Borderlands: The Handsome Collection requires separate 4K texture packs on Xbox One X

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is an amazing package which runs at 1080p 60 frames per second (FPS) on the base Xbox One. It contains the critically-acclaimed Borderlands 2 and the not-so-critically-acclaimed Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. While the games originally launched on the Xbox 360, this updated version is a blast to play because the shooting feels smooth and precise.

Today, Gearbox Software released a 4K patch for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on Xbox One X. Unfortunately, you have to download add-ons which total roughly 15 GB. This is the first time we've come across a game which doesn't automatically update the textures, but requires the user to manually download the assets.

Once the patch hits, the game is expected to run at 4K 60 FPS on Microsoft's latest console. Hopefully the performance will hold up because revisiting Borderlands 2 will be an amazing experience on a 4K display. While the current 1080p picture looks great, it's still blurry if you have a 4K device because it's being upscaled.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Ultra HD Texture Pack

Keep in mind that this requires an Xbox One X to use because a normal Xbox One can't handle the memory requirements. Don't download the texture packs on a normal console.

  • too bad they didn't apply it to the backward compatible 360 version as well
  • According to Gearbox the UHD texture packs will also enhance lower resolution textures as well. I am not sure you are correct about the "Don't download it for normal Xbox One". One X will get the most bang for their buck but the enhancements were suppose to effect the 1080p experience as well
  • The disclaimer we received in a press release said that it just works on the Xbox One X.
  • Considering textures aren't resolution exclusive, they would provide some improvement on the standard system.
  • The standard system doesn't use the 4K textures.
  • One of the downsides to consoles I guess over PC, they don't leave it up to the consumer to decide, but oh well.
  • the game is still gonna look like a ps2 game either way though
