The HP Elite x3 acts tough with a Rugged Case and Kevlar back

HP is gearing up its Elite x3 phone with Windows 10 Mobile for a late summer release. Besides the Mobile and Desktop Extender accessories the powerful will also get an optional passive stylus and a few cases including leather and silicone variants.

One version of the case that is perfect for those working outdoors is the Elite x3 Rugged. HP describes the accessory in their QuickSpecs document:

Shield your HP Elite x3 from whatever the day may bring with the anti-slip grip, shock-absorbing HP Elite x3 Rugged Case, which is designed to pass MIL-STD drop testing up to 6 feet (1.8 m).

French site theWINdose got an early look at the rugged case as HP has been taking the near-final phone around on a media tour. The case reportedly has a Kevlar back, and it looks the part for added protection.

No word on pricing for the Elite x3 Rugged Case, but a recent pre-order for the Elite x3 pegs the phone at €699 (~$772 USD), a price that French tech blogger Cassim Ketfi reportedly confirmed verbally with HP France. Ketfi also heard that the phone could launch in late August, but the date may move depending on various factors familiar with any hardware launch.

We've reached out to HP (US) for confirmation about the price and launch date and will follow up if necessary.

  • This comes so close to being the ultimate WP! Just throw in an 82 megapixel Lumia 1020-successor Pureview camera, double -tap to wake, and glance and we'd have it!
  • Yes.. I'm not too sure about that camera. That's literally the only thing I think might not make this the perfect device... And, this is a BYOD device. The camera really needs to be good for off duty activities.
  • I Excel at off duty activities. Posted from Pornhub.
  • Lol
  • I noticed you said you are a 30year old mother of two, why then are you so proud of using "Posted from Pornhub" as your signature? Just curious, why do it?
  • What, a lady can't have a side job? You judgemental PoS.
    ..
How do you think I got those two kids? Posted from PornHub

  • This is gold. Thank you very much, Madam. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • You fool. What's there to be proud of? Call me judgmental, you shouldn't be proud of that. "Yeeeh see I got two babies by banging dudes on Pornhub" shot up and go get a desk job, you tool.
  • Ha. I'll have you know my art work has consistently received 75% and above positive reviews. That means, I'm good at what I do. Yes, I am a tool for stupid men like you who pay me to be with me.
    ..
By the way, no matter how my babies came to be, they are far more beautiful than you - they are fed, live in a beautiful home and love Windows Mobile - bi*ch.

  • I'd purchase this HP phone if it were on Verizon.
  • I'm leaving Verizon for this phone. Although, in truth, I'm leaving Verizon so that I can get any decently supported Windows phone.  This will just be the perfect phone for that move.
  • Me too. I have been waiting to leave vzw for a while. Just wanted the device that would push me over the edge. This is it. Bye Ver-lecia!
  • How about leaving the nations most expensive carrier for raising their rates and a shiny new WP is icing on the breakup with big red cake
  • Your mistake is being on that useless carrier who controls which device works on the network. Be on GSM networks like T-Mobile or AT&T and use unlocked phone of your choice.
  • A dedicated camera button would go good with your 82 meg camera. Miss the days when that was mandatory. They removed the requirement thinking OEM's would release Windows versions of their existing phones. We got one phone out of it, the HTC One. At this point, just bring the requirement back, atleast for high end phones.
  • Oh yeah, we need that button. Dumb to not include it.
  • Be sure it will get red stone 1.2.3
  • Removing that requeirement was (one of) the stupidest thing Microsoft could have done. Once you have it you never want a phone without it. Same for the lanyard hole on the 1020, it saved my phone countless times, don't get why more phones don't have it.
  • Still doing the megapixel hunt? :) Give me a super fast focus instead.
  • It's thr zoom I want, AND fast autofocus! No trade-offs required while we're dreaming... I forgot to throw in water-proof also.
  • Oh, can't believe I forgot to include a real keyboard. So sick of goddam muthafricken TYPOS!!!!!
  • I bet that was one right there...
  • I never use zoom. More pixels means less light per pixel, no matter how you look at it. The Pureview technology make the best of many pixels though.
Fingerprint reader is something I miss EVERY time I unlock my 950..
  • Its not just good for zooms, but also gret if you want to have one of your photos prited as a full wall wallpaper print; looks incredible and I could never get that much clarity and detail in a full wall print without the 41mp camera on the 1020.
  • -Great Camera with a dedicated camera button.
    -Active pen support.
-Un-roundy, better design..in addition to the Elite X3,
    For the ultimate WP.
  • I have to agree, after having the 1020 and enjoying the deep zoom feature as well as countless other benefits of such a huge mp count, I would not buy a phone with an inferior camera no matter how much faster it can snap shots.
  • I still ponder the possibility of this being sold at a major carrier..
  • I hope that comes true, and I hope AT&T is the one.
  • AT&T will certify it for their network, but no plans AFAIK to sell in-store. Of course, anything that sells well could get picked up at some point, so you never know.
  • Are you getting one❓
  • It looks beautiful
  • So do you.. Wink-wink
  • Wow very unexpected reply but thanks
  • An Italian website claims that this phone will cost around €600-€700. That's as much as an iPhone 6S Plus. For that price they better include the desk dock or lap dock and the stylus
  • Desk dock maybe! but Lapdock cant be included in THAT price for sure.
  • For a phone that is much better than an iPhone it's a steal right?
  • Considering they can't even sell the Nuans Neo at a discount and the Acer was stillborn, I don't see how they are going to sell this at all.
  • 6S Plus costs lot more than that, has 3MPx less and will give you no dock/pen to it
  • I want it so badly, does it will come in white??
  • Graphite or Gold.
  • Do you mean the Kevlar case? I have never seen white Kevlar... Binging images now.
  • http://compositeenvisions.com/images/p-1440-red-carbon-fiber-kevlar-pane... I want this pattern lol. But black will do.
  • Ooops. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • That case amazing Kevlar!!! Is this the new Batman phone LOL
  • So you're saying that the 950 is not good anymore for Batman? It was ok during the BvS movie
  • Expensive, but a good price if it includes the dock.
  • I'm sure this is a stupid question, but does the Microsoft Store offer any kind of payment plan? Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • No subsidizing of Unlocked phones unfortunately. If they did I'd have a 950XL
  • I'd upgrade my 1520 for sure if that were an option. Paying $700-800 up front, I don't believe the wife would go for that.
  • We might be in luck. It turns out that Microsoft does offer payment plans. It's financing, not subsidizing, but it's better than nothing. https://www.microsoftfinancing.com/en-us/home Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Beast Phone!
  • I have 2 of 950 and 2 of 950xl... If I buy this one too then would people call me nut case?
  • No, a W-Pnut.. And that's way better than iSheep right?
  • Hahaha! "W-Pnut"
  • This isn't just a phone... It's a portable communication device that runs Windows 10...
    This is big.
I want one. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Pretty much bored with my Lumia 830. Sign me up and take my money already!!!
  • I so want this phone. Might give my 950 xl to wifey for this one
  • All these articles are such a tease...
  • Fugly.
  • I wonder if the 820 chip is enough of an upgrade to make the phone usable in Continuum. The 950XL seems just a bit too slow to me.
  • This has taken my urge for a Surface Phone away ☺
  • N not mine, but good luck if you g get this device
  • Sources have reported that the laptop is included with the device! I believe the dock to so this is a brillant price including these features!!!!
  • Link?? Source?? Where we can confirm that??
  • http://mspoweruser.com/rumour-hps-elite-x3-will-be-available-for-e699-in... it says this "In fact, the company will be selling the HP Elite x3 with the Lap Dock which is basically a portable 12.5-inch display for Continuum for phones"
  • WSPoweruser & a few europe articles state it
  • Yes, HP France tell us: 699€ Without Taxes for Elite x3, 1200€ Without Taxes for Elite x3, Continuum Dock and Mobile Extender (laptop) http://thewindose.fr/exclu-hp-elite-x3-prise-en-main-du-produit-presque-...
  • LOL. Here's one device with same soc & screen with premium housing & proper camera & all the apps and games of the world. Why are Window phone massively overpriced? http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/07/04/zte_axon_7_a_surprise_flagship_c...
  • Mate this phone is cheap for what for getting! Plus its for developers, business and enterprise people :) its not your local iphone which can pick up from wallmart
  • Why would developers or business people want the X3? It is useless for developing Android or iOS apps and is missing apps many business people would want while traveling. Walmart only carries devices that have a chance of actually selling. This HP will flop just like every Windows phone before it. The Acer, which has similar specs, completely flopped. Nuans cannot even sell enough of their phone to meet a low kick starter requirement. Windows phones are well below 1% market share. This phone will most certainly be a flop. No one wants to buy an overpriced device that has such a lack of software available. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Why do you come here just to s*** on Windows Phone? You don't have anything better to do? It's been reported several times that this phone will only be sold directly by HP and probably in Microsoft Stores. When has Walmart ever sold unbranded, unlocked phones? And if you've been paying attention recently, you'd know that the app gap is rapidly closing. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Exactly all this talk is bs. What app gap? Every app a bussiness man needs is there. All apps are there for w10 dev and developers for .net & c# .
  • Why would you develop for Windows 10 on a phone? A real developer is going to want at least a laptop with some real power. There most certainly is an app gap. I am not sure where you have been, but the app gap is really an issue when you are trying to get work done. Windows mobile is finished. Start cheerleading Microsoft towards a product with an actual chance of success.
  • Mate testing device microsoft is actually developing w10 mobile at a hard rate..
  • They are developing it but that doesn't mean anyone is going to use it. Actually, it is quite obvious no one wants it. Have you seen the NuAns Neo Kickstarter! They have barely sold 400 phones and that is at a big discount and in market that has no mid range Windows phones available. Windows Mobile is dead. Microsoft is just killing time before they finally pull the plug. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • 400 phones? Thats brilant for a non branded chinese company! Who in the world would buy that lol!
  • It is a Kickstarter and they are no where near their goal. It looks like they were expecting at least 2,000 which is a quite low number when you think about it. Certainly isn't enough for a Samsung or LG to pay any attention to the platform. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • The case in the picture looks nice, but that's a pretty pricey phone. I'll stick with my 950, and wait to see what the alternatives end up being (read: Surface Phone).
  • Hi, I think it will be released sooner.. Already listed at hp.nl https://www.windowscentral.com/e?link=https2F2Fcrea... not available yet... Bit normally when they arr listed like this the release is soon....
