Nokia Pure View 41MP camera sensor announced, Windows Phone in the future

WP Central

Nokia just blew our minds with the Pure View announcement. A Symbian powered device, the 808 features an astonishing 41MP sensor allowing photos to be taken in 5MP, 8MP and 38MP variants.

WP Central

Photos can also be saved in special formats to allow easy sharing over social networks, email, etc. which will be important due to their potential size. The 808 is expected in May for an estimated 450 Euros.

WP Central

Of course the big news is Nokia obviously plans to eventually bring this kind of tech our way to Windows Phone. But the OS will need to support that and we bet it won't happen till Apollo this Fall. But you can bet that will be a killer Windows Phone. Kudos to Nokia for the technological leap here.

Nokia Pure View 41MP camera sensor announced, Windows Phone in the future

From the front it almost looks like a Nokia Sabre except with a black front instead of a white one.

Lol!  I know, right?

My N8 is tops in the camera department, but this Pure View technology coupled with the new Nokia WP Apollo devices coming in Q4 2012 - I am more than ready to give Nokia my money!

And the best part? This technology will not come to WP with Apollo. Windows Phone just got that much sweeter.

Awesome. Can't wait to see this manifest itself in WP. Goodness, Nokia is the best thing ever to happen to WP.

OK, it's a little clearer now.  The default image size is 5MP, though you can shoot 38/34MP!.  The sensor oversamaples down to 5MP, which should remove noise.  Also, the digital zoom is lossless (@5MP), though as you zoom you lose the oversampling.
Interesting.

Indeed, what's the point? How about the level of noise at ISO200 let alone ISO 400 (aka indoor). 41 MP is nothing but a number from the Marketing Dept.

Aren't people usually going on that MP numbers are ridiculous and useless numbers? Now this is the greatest thing since slice bread?

Yeah there's sp much more to a cameras output than just its megapixels. Its like how a few years back tv manufacturers were going back and forth with competing contrast ratios.
