Windows Central review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Why buy the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D?

The reasons why the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D is powerful is because it's equipped with a 3D V-Cache, 16-Cores, 32 Threads, a 144MB Cache Memory (specifically 128MB L3 and 16MB L2 Memory), a base clock speed of 4.3 GHz, and a max clock speed of 5.7GHz.

As you can see from the benchmark tests above, all this tech allows the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D to stand above most of its competition in terms of processing power and multitasking heavy-duty productivity assignments and/or content creation projects with ease.

These performance rates also translate to PC gaming. Our tests from our review on the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D showed it can help PCs run demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077, Black Myth: Wukong, and Monster Hunter Wilds at high framerates near or well above 60fps on high graphical settings.

The only real technical issue with the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D is that its energy-thirsty 170W base TDP requires advanced cooling systems like an AIO liquid cooler to keep from overheating.

Plus, it has a rather pricy MSRP of $699.99, making it less valuable than other alternative AMD CPUs dedicated to specific needs with similar performance rates and lower prices, like the purely gaming AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU.

However, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D's pricing issue has been mitigated just for this week, as Amazon Gaming Week has reduced it from $699.99 to $573.99, making it more palatable for users looking to upgrade their rig with the best performance rates possible for PC gaming and work.

FAQ

Most of Amazon Gaming Week's discounts will last from April 27 to May 4, 2026, but some bargains may outlast the event by a few weeks.

Is the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D better for gaming compared to the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D?

While they have comparable performance rates, AMD confirms that gaming performance for the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D won't budge much more than 1% for most games unless they take full advantage of its additional cores and threads.

This means that the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is considered a smarter pick for pure gaming in terms of monetary and performance value.

Does it work on AM5 motherboards?

Yes it can. However, older 600-series motherboards will need to update their BIOS to function with the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
