Xbox One NXOE update now rolling out worldwide

The New Xbox One Experience update is now rolling out to Microsoft's latest console, clocking in at 1.1GB. If you've selected the Instant-on option on your console, the update will download automatically in the background. Else, you'll have to manually head into Settings – System – Update Console to initiate the download.

If you're not willing to install the update right away, Microsoft has mentioned that it will roll out the new interface as a mandatory update on November 23. The update brings a new UI that's twice as fast, along with a laundry list of features and improvements, most notably backwards compatibility.

As a reminder, Xbox 360 backwards compatibility will go live at 12:01PM PT, 3PM ET, 8PM GMT, or 1:30AM IST on Friday.

  • I don't see my 360 games on the ready to DL section...
  • Because that happens in another 10 hours or so. I'm not sure how I feel about the new layout, snapping things is a little slower, but other than that I haven't noticed any changes, although given that I don't use Kinect gestures I wouldn't notice the biggest change.
  • Well other then the completely different layout and all
  • I do hope they improve the snapping, you should be able to do it from the main screen like before...
  • You can do it anywhere. Click home button look to bottom of the pop out guide. From home left thumb stick click left - right trigger - left thumb stick down - see list.
  • Because thats way faster than the old UI, right...  And whos fucking stupid idea was it to stick all the pins as far down the UI as possible.  Yes I know you can just LT but its still fucking stupid!
  • YAY !!
  • I'm already using it
  • Ditto.
  • Been using it for a month or so. I signed up for the beta
  • Do those of us that were on the preview get an update too? Or was the last preview build the one that's gone live today? If we get a new one, are there any other improvements other than the BC update coming later?
  • These are all good questions that I have no answers to, but would like to know myself! ;)
  • 10.0.10586.1006 was the build that was pushed overnight. preview people got it a couple days ago
  • Who knows. I just play dont care about build numbers lol
  • If its anything like last year it wont be anything special until jan./feb. jist security updates
  • I'm on the preview experience. There was a minor update this week but had the big one a while ago..
  • There will be more.
  • They finished this in the shortest time. Wonder how is the performance really
  • Been part of it since the preview program. You're going to have to re-learn a few things, but it's speedier than before. At least I do recommend nuking your X1 and go from there since it helps, as long as you have an external drive. You don't have to reinstall your games. If you're connected to Live, don't worry about your saves as they're up in the cloud and on your system; even though I'm sure you knew that.
  • No, there's no need to factory reset your console. Why would you do that?!
  • If the UI is the same, what is new???
  • It's not the same ui
  • It mentions that the new UI in on 28tg
  • No it says the update becomes mandatory on the 23rd
  • Lol where have you been since e3??
  • Already downloaded
  • Downloading pretty slowly, but getting it.
  • i got 8% in less of a minute :)
  • Well on Tuesday they did publish an update to fix just that for windows client os
  • thanks for the GMT/UTC time, makes it a lot easier to digest the information.
  • You can always ask Cortana if you are in doubt in the future...
  • no, I can't, Cortana is not available here nor in most countries.
  • Ask Bing by the good old method of typing it in.
  • Bing don't do that on Brazil...
  • There..
  • Im sure if you bing it another website will be displayed. Or google it..
  • I miss the Kinect gestures. It's hard to let go of raising my hand up and switching menus. Oh well, can't please everyone I guess. Plus this ui is 10x better than the previous, so it's a good tradeoff.
  • It was used very little, so they dropped it to free up resources. If you want it back, you could put it on the Xbox Uservoice site. If enough people want it back, it might just return.
  • Do the Kinect voice gestures still work and using Kinect as a microphone in games? Can I still say Xbox go to "Netflix" or. "Call of Duty"?
  • Of course. They've improved them.
  • Well, it depends... Still have to say games title with an awful French accent for Kinect to understand what we mean, or it simply won't work when using "real" english. This is ridiculous... Need for speed becomes "ned for sped", for instance. :-P
  • Maybe its ur accent never had Kinect problems every blue moon but it oicks up channels apps and games if I'm close to saying it - English
  • Lol. Sometimes I clear my voice say it 2 times or more to make it listen to me. ugg us Canadians lol.
  •   Seems faster
  • It IS faster.
  • Seconded!
  • That's awesome what's happening with windows 10 mobile wasn't it meant to release today or perhaps not ?
  • That was the rumor. Guess we'll see.
  • If you ever hear a release date from any US based companies, then expect thhem according to their time-zone. It's around 3-4am now in California
  • Even when it releases it's not going to come to all devices right away - Especially if you are on 8.1 and the carrier is still approving updates. People who want to be guaranteed to get it should get the Insider Preview when the next build drops. The current one is great, I think the next should be even better. If you really want to wait for the "RTM" build and want it soon as possible, just go to the insider preview when it's confirmed it's the launch build
  • It's different with unlocked/CV phones. You get it a lot before than carriers roll it out.
  • just updated and wow this is amazing how do you set the one guide to change your tv channels without using your television remote on your cable box this is the one thing I haven't been able to figure out since the old update
  • You go to settings>tv&oneguide>device control
  • It never works tho. There's a tv tuner setting is there a additional part I need to buy or something?
  • What, only 1.1 GB? During the Preview I almost had a 3.5 GB update every day. So I guess it has to be more for "normal" users.
  • That's because you got a lot of bug fixes as the early stages were pretty broken.
  • All my updates in preview were in the range of 300-400MBs. You must have missed a couple of those which then piled up and the size went up too.
  • Never see any. My system is set to automatic. I dont want to see updates.
  • I'm not in front of my Xbox to check this out, but is this supposed to be that win10 on Xbox update, or something different?
  • Yes. This is Windows 10.
  • Sorry, You are right, I was too impatient about it ;-)
  • Where is the start but on lol ;)
  • OS Version 10.0.10586.1006 Threshold2 :)
  • Thanks Microsoft for the support ^^
  • Does this update bring DTS-HD support???
  • No, I wish
  • They need to make so developers can go between the two codices and have the X1 auto-configure for each codec!
  • Is it recommended we factory reset after the upgrade?
  • Shouldn't need to.
  • I didn't during the preview, and the last preview build felt pretty solid - No complaints from me that weren't fixed in the various preview builds. Except sometimes the headset settings were missing unless I went into the full settings interface (Not a big deal)
  • You don't have to, but I do it just to be clean and clear.
  • Lol all day one owners run the risk of problems had the retail bug for 6 months before it was identified as such probably burned thru probably a tb in bandwidth re-downloading everything over the course of that period good to know I have unlimited(cant say my isp still doesn't throttle after you hit what your cap would've been)
  • Heard a lot about this looking forward to the update, is it faster?
  • Yes it is..
  • Thank you for the GMT time. Much appreciated.
  • Some news about the Fall update for Windows 10 (desktop) availability ?
  • Not on a post about Xbox One
  • It'll probably hit in the after noon EDT that's how they have been happening
  • Meh. It seems harder to use, imho. And, although I rarely used them, I'm not happy that gestures are gone. I think before to change from watching tv to playing the game I was playing last, I just did the white button and went down. Now I have to go down a few times and hope my eyes don't get lost in the rows and rows of stuff. I guess my reaction is that it is different, but I can't say anything is particularly easier. Hopefully the windows 10 will eventually bring us something while. Will take some getting used to.
  • Thanks for that nice birthday present, Microsoft. Gonna check it out when I get off work today.
  • Happy birthday! :)
  • Kinect gestures are gone? Well, that sucks. Still, nothing is better than hot and fresh Microsoft bits.
  • Performance increase. That part was eating up resorces and barely worked right.
  • Crap. When did they take away my remote control on the phone? My smartglass used to let me control my cable box. Now that is gone and the phone doesn't seem to recognize or work with the Xbox either.
  • Ah, I think the phone is just not able to find the Xbox at all. Even after uninstall and reinstall.
  • Windows 10 PC smartglass app works. Lovely, so they put out an Xbox update that breaks their phone app.
  • The new app replaces the old. The old app is for win 8.. The xbox is now win 10. Yes it won't work so use the new app.
  • This^^ use the new app. Really shouldn't complain without knowing all of the details. Just saying.
  • Isn't the Xbox app only on Windows 10? You know, the OS that hasn't been released for phones yet.
  • Found its buggy, like the interface but I've froze it twice already. I was able to hold the Xbox button and go back to home screen though.
  • Try Try @xboxsupport on twitter
  • You can also try factory default reset. If you're worried about your saves, they're also in the cloud, so long as you don't hit "delete everywhere".
  • Someone gift me a Xbox One.
  • Save I did 86 for 6 months had it on day one. You had 2 years now that's 500/24 = 20 a month. And the price dropped.
  • So wait, just a couple hours earlier you said backwards compatibility would launch 12 hours later, or Thursday afternoon. Now you're saying Friday afternoon? Which is the typo?
  • Read again...
  • Xbox 360 backwards compatibility will go live at 12:01PM PT, 3PM ET, 8PM GMT, or 1:30AM IST on Friday.
"Friday" is probably only referring to 1:30AM IST.
  • RT jumps directly to Games & Apps and your Pins. LT jumps right back to the top.
  • Yes yes it does
  • My audio settings are back to "stereo" can't change is to 5.1
  • Try @xboxsupport on twitter..
  • I had that problem happen about a year ago. I unplugged everything (including power). When it started back up, 5.1 was restored.
  • Got it, looks Nice.
  • Been with it all the way through preview, and I'm impressed how fast and easy it is over the old UI. It's also a hell of a lot more elegant =)
  • This is true
  • No sample background images to choose from...? Transparency and backgroud off by default...?
Microsoft will never change....Best products, worst way to present them :S
  • Set your own images
  • Anyone is able to stream to Windows 10 after the update? My ASUS notebook isn't seeing the Xbox One at all, I insert the IP and the same fucking error appears.   I restored my router to default settings, changed SSIDs for the 2Ghz and 5Ghz, the notebook and One are in the same 2Ghz network and even so they don't connect! Same thing happens with wired connection for both console and notebook. Just tried Smartglass for the X1 on my 730 and it can't connect as well, this is fucking stupid!   PS: I haven't used preview dash for One and Xbox App for Windows is up to date.
  • Try @xboxsupport on twitter
  • Yes you have to use the new Xbox app.
  • I'm using it on Windows 10, it was updated yesterday.
  • Or just use your phone.
  • I'm using Smartglass on the phone with WP8.1 and the Windows 10 version as well. Gonna try again when I get home tonight.
  • Nice
  • I'm having a great deal of trouble with TV-related voice controls now. Saying "Xbox Show Guide" now brings up the general Xbox sidebar instead of the TV listings. "Xbox Watch TV" also seems to no longer work - it instead always registers as "Watch TBS". I tried manually pulling up the TV listings for things like All Channels, Favorites, etc. and trying various voice commands to see if I could access them remotely but nothing works. Did they just completely phase out accessing the listings menus with this update? Is there am updated list of commands available somewhere? I can only seem to find the old one still.
  • Watch is a chanel command.. Go to is an app command. Go to tv. Used it since day one of year one.
  • Yea before complaing u might need to reed your commands because the wrong command will never work
  • This^
  • Cool
  • Media player isn't working since the update.
  • Report it to @xboxsupport on twitter.
  • Mine auto updated last night but it forgot our network password. Was too busy getting ready for work to find and enter our long, complex password. A little annoying but looking forward to checking it out later.
  • That's topical when you upgrade any pc or phone.
  • I was going to write that as well!!!! Gotta love Windows Central and their international reporting even if it is just the time and people saying just do this or just do that, luckily we don't have to, it's all about making life a bit easier and quicker so they cut out the middle man!!!!
  • This here is so true^
  • I love automatic updates. Just sit back and relax.
  • I have to say that I've already forgotten the old layout.  Obviously, reminded me of Windows 8.  This new layout seems to take up more screen real estate and I like that. The over all flow and layout work quite well and I'm just not sure anything will be a problem. I can see how missing gesture controls would be a bother, particularly because of how the device was initially marketed.  Still, once Cortana comes I think it will be a non-issue as far as movement/actions are concerned.  Two thumbs up in my case!
  • I'm in the preview program I thought I'd get the final version of the NXOE fast. Oh well. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • What the hell were MS thinking.  It might well be faster, but everything is just spread everwhere and its NOT at all user friendly. The thousands on the preview program must have had their heads jammed so far up their asses to think this is any sort of improvement.  And it now seems impossible to change the default intall location (internal vs external drive).  I keep getting the fucking "delete stuff to make space" message even though I've got 1.7Tb free. What a stupid step backwards. This is the Windows 8 of xbox.
  • How I get connect miracast in xo?
