doesn't mean MS lied.
  • I read it here on wc.
  • Source was MS, according to wc.
  • Do you doubt the assertion that the high end phones were to get denim first? No, so odds are, without you investigating, I am correct in what I said about 10 for high end.
  • It's not about being powerful or not, it's about testing... that's why this is a preview and it's not a rtm release.
  • And I'm happy that 630 has 512 MB ram
  • Microsoft?? Seriously? They released it for only 6** models.. They should have released it by giving each model number an update.. And they did they gave 730 and 830 1st.. Who would install w10 and risk a new device.. 80% people wont.
  • No 930. WTF.
  • Precisely my reaction.
  • Same here, but luckily I've got a spare Lumia 630.
  • You re the lucky one :-D
  • This is the US list. The 930 is not available in the US, and the Icon has been having problems with software compatibility for some reason (probably verizon specific changes), so I can understand it not getting the update.
  • We were having compatibility issues because we were still on black firmware and windows 8.0. We just received denim on the icon yesterday so should be good to go now.
  • 930 is basically international version of 929. So it still have old partition model which does not supported for current update.
  • LMAO
  • Nnnnnoooooo!!! What no love for Lumia 928??
  • +928. This list funny :)))
  • No Love for any phone that works on Verizon
  • Lol even 1520 not included
  • 930 either. Erm... maybe MS don't want their customers to break their expensive phones? :p
  • Actually that's true... Alot of people will be mad if they break their expensive phones
  • Those are the people who shouldnt download a beta OS. Although its available for anyone try out its not for everyone.
  • They've demonstrated Windows 10 on a Lumia 1520 and now it isn't available for it. To hell with logic!
  • Good point
  • I agree that 1520's everywhere should have it because of the demo alone
  • Also, wasn't there a leak of a 925 running windows 10?
  • Totally agree
  • I would bet that that's a later build still under internal testing (it is, since he demo'ed Office) and/or it was a full wipe/install instead of an upgrade.
  • Absolutely was full wipe..had too, due to the mystery partition.
  • No ativ s?
  • This sucks
  • Yes omg
  • Well it was a high-end phone when it launch(@ least in Canada)
  • Do you use dev preview on yours?
  • Now I guess that we Ativ S users are going to be last ones to get it. Damn it.
  • If we get it at all, the Windows 10 preview for Mobile seems to be very Lumia orientated.
  • IDK about that. All because the cheap Lumia's are the first beta testers doesn't mean nothing. I'm sure HTC and Samsung will get it to.
  • Bummer
  • Yay for my 635 ditto for my 1520.
  • 930 Left Out!!????
  • http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/preview-supported-phones And depends on your carrier....
  • It does say
Nokia and Microsoft Lumia phones that have: At least 8 GB of storage A single SIM card slot (dual SIM phones are not currently supported for Technical Preview)
So doesn't that mean all Lumia devices and not what listed in the article?  Update: Ahh the page in the article is for EN-US where as the link from wideawakezzz is EN-GB.  Wonder why they are different....
  • But... my 630 Dual SIM is downloading the update?
Wait... The US version of the site lists exactly the devices in this article: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-supported-phones
  • Did you manage to get W10 on your Lumia 630 dual SIM? I plan to get one.
  • As long as Windows Phone 8.1 was already installed on the phone at the time of purchase
  • My htc had 8.1 to begin with
  • Yep that makes no sense
  • The important part is "as long as Windows Phone 8.1 was already installed on the phone at the time of purchase" ...
  • Basically it means it needs 8.1 ready FW ie. Cyan for nokia's
  • Damn -925
  • Same here.
  • Well, we all got excited for nothing.
  • I feel like I just watched the end of the superbowl again.
  • Same here.
  • Me too
  • it would have been better if they had mentioned the list before the release .. So that the excitement would be less ...
  • Agree
  • it doesn't matter when the list was released, you were going to cry about it anyways.
  • They're testing only in phones with the Qualcomm MSM8926 processor.
  • Shit Mann wtf!
  • Well that sux
  • What about Samsung ativ s????
  • We are going to get it last.
  • That is if they even bother to finish the rollout
  • Think that in Greece there isn't even the GDR3 update available for Samsung ativ s... It is not only Microsoft's issue but Samsung's too...
  • Dumb, but hey its a preview for a reason, waiting for my 1520
  • Same
  • F**k yeah ! Got back my 630 today from my girlfrnd
  • Congrats XD
  • Yeah ! Downloading the update , it will take time as u know down speed in india :P
  • Oh no...better repeat that "Don't be a dick" article...
  • True. I got a 920 and will be happy to read everything about the TP before I test it myself. I am not in a rush. :)
  • Me too.
  • Haha I'm saying! ^
  • That sucks.... No 20 series
  • Lol, I paid good money for my 930 and it is not supported. Saaad day.
  • What, these are all Snapdragon 400 phones. That's why... :/
  • I agree. Sounds like they were able to optimize the SD400 since most of the Lumia lineups are using that processor.
  • Well the predecessor that's X20 range its using a more old processor. That too needs optimizations for it to settle on
  • Feeling proud of my L630 with its snapdragon 400 c:
  • Hey buddy, you figured out out too? Guys we are the only ones not hating Microsoft now. ;)
  • Seems not technical
  • Lol!
  • Both highest- and lowest- end models are absent...
  • DAMMMM. 930 =/
  • Noooooo!!!!!
  • No love for the 920 & 520 :'(
  • Great
  • No 1520 lol ok.
  • Seriously?!
  • All lumia *3* series
  • Except 930
  • Wow no 1520, probably one of the best window phones in terms of specs, oh well. I can wait though.
  • Yeah I think Windows 10 will shine on a bigger phone (I bought it last week just for this); kinda annoyed that we're not in the first wave. But I'm sure we'll get even more features when they do release it so i'll just be patient and enjoy what I have for now.
  • Lol maximum anticlimax
  • Ahah totally!
  • So this time the lower end phones get priority. Jealous!
  • This is a joke
  • Well that sucks :'(
  • Jamnit Dim! +1520.
  • What the hell what about old lumia 720,520 etc Posted via the Windows Central App
  • What shit yaar 520 ke liye nai Lumia.***(
  • abi tk to nahi :D
  • Total Let down...  They should have said this first. Rubbish.
  • Ups, two Lumia 930, one 720 and one 520 must wait a little bit more.
  • Lol I'm able to install it :D
  • Tss not the 930, unbelievable
  • Only 30x series and Lumia 930 is not also added my poor 1520 :-(:(
  • This list should have been published a few days ago.... Certainly before the release is announced.
  • Must be April 1st com'n say it! Say it, April fools!...What! No Lumia 1520 you're kidding right or is because they have Denim oh the agony
  • Not for L520
  • WTF :/ i charged my L930 for this.... #MICROSOFT better fix this soonnnnnnnnnnnnnn... waiting for it
  • wow what a waste of electricity.. lmao
  • Again what's with the high end phone left out.
  • Well we got the preview early. And because we are very early in the developer process, the preview is tested only on one processor. (Which is the Qualcomm MSM8926)
  • Wtf... Left biggies... Hope it comes some
  • *soon
  • Nooooooooooooooooooooooo
  • Wow that's, actually weird lol.
  • No it's not if you look closely you will see that all these phones are outfitted with the same CPU.
  • Crap
  • Dude you have GOT to be kidding me.......
  • Not even the Blu Win HD? :(
  • Maybe I should get this, instead of waiting for Denim ...
    /L630
  • Yes man I got preview
  • No Samsung ativ s :'(
  • Haha
  • Why? I was sure the 1520 would get some love.
I'm not one to complain normally, but this isn't helping the perception of no love for the flagship owners. First, no real flagship in a while, and now no preview for any flagship devices. I'm bummed.
  • Having an over one year old flagship with nothing new in sight is one thing... Then not even making the update available for those that have a flagship is just ridiculous....
  • Yeah they will NEVER make it available, right? ;)
  • We know the 1520 will get it. thats the device they are showing it to the press on. I bet its low end phones because those are the phones they need tested. they know it will work on the higher end ones.
  • They are of course testing it on all models.

  • False, they are testing it only on phones with the Qualcomm MSM8926 CPU. They will move to testing it out on other phones later.
  • The point is different - they will tsst it on all models - it is not the case that "they know it will work on higher end models"
  • I don't even have denim jet for my 1520..
  • No 625 :(
  • sorry...
  • Okay buying galaxy s5. #WPRageQuit
  • lol. :-(
  • Lol it's a preview.
  • ...because you couldn't get beta software on the first day it's released? Kinda stupid, don't ya think?
  • This is just for the technical preview... relax. It's not even RTM.#MoronRage
  • Good for you I think you would be complaining here after you would encounter the first 10... 100... bugs. Never learning what alpha version software is.
  • Wht the hell??? When coming fr my 720???
  • This is such bullshit.
  • Hate this phone really windows phone should be banned instead motog like these phones get lolipop update too before going to nexus
  • ?
  • Lol it's a Technical Preview.
  • It's a preview omg.
  • Go and read the "how to not be a dick"-article. Seriously.
  • ROFLMAO.....Microsoft the masters of underdelivering....   Where is the LUMIA 1520 ??? Where is the LUMIA 520 ???
  • They could but then the development process would be slowed down, because of all the CPUs, GPU's, screen resolutions... I.e. not finding out if the problem is phone specific or not.
  • What about roll back software.. Posted via the Windows Central App
  • Microsoft supplies it's own recovery software. No need to worry about that.
  • Lol. It wouldn't be Microsoft if they didn't make something good completely disappointing.
  • Hhhhh, I'm sure they have a reason
  • Yes, they have, for now they are testing the preview only on phones with the Qualcomm MSM8926.
  • Wowowowo keep it up and keep forgetting us
  • There is no high end devices.. What the f*** is going on there..
  • Snapdragon 800 units will come next wave  :)
  • "Some context on why we chose these and not higher end phones like the 930/Icon or 1520: We have a feature that will be coming soon called "partition stitching" which will allow us to adjust the OS partition dynamically to create room for the install process to be able to update the OS in-place. Until this comes in, we needed devices which were configured by mobile operators with sufficiently sized OS partitions to allow the in-place upgrade, and many of the bigger phones have very tight OS partitions. "Note that this doesn't mean that Windows 10 will take more disk space than Windows Phone 8.1, it's just a function of the upgrade process at this point. Once the partition stitching feature is completed, many more devices will be supported."
  • No denim,no preview for 1520.but was charged a bomb
  • Fuuck!
  • Seems not here
  • What the duck what about Lumia 820
  • I knew they wouldn't release it for my 820 yet :(
  • This!!
  • I want the video
  • This is so pathetic. Thanks Microsoft
  • Give us a videwfast wc
  • I think that only open source projects offer an earlier public preview and you are still complaining?
  • Bull
  • ......
  • Hmm
  • WTF. Where is the high-end 1520?
  • I am trying to understand MS but i can not, well maybe they are focusing the efforts on the cheap phones (the most windows phones sold in the world). But Fu** u MS, this is bull sh**!!!! No love for my 1520 then no more love $$$$ for you MS.
  • Don't you think you're overreacting? A) it's a preview build, not like you're missing out on the final version. B) you'll get the preview. How horrible it is that they're taking time to make sure your phone isn't bricked when you install the preview. C) they've explained why high-end phones didn't get it today. Go read it and stop whining
  • WOW your research must SO big. Of you if you weren't so ignorant and realized that all these phones are outfitted with the snapdragon 400 (which that's a 5 minute Google search to realize) then...
  • Welp
  • Welp
  • What.......Please someone explain to me that is not available for 1520, made the presentation last January 21 with 1520 and not even on the list. Please, if a joke is not funny.
  • From the blog post   "Some context on why we chose these and not higher end phones like the 930/Icon or 1520: We have a feature that will be coming soon called “partition stitching” which will allow us to adjust the OS partition dynamically to create room for the install process to be able to update the OS in-place. Until this comes in, we needed devices which were configured by mobile operators with sufficiently sized OS partitions to allow the in-place upgrade, and many of the bigger phones have very tight OS partitions."
  • They made the presentation with the 1520 because it wouldn't look good presenting your new OS on a low end device. So, Microsoft told the dev team to "spend a few hours" on "testing the preview on the 1520" so they they don't embarrass themselves with a "fatal hardware error BSOD" on stage. Kinda like game devs are polishing certain have levels for trailers and exhibitions. Hope that clears it up. :)
  • What would be the reason for excluding the 930 and 1520? The resolution or something?
  • Probably still have some Snapdragon 800 bugs to sort out.  All the phones on the list are 400's.
  • Yeah that must be it.
  • 630...oh yes....!
  • Why no high end phones?
  • Because they need to test it on a single CPU right now. And they choose a low end CPU to see what features low end phones won't support.
I hope that courts it up. :)
  • 820 will wait!
  • :(
  • Wow
  • 735 why not?
  • Exactly the 730 and no 735 seems odd
  • Damn really i thought 520 the first one
  • No 925???
  • No 720...broken :(
  • All the excitement is just washed out
  • Snapdragon 400 phones only x)
  • This is a bull shit
  • Your comment you mean? ;)
  • No its cool. I will keep enjoying constant browser crashes in my latest preview build. Take your sweet time Microsoft.
  • Because the W10 preview will be totally bug-free...
  • 830 here... Must resist... Until reports on the bugs and roll back working properly are in!
  • Don't wanna brick yours huh? Smart man smart man lol
  • My 1020 just cried :(
  • Mine too
  • Well, they are all of the Lumia Snapdragon 400 devices (except, for some reason, the 735). They probably wanted to standardize on one chipset for launch :/
  • Ha ha I knew it. Hurray out today.. Oh no [update] only the low end devices.
  • Damn. I mean my 930 and the girlfriends HTC weren't gonna be guinea pigs anyway but my old 925 is eagerly awaiting some love and I thought this would be it:/
  • I got my free AT&T Lumia 635 yesterday from the Xbox Music deal the other day. I bought it to try W10 on, but then I was thinking that maybe I'd sell it and make a few bucks instead... well those thoughts just flew out the window(s). :) Going to download and try!
  • Gutted with my 930
  • Lumia 1320.. So sad..
  • Fk..all this time waiting...
  • Really, REALLY They choose the low end Lumias first? I was for certain the 1520 would be on the list
  • Unless you want a bricked 1520 or whatever get a Lumia 635 as a Guinea pig
  • We missed 20 series line up here.
  • Fucking cunts
  • wow really?
  • This is a bull shit from Microsoft ass hole
  • Dude, take it easy.
  • My 830
  • Ahh my 820 lol
  • +820 :(
  • I take it the chance of the 810 won't be seeing this preview is slim to none?
  • They should have put that on the list just to mess with people. :-)
  • No 1320 :'( that's so not cool :'( F**k that
  • Hahahahaha... fellow 1320 user here...it'll come soon enough bruh.. hang tight..
  • Is 625 eligible???
  • Here come the moaners... This is an intentional stuttered release. Trust in what they are doing.
  • Got the 730, but i dont know... no backup phones (both sims active) :D . I think ill wait a bit.
  • 0 flagships
  • Point?
  • 730 rocks.....
  • Yahoo!!! Same here bro... Osum
  • Den wat abt 720
  • Wow, thanks Microsoft. I'm glade I wasted money buying a flagship phone that I really couldn't afford only to be left out. Thanks!! The 1520......
    ...
    Not one high end phone.
  • Left out? This is an early beta. Geez people.
  • It's a preview unless you like using buggy software on your driver phone.
  • Well, the DP is also a Preview, and this preview is for TECHies imho, and if you're a tech geek like me you get the high end stuff to be sure to get the latest stuff FIRST, preview or not. This was bit of a douche move, but I can understand, but still, it should be up to the end user if they want to install the preview on the most powerful devices. And buying a "cheap" phone ain't a possibility when there barely are any stores selling them. And those who does puts them farthest back in the corner and forget they even have them....
  • Yeah I understand and it was a douche move lol but it looks they are going to widen the devices that are going to be supported. But these people have waited long enough I'm afraid.
  • I feel like I just checked the clipboard and didn't make the team. #1020
  • Son of ****
    #10 - Lumia 520
  • Ok for My Lumia 720 I think you will give last chance because you love that
  • Hahaha I told you long ago no Lumia x2x devices will get Windows 10. People didn't believe me! Now you can see for yourself!
  • They'll get Windows 10.. This is for the first preview.
  • Read the article better
  • Got my 730 here!
  • Same pinch
  • Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • 929 gets no love.
  • Woweww...!!!! Got mine.. Lumia 730
  • YES 730! wooo!
  • F.u.c.k...how can you leave out high-end phones?
  • What...the... !!!
  • Lumia 920 !!
  • dont put your hopes up.. remember, we're TOO OLD for this.
  • Disappointing, but look at it this way.  If they optimize for these lower end devices... Think how much better it will run on higher end Phones!!
  • Yes....u r ryt
  • your'e ryt.. but still.. *sigh*
  • I'm not going to spaz out like some here, but have they given any reason for this? Seems odd that it would be limited to certain phones.
  • 625 wait...
  • Right now I'm just happy my icon has denim. I can wait for windows 10 & see how it shakes out on other icons. I finally have my heart quality photos back.
  • What about Phone Recovery Tool for Win 10.. Which was Confirmed by Microsoft??
  • use Lumia Software Recovery Tool to get back to WP8.1 from TP...
  • Diz z nt cool... U guyz really wastd tym of ours....
  • What language r u skg
  • I'm actually kinda heart broken, consider that my Lumia 1520 has the phenomenal hardware, and system speed to test a potential build, like Windows10. But, as always, when it comes to Microsoft, my patients supersedes, my anticipation. I will wait, happily.
  • Could someone tell me will the 735 get it as well? I thought the 730 and 735 were pretty much the same.
  • Makes sense. They need the lower end phones tested. They know phones like the 1520 work because thats what they are showing the builds to the press on. They really need the lower end ones tested.
  • Well said.
  • So paying big bucks for a high end phone just means you get fucked in the ass CONSTANTLY by Microsoft...
  • Damn, will you look at all the tantrums going on.  Wow.
  • Thanks a lot L630
  • see?? "it comes by batches." MS uses that term E-V-E-R-Y-T-I-M-E. thanks for keeping our hopes up and breaking our spirit. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
  • Not a single flagship supported! 1520,1020,930,920,... Ridiculous :|
  • +830 (Last Flagship!)
  • Maybe mid range, but no high end flagship (1520).
  • Agreed
  • 520
  • I figure it was just for the newer models phones that were released. lucky i have a 635 too :)
  • A tear
  • Dang, have an old 920 sitting here waiting on it!
  • There is going to be a spike in low end WP sales this week. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • For who have 720 forgot anything Because We Are Invisible for them ....
  • Damn, just bought a 535 just to install Win10.
  • 1520 owners screwed again
  • They know how to play with my feelings
  • How exactly were you screwed?
  • Dude, it's a PREVIEW, not an official update. 8.1.1 is still currently the best OS update to have on your daily driver.
  • Love to try the windows 10 for phone but got just a Lumia ATM so am sticking with you guys advice....
  • any idea when its going to come to 920 ?
  • I am in, 630 bhuya.
  • All people see this
This photo says all Lumia phones
    https://fbcdn-photos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/v/t1.0-0/10998418_...
  • Weird that they didn't include the 735, when its almost identical to the 730.
  • Wtf 625 isn't there in list???
  • Neither are lots of other models. They have started the preview with snapdragon 400 only.
  • Installing now!
  • Well there goes that. I wanted to at least hope to be able to play around with the preview before I give away my old trusty Lumia 920 to my mother-in-law but oh well. I'll just have to watch the video pieces to get a feel for what the update will look like. Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • Most Windows fans buy the higher end phones...really disappointed even though I was going to wait awhile before installing the preview.
  • Nooooo, really disappointed
  • Great, in first you make me feel happy and now I got down... Nice strategy! ¬_¬
  • Even high end phones are not included :O i thought m8 and 1520 will surely be included in the first wave :O
  • Going shopping for a 635 asap!
  • What's wrong with 520
  • Nothing ;)
  • Glad its only available on some devices. That way people have a reason to whine and bitch like crazy, which is their favorite thing to do.
  • that moment when you thought you were in the " IN "crowd only to realize your really not :'(
  • The list of supported phones should have been published weeks ago. Seems like they wanted to maintain the level of interest the media and users have. Lots of people would have lost interest had they released the list long ago
  • Eeww, well im not going to wait and roll with 8.1. Honest opinion. Kinda bad.
  • What about Lumia 735?
  • It appears to have something to do with devices that were shipped with 8.1.
  • I waited 13 years in azkaban and no 1520?!?!?!? Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • -___________________-
  • What the hell. They used a 1520 on stage when showing Windows 10 but then they don't allow it for the initial preview?
  • Exactly
  • Why no lumia 930 :'(</3
  • -920
  • You're kidding me....
  • Have 3 phones and none is on the list.
  • No Verizon variants
  • They should have released it first for all the flagships... 920, 930, 1020, 1520. This is crap. Got me excited for no reason!
  • If they would have released it for the flagships first and then if the bugs or broken OS would have killed your phone you still would have blamed Microsoft for it for spoiling your expensive phone.. I think its quite right of Microsoft to select low end phones
  • This ^ people just don't understand.
  • I get what your saying but think of it like this. The people who buy budget phones usually have little money to spend on mobile devices. It makes it worse for them. If their phone got bricked they might not be able to afford another one, where as a person with an expensive flagship would be more likely to have enough for another budget device. No matter what Microsoft will always be blamed, for high end or low end support. Its just the way it is. Personally I think that they should clearly outline the problems to deter people and the people who download the update can do so at their own risk. Knowing that Microsoft isn't the one to blame because they made their own choice knowing the risks involved.
  • -1520. Bunk
  • This has to be a huge hoax.
  • Yay! My 635 is able to!
I'm currently downloading it as we speak, too. ^^
  • sucksssssss #930 fml
  • Well that's annoying.
  • Wow
  • My 1520 is sad
  • I'm done with Microsoft. Unfortunately, nobody will buy this icon because its a windows phone. Looks like ill be having me a new mp3 player for the car!!! :D
  • Damn it's like you just found out Santa Claus doesn't exist or something all because you didn't get the preview release for your phone.
  • This is bullshit
  • Wow, Microsoft. Way to give users of high end phones the middle finger AGAIN.
  • So the Mrs can get it on her cheap ass 630 but no love for me and my 1520...lol
  • Anybody downloaded it
  • Well, I had guessed it..
  • Damn! I got 6 Lumia phones and the only one on that list I gave to my 11 year old niece(635)
  • Oh wait I got the 830 too
  • There is always a fucking catch with MS...  If they believe peole will buy the newest devices just to get TP they got something wrong.   It pissed me off that they always push us to the side.   920,925,928,930, 1020, 1520  Are we invisible? We dont count? Now we have to wait another month or who knows how long!  I am exicinting but Damn, is like here the candy my dear kids; now give it back for later.......
  • I feel ur pain! I just knew the 9 series and 1520 would be first
  • Said xx20 wouldn't get update. Fucking people don't listen
  • They forced me to fix my wife broken 635. Just spent $20 in the screen and tool kit. :|
  • This is the reason gabe Aul gave for high end phones not getting the preview " Some context on why we chose these and not higher end phones like the 930/Icon or 1520: We have a feature that will be coming soon called “partition stitching” which will allow us to adjust the OS partition dynamically to create room for the install process to be able to update the OS in-place.
  • Excuse me for being skeptical but I dont buy it. Cause we have the 500 series and the 925. They delivery chose the newest phones, so the 635 is ok but not the 925 T-mobile or at&t?
  • Shame!!
  • Well that's a day ruiner right there.
  • Aww, was hoping to use my old 920 as a test phone. Hopefully it'll be eligible soonish... Odd to not provide the preview for the flagship 930 though. Not that I'd put it on mine at this stage! Exciting times though. :)
  • Neither the 1520 nor the 920 on the list.
I got all pumped up for nothing.. :*(
  • Wonder if my 735 is supported. Don't think there's any difference between it and the 730.
  • I was thinking the same, only differences are 730 is dual sim and doesn't have 4g and QI charging. Fingers crossed for the Lumia 735!
  • Calm down people. The high end phone builds are coming. They did the low end phones because they're the minimum spec target and because they're the largest volume of phones or in the wild. It's better to have them do the high end builds right than 1'st.
  • I bet its not because the most phones but because they are the low end. the low end are the ones that need to be tested. they know it works on the 930 and 1520.
  • While I'm not bothered by the lack of 1520 support and I appreciate this is true, these people are the same people who will abandon WP as soon as the next thing comes along. They chose their phones on price vs spec, not because of them running Windows Phone. They are at the end of the day a transient market, who will ultimately disappear even if only to reappear. Microsoft needs to strike a balance between pleasing their loyal customer base and chasing new markets. I'm not sure they're currently doing so. It's not just Microsoft anyway. Blackberry did it and other companies will do the same.
  • No man
  • Say Whaaaaaatttttt!!!
  • Labrats, you're up!!!
  • No problem....i have managed my expectations of Microsoft.....fill their "route to market" time deficiencies with false expectations .....never have been good at delivering expectations...they would be best shutting up till launch day... One more failed expectation and I'm out of here...which is sad
  • So 99% of developers (L930) are excluded ?? ARE YOU SERIOUS MICROSOFT ????
  • Gabe Aul gave this reason "Some context on why we chose these and not higher end phones like the 930/Icon or 1520: We have a feature that will be coming soon called “partition stitching” which will allow us to adjust the OS partition dynamically to create room for the install process to be able to update the OS in-place. You guys are the developers of movie maker 8.1 huh? You of all guys much be reading their blogs instead of blaming ms
  • Oh!!
  • Damn 920
  • They're all new "inclusiveness" could have included a mix. High ends and low ends. But no. Just low ends. Again, thanks Microsoft.
  • So preview for low-ends ?   Hope final release at end of year will not skip high-end also...
  • Awesome... Let the low end garbage phones get all the bugs first I like it + 1520
  • The "garbage" phones outsell the "non-garbage" ones, fyi.
  • Delicious 1520 tears!
  • Show us the preview.
  • Microsoft being Microsoft..
  • No high end phones ?? R u fucking kidding me... Seriously ?? Shudnt they start with high end n then low end... Disappointed
  • Gabe Aul gave this reason in his blog "Some context on why we chose these and not higher end phones like the 930/Icon or 1520: We have a feature that will be coming soon called “partition stitching” which will allow us to adjust the OS partition dynamically to create room for the install process to be able to update the OS in-place. • Exactly. It always in the next wave or coming soon or next release. MS is ignoring their users that stick with them then thumb their noses at those of us that want a flagship and are the ones that want It to succeed.
Everytime I think they hit the bottom with us power users they manage to get even lower.
  • Odd
  • Lol, the contrast of the comments here with the previous one about WP10.
  • Not suprised, just another dissapointment.   I'm getting used to it.
  • Screw you MS...
  • I have a 720 but I was not going to update as it is. So all is cool. Peace. :P
  • No wonder why iOS / Apple tops the market shares.
  • What about htc 8x?
  • Процессор Тип процессора:
Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 Тактовая частота (МГц):
    1500 Память Оперативная память (Мб):
1024 Встроенная память (Гб): 16 ну почему не дать обновление???
  • English please
  • Terrible
  • Downloading! Haha, started before I was reading this so no stress
  • They mention the 8X, M8 & all Lumia Single-SIM 8GB+ Lumias , the article was in Finnish & I'm not sure about the translation
  • I see this also on the Portuguese page
  • What's the use of excluding high end devices if devs usually get a high end device so it has all the features for testing apps on? The company I work for wants to buld for Windows 10 before it's released to consumers, but now they don't even give us the change to do so. Even if they do release it for high end devices, judging from the updates speed it will probably be way too late.
  • how sad my L535 :(( wtf.. they've even used the 1520 for the w10 demo and its not included??!
    nonsense..
  • Totally right! How is that even possible! I mean.... If they used that phone on the stage, probably it was pretty stable on that model, based on the fact that they wouldn't want to make abad figure...well we'll see what happens next!
  • Snapdragon 400 yes... +630
  • the web says no dual sim phones can install, but L730 can..
  • Got to buy a 638 now
  • installing it right now on my 635 :D
  • Don't fret about the high end phones missing from this list. Todays list can be our lab rats and test it out for us should there be any issues!
  • Duh
  • I've 730. Hi hi ha ha ha.!!!!!!
  • No 1520 makes no sense. They used it to demo on-stage. Sometimes it sucks having a high-end Windows phone.
  • Man what a let down... sigh. Well on the bright side us who can't get it yet can hopefully see some useful feedback from those who can now and make a better decision if you're on the fence about getting it. Or some useful tips on how it works... but still. LAAME
  • Really? what a complete joke
  • That Sucks!
  • Wtf!! Had been waiting for my 1020 :(
  • How to download it on 730??? Device rebooted after registration but now showing nothing man....
  • My lumia 1020 received an update. Wonder what it is ?
  • you ungrateful bastards! lol didn't richard post earlier to be nice to msft techs? oh my, the rage here is ridiculous. hahaha. where's my popcorn?
msft, you shouldve announcd ahead what models are expcting the release bfore mking the update official. look what you've done! :)
  • My HTC one weeps
  • I bought a 635 in December for $49 & now I'm going to open it and have fun with Windows 10 for a while!
  • Then they can f*** off. Seriously.
  • So no Denim? No Windows 10 Preview? This sucks -920 :(
  • VIDEO FROM IT WE NEED A VIDEO.
  • Said this weeks ago. ;)
  • As I said weeks ago.
  • Oh cr@p!! I have Lumia 925 and Lumia 930
  • Let the low end phones get all the bugs people calm down
  • Not to be polemic, but... How is even possible that high end device couldn't run the tech preview? I mean, for instance Lumia 930 and 830 are not even so different in HW components, right? this sounds pretty strange.... Anyway...i just wish that Microsoft has an ETA for the next version that might extend this compatibility with more phones
  • Yeah!!!! Cumon son! +630
  • Lets all storm MS ,with pitch forks and torches
  • So leave out the flag ship phones, those most likely to seriously test windows 10? Sounds like a poor choice.
  • [damn intensifies]
  • Is there an update for compressed OS installation of tablet windows 10 preview?
  • I am desperately searching for videos of Windows 10 for phones. Please make one ASAP.
  • Go figure.
  • Ok what about the other phones? Is HTC 8x compatible?
  • Oh oh! Looks like they flip the script on all you high end phone users... #LowEndSupport1st Nice!
  • What is wrong with people here? This is an early beta, and you WILL get it. You'd think this was some finished product and it had been out for months already. Take a deep breath and stop throwing around insults and namecalling. Or go and buy a cheap phone and try it out. Seriously, these phones cost so little that if you're THAT desperate for trying W10, just buy a new phone.
  • Go home you're drunk.
  • show us the video atleast. plsss we csn even download it after few days
  • Furthers m mt interested to costly phone from ms even m fer denim update yet
  • Weak sauce
  • WOW! Thank you Microsoft for choosing my Nokia Lumia 630 for Windows 10 technical preview. So happy today great day.
  • I seriously dont get it
  • Viddu
  • Why not 720??
  • Imma just chill over here in the corner and read the disappointment posts.. lol..
  • Wow at this.
  • still waiting for denim on my 1520. (PH variant). =)
  • I know everyone is moaning about the release for phones, but I think this is good. If Windows 10 can prove to be stable on these lesser spec'd phones, I think that bodes extremely well for its chances on the high end phones with much better processors. I think this is smart.
  • I thought it will be released for Lumia 1520
  • Fuck you microsoft
  • now we can be RUDE.
  • This is a little odd, the page that the Windows Insider App points to when I click System Requirements is this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/preview-supported-phones Where it says:
We're working to get more Windows Phone models supported worldwide. Download the Windows Previewer app and when your phone is supported you'll start getting updates. Windows 10 Technical Preview currently works with the following phones – as long as Windows Phone 8.1 was already installed on the phone at the time of purchase: HTC 8x HTC One (M8) for Windows Nokia and Microsoft Lumia phones that have: At least 8 GB of storage A single SIM card slot (dual SIM phones are not currently supported for Technical Preview)
The Indian page of the same supported phones: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/preview-supported-phones mentions the phones listed in the article. Also, only UK and US English languages are supported.
  • the sv-SE (Swedish site) has the same information as the en-GB, I think they changed the target phones very late and didn't have time to inform the global website teams. at least that's what it looks like   http://windows.microsoft.com/sv-se/windows/preview-supported-phones
  • 830 downloading!
  • This emotional rollercoaster is awesome!
  • What!!!! Oh well, I guess we'll get to see if those devices have issues...
  • Wow!!! I have 730... Guess how excited I am.
  • i hav 1520 :(
  • Well....it's a start.
  • Lumia 635 and no build for me
  • MS should stop bullshitting
  • Maybe has something to do with Denim update for 930 and 1520 being pushed out to the rest of the world sooner than later
  • WHAT!?!?!?! No high end devices is a joke...hahahaha,,,no longer excited...
  • Hurray but not on my 730!!
  • Leave out the flagships but do please moan about employees deserving respect... Where is the respect for customers paying big money for flagship phones that now are left in the shitter!!!
  • Fucking gutted. +1020
  • It is obvious, the first subset are the S400 phones, irrespective of the amount of ram.
My daily driver is a Lumia 830, so no w10 for it. Only when they introduce it for S4 devices ( mine is Lumia 920) and this is probably after the s800 devices, so there's still some time. Well, they can take their time. As Richard said, it is a privilege to try unreleased software.
  • But I get this message in windows insider following phone are supported HTC 8x HTC One (M8) for Windows Nokia and Microsoft Lumia phones that have: At least 8 GB of storage A single SIM card slot (dual SIM phones are not currently supported for Technical Preview)
  • Wat about 625 ? am so sorry !
  • I...am...confused?
  • My poor L925 will have to wait more!!! :P
  • Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!
  • It's good for me :-) I am yet to backup my phone(920)... And if the preview was available, I would have updated anyway without backing up anything... Now I should back things up and change my sim to my trusted Lumia 900... Doing right away :-)
  • Lumia 1320 :(
  • Add X20 Series also quickly....
  • I love how they said no dual sim phones but 730 gets it but not 735. But don't worry guys I'm sure we'll get it really soon... :)
  • Currently downloading on my Sprint Lumia 635!
  • I wonder if this has anything to do with the Denim update for Icon/930 only coming out yesterday and the 1520 models not getting Denim yet for AT&T and some others. Maybe they're waiting for Denim to be released for those devices
  • :( why not 930
  • Wow what a surprise, I would have expected the high ends to be first to get the new software like everything else Microsoft releases. Glad to be first in line for a change.
  • I'm as bummed as anyone else, but there is a method to their madness.  It will come eventually! The comments here make me think a lot of people here probably should not be loading this on their phones when it becomes available.  If you're this angry when you don't have it, I would hate to see the tantrums when you have it and it bricks (hopefully temporarily) your phone.
  • No Preview build for high end phone L1520? U must be kidding MS, hope it come soon? Would be nice to test the WP 10, because this phone will be my first and last windows phone.
  • What a pitty that my Lumia 830 bought in China is off the table..
  • I wonder if the installed apps work with Windows 10 preview. We have two options when we sign up - Insider slow and Insider fast.
  • Even the 820-920-925 isn't at the list and the Lumia 830 have inferior processor I don't understand 1,2ghz isn't superior than a 1,5ghz so don't even understand
  • Captain here!
All these phones are outfitted with the Qualcomm MSM8926 processor.
Ergo, Microsoft only tested the preview on this processor. Why? Probably because the kernel is updated and the kernel interacts with the processor. Or something... For the technical stuff ask another captain I am not that's experienced.
  • I swear people stop complaining rather buy a 630/5 then mess up my daily driver.
  • Only snapdragon 400 devices are supported for now. I guess snapdragon 800 devices will be next and then the older x2x series devices.
  • Not surprised. Microsoft has blown this entire mobile competition and will continue to do so
  • :( oh well, it's probably in a pretty buggy state anyway, being so far from release
  • Yay my 830 will be able to get the update!!!! Main phone: Nokia Lumia 830 White  Tablet: Apple iPad Air 2 64GB Silver
  • Awe well I'm sure it will here soon enough. Rome wasn't built in a day. .
  • I'm so pissed that my 1020 is not on the list but could it be that these are the best selling devices currently?
  • Never mind. At least we will get to know the pro and cons of the Technical Preview. Let's hope for the best. :)
  • Damn
  • I don't understand it either. Why make a list of supported devices? All PCs were eligible for win10 why not all phones?
  • This sucks. The majority of people that are going to test this have a nicer model than these. So I have to downgrade for this? Or wait weeks/months? Lame. So I can't put it on my 920 or 1520... Lame.
  • I purchased Nokia 830 unlocked here in US from Amazon, currently using it on wifi. .how can I get the preview. .? I suppose I need to developer unlock it via SDK first. .?
  • Don't worry about supporting models.... Some times on 16 Feb another update will come with more device support...
  • Damn... So unlucky.. Neither the lowest 520, nor highest 1520...cannot even try on my newest 930.
  • Midrange FTW! My 830 will be rocking it.
  • NAILED IT !!!! Lel
  • What about Lumia 1520?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Well can't be too mad. At least it started!
  • The video is already up on the WINDOWS YouTube channel. I'm bummed. Maybe Denim will come soon for US 1520.
  • Dang it I thought all the whiners would be satisfied after Icon users got their updates and the W10 release.. O well
  • No 930? Epic fail!
  • I just got denim yesterday. I don't want w10. I just want to watch videos of windows central using it
  • I have 620 and Denim is not yet out for my phone yet. So will I be able to install Windows 10 with Insider in my 620?
  • They showed W10 with L1520 demonstration, but not in the list Ahhhhhh
  • MS Fire Department to the rescue. Blaze extinguished.
  • I tought my 630 would miss update because of RAM, but hell I'm pleasantly suprised.
  • Now im glad I picked up my 830.
  • The fact that the list is so short worries me that they are not as far as they should be in development for a mobile OS that should be out end of the year. Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • Why Lumia 630 is listen and Lumia 620 is not wen it has the same specification -_-
  • I mean, why would you want to release it for the phones with the better specs first? Ludicrous!
  • No 1520 wtf
  • Well since 930 isn't on the list it will give us the chance to actually study and see what bugs arise before we install the preview.
  • Only in 15 minutes we have more than 400 comments: FANBOY AND LAGDROIDS these are windows phone lovers!
  • I'm not sure 'lovers' is the right word today.
  • No 930 and 1520 is fucking absurd. Burning US enthusiasts after demo of W10 on 1520 is simply unacceptable. :-S
  • Deal with it.
  • Where is 930?
  • Wait a second. Support page clearly states that dual SIM phones aren't supported. So how in the hell 730 got it, but not 735?!
  • No HTC One M8?
  • c'mon... Denim is only 29.5 hours old on my icon. I want another OS update so I can complain for another 11.5 months for firmware to complete it!
  • Lumia 1520 for sale! I cant stay like this anymore! Samsung Galaxy S6 - take my money!
  • THIS IS A PREVIEW. THE 1520 and others phones are coming in weeks, so why bother?
  • Hahahhaa c'est quoi ce bordel ?
  • Not that I wanna be a negative Nancy, but weird that a) the 520, their highest selling phone and developer testing vehicle isn't included, and b) any high end device feels like should be included, because they're your most financially invested in it. But alas, not sure the technical reasons behind it, as I'm sure there are technical reasons behind it. FYI, full disclosure, I own a 1520 and 520. Was planning on installing on 520. (sniffs)
  • Wtf!!!!
  • I hate everything right now! 1520 here. Smh
  • So when it'll be available for the other Lumia phones?
  • A little bit of respect for high-end devices, please.
  • Sooooo, I want to thank MS :   I onw a Lumia 920. Not only I do not take the Denim update (yet), not only I see devices like L520 or L530 get Denim (!!!) but now I can't get W10??? My device used to be a flagship. I know it's been a long time since then, but nevertheless I payed a lot of money to purchase it.  I really do not get why my model doesn't get updates among the first devices that do...
  • The reason why Microsoft chose the phones they did is posted right here on this website you moron. Instead of making a crybaby post, you should shut up and read the articles.
  • Check the time. I posted before they announced the reason... You don't know me. So, instead of calling names to people that are just expressing their opinion on a site, I suggest you channel your attitude towards someone else. Maybe someone you know and you can physically see.
  • Swedish techpreview page has a different list of device, HTC One and HTC 8x included there:   http://windows.microsoft.com/sv-se/windows/preview-supported-phones
  • yes
  • Just another waste of time, thought we were all going to be able to test it my back up 820 was ready
  • Sigh
  • What about Lumia 520
  • It's a low end phone made by Nokia, is there anything else you wanted to know?
  • This is my entertainment today.
Tours is what happens when people who know too much say "Oh, well at least we know it'll come to my 930 or 1520..."
    Posted from my 830, lol
  • They. Demonstrated. The. Preview. On. A. 1520.
    ..........
  • Well its ok... We waited upto now so lets wait for some more days for our devices to get windows 10.. I really thank Microsoft that even my 520 will get w10 update
  • HTC Left out
  • WTF weren't we just told that the 1520 will most likely be one of the first to test?  Geez...
  • You didn't get that information from here, so you likely listened to some dumb ass.
  • What no xx20 models.. Did say this weeks ago.
  • Damn I wanted to put this thing on my 8X because I'm using my 635 daily.... Dilemmas
  • All amped for nothing. No Lumia 1020, womp womp. Guess its time to bust out the backup L635!
  • Damn
    +Lumia930
  • Looks like I need to rush for a Lumia 6xx for win 10???
  • And absolute fucking joke Microsoft. Thankfully, I use my Note 4 exclusively and my 1520 just sits on my nightstand in an off state for the past two + months. Microsoft isn't going anywhere with their mobile platform. Stop kidding yourselves everyone. I'm sure I'm gonna dump my Lumia on eBay soon to get what little I can for it. Looked today, for a so-called flagship that's only been out for 6 months, going rate on ebay for a new one is in the $200's. Pathetic and an indication of nobody wanting one. See ya Microsoft.
  • Have fun with your Android, be sure to keep your antivirus up to date.
  • Keep my antivirus up to date? Ok first of toughguy, if you even had a remote clue of what you are talking about then your above post would maybe have a bit of revelence to it but obviously you have no clue whatsoever so my suggestion would be to keep your mouth shut. I see that you just signed-up for this site this month (perhaps even today) and every post that you have posted in this thread (there are quite a few) is a negative comment in response to someone else's comment. You are the ultimate troll. I'd be willing to bet you have a Twitter account and you just shoot off negative replies to complete strangers all the time. Grow up. Learn about stuff before you go spewing garbage from your mouth. I'm sure you'll probably respond to this with some negative toughguy act, go ahead. I'm done with you. Just wanted to expose you for the troll you are.
  • A little perspective folks, so you don't get to try the preview on your high end devices today and maybe mot tomorrow, but the petulant tantrums from presumably grownups are embarrassing. I I have a 930 and was looking forward to it as much as the next guy. But surely she thing don't go our way, we don't just last out like a spoilt child. Just be patient, listen to what Gabe and Joe & co are the reasons and she we can expect it. In other words... Suck it up!
  • No denim no wp10 for my phone
  • Rubbish from Joe and Microsoft
  • Your posting is rubbish.
  • I don't understand: Microsoft page says all 8gb phones not dual sim are eligible, plus 8x and m8?
  • It's probably a blessing in disguise for those not following the announcements and those who don't even have a WP that they left higher-end phones out for further testing. Surely we'd never hear the end from those rushing to use their only phone if they were bricked running this very early pre-release os.
  • Only phones that were purchased with 8.. No xx20 range then.
  • My 822 and I are patiently waiting.
  • This could be one factor that results in a 3% market share. Buy a high end phone and get a big Microsoft middle finger. You guys don't know squat about about Inclusiveness....
    ...
You could have mixed the release to include both low end and high end.
  • AT&T 635 is $50 on amazon. Time to buy a test box!
  • In. Windows family Lumia 1320 also included you guys forget that device in adding your list..
  • 520.. ):
  • Some context on why we chose these and not higher end phones like the 930/Icon or 1520: We have a feature that will be coming soon called “partition stitching” which will allow us to adjust the OS partition dynamically to create room for the install process to be able to update the OS in-place. Until this comes in, we needed devices which were configured by mobile operators with sufficiently sized OS partitions to allow the in-place upgrade, and many of the bigger phones have very tight OS partitions.
  • The video demo is a yellow Lumia 1520 that's confusing
  • http://nooooooooooooooo.com/ Lumia 1020 here :scumbagMSFT:
  • Well goodbye Microsoft I'm going back to Apple, just why I have a old 625 and a new 930 none of them are in the list and no denim
  • You say you'll go, but you won't. You'll stay around and continue crying just like everyone else. So dumb.
  • Wow... Really? Well at least it saves me from a possible bricked Lumia 920.
  • Windows 10 for phones out today! Can test it on my.........
630,635,636,638,730,830 don't have one of those!!!??!! Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Damn you, AT&T!!!!!
  • I can't even...
  • That's great for the five people who have these phones and who actually want to join the preview
  • Now what is this?
  • Screw this!!!
  • Killing me. Looks like the back up phone is eligible though.
  • Oh that's just perfect! ;(
  • Oh what a crock of shit. Lol oh wells...
  • This is why apple rocks. Their phones don't have this shit problems...
  • What? This is a Beta-Build. Even Apple has restrictions on their Beta (besides you have to be a registered developer). Better shut up if you have no idea what you are talking about.
  • Why not 525
  • They should have released it to the x2x phones because almost all users use them as backup phones and not the x3x phones.
  • Msft was smart to limit the phones to a few so the larger community doesn't get hit with buggie software and start bitching about it as they usually do. Let the few on the initial devices sort it out and then move forward with the higher end phones when the critical bugs are gone. Bitchin about not having something yet is less damaging than folks bitichin about how the OS bricked their phones....
  • Has anyone tried to put it on another device? Maybe "eligible" means it mostly works, and not eligable means proceed at your own risk?
  • Ha! And I was wondering if I should install on my 1520. I guess I am out anyway.
  • Well crap.   Anyone want to buy my 810?
  • Hey the list has been updated. It says now the HTC 8X, One M8 and single-sim Lumia Phones with at least 8 GB free
  • Interesting take a look in the other countries page.
  • Nice. I got the xbox deal just so I could have a 635 to play with on W10 TP.
  • You got this preview very and I mean VERY EARLY off course they are not testing it on all devices from the start-up, for now only phones outfitted with the Qualcomm MSM8926 processor are getting it.
  • Kind of a bummer it isn't available for the 1520 yet but I think it is logical to push it out and get it optimized for the entry level devices and then the higher end ones should be even better
  • Woooow. I suppose the tech preview will never come to my ATIV S
  • Damn Lumia 625
  • I have four windows phone and none of them are one last haha. I have some too high end, and one too low end. And one not even a Nokia!
  • Nothing for 930:(
  • 930?
  • Shit happens, deal with it
  • It's a wack decision and I don't really understand. It'd be nice if there was some clarification.
  • The explanation has been posted on this website, stop crying and start reading.
  • Fuck!!!! Just broke my heart
  • When Lumia 625 get this update
  • All the poor 1520 owners who bought one to compensate. Now you need to suffer the embarrassment of hearing "Oh...you only have 8. Yeah I got 10. My girlfriend likes it.".
  • They didn't buy a 1520 to compensate, they bought one because they could. It's a shame you didn't have enough money to do the same.
  • Really annoyed by this...
  • Sorry, i am still a proud Windows Phone User. And i never moaned or had bad words about the process. But now, i am too at the Point where i can only say: I cant hear "soon" anymore. I CAN'T Believe why they havent first finished the Problem with this Partition stitching for the first wave. I am 100% sure that most of the real Windows Phone fans that will try this preview have the high-end phones like 1520 and 930. *sigh* i am also a big MS fan, but this combined with all the other things (doing more on Android and iOS) is really disappointing for a fan, and i could understand completely when some Folks are thinking of switching And the fact that Joe (he is a real cool guy, and i like him, so no bad words about himself!) is using the 1520 in the video is basically a slap in the face to all 1520 owners which are wating eagerly :(
  • No no no what about my l620. That's not fair
  • Unbelievable. No high end phones. This is how MS care about who invested most in the company. Unbelievable.... :/
  • Microsoft treats all of their customers the same, regardless of which handset they bought. You have a really dumb way of thinking.
  • Excited for the update. Anybody got it on HTC 8x? The insider website says, Win10 supports it....
  • Yaaaay!!
  • What the hell.. 1520 is not there in the list.
  • They're skipping all of the people who don't know how to spell, which is why you didn't get it.
  • As we politely say in the Netherlands.....kutzooi
  • Can we be rude to Microsoft employees again, now?
  • 920???
