New this week for Xbox One: Battlefield 1, Batman: Return to Arkham

Another week has begun, and with that, a new wave of Xbox One releases is on the horizon. This week's lineup is led by the worldwide release of Battlefield 1, which takes the established shooter back to the years of The Great War. Batman: Return to Arkham is also set to release this Tuesday, bringing both Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City to the current generation of consoles. Other notable titles include the Rock Band Rivals Expansion Pack and Mordheim: City of the Damned.

Our top picks this week:

Battlefield 1

Kicking off this week, Electronic Arts is set to debut the latest entry to its flagship shooter franchise, Battlefield 1. In a new direction for the franchise, Battlefield 1 returns to the events of the First World War, filled with the horrors and triumphs associated with it.

Following a range of crews who partook in different battles, the game's campaign digs further into various soldiers who fought both on the ground and in the air. Unlike a number of recent entries to the series, Battlefield 1 diverges from a linear campaign to provide expansive sandboxes reminiscent of the game's multiplayer modes. Battlefield's iconic multiplayer also makes a return, delivering vast warfare across a range of locations. During combat, you can also expect to encounter a range of weapons and vehicles suited for the time, which add a refreshing tone to combat.

Battlefield 1 officially releases this Friday, however, those who have purchased the Early Enlister Digital Deluxe Edition will gain early access on Tuesday, October 18.

  • Battlefield 1, of course. Played through the ten hour trial. I have my early enlister ultimate edition ready to go at 12:01am tonight.
  • Bought battlefield, but damn there are things that drive me potty.
  • Like?
  • With the trial, and I realise this will not affect me from tomorrow, the timer screen keeps popping up reminding me I have "x" hours left. Pops up every 5 mins, even in multiplayer. The fact that I cannot setup classes, unless in a game. Perhaps I am missing something, but I can not find any way of doing it. The scoreboard/ squad score and also personal stats sometimes disagree and don't match. Some of the weapons are new, be nice to be able to examine them before a match and get more help with useage. All this said, I love the game, and it will be my staple for well into the new year. Still not tried the pigeon game mode.
