  • The latest trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare introduces the Shadow Company.
  • The faction was original featured in Modern Warfare 2, but is coming back to both multiplayer and Warzone.
  • Modern Warfare's Season Five will launch on August 5.

The first trailer for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Season Five was released earlier today, introducing a handful of new operators that belong to a brand new faction entering the game. In the trailer, players are introduced to the Shadow Company, a faction that is new to Modern Warfare and Warzone, but has been in the Call of Duty universe since Modern Warfare 2.

According to a blog post on Call of Duty's website, Shadow Company is headed to Verdansk - the map for Modern Warfare's Warzone game mode - in order to take on the mysterious Mr. Z, a figure who has been slowly revealing himself through in-game teases.

"As Season Five approaches, events have transpired and led to the formation of a new group aligned in name only with the Allegiance faction – Shadow Company," Infinity Ward said in a post regarding the latest trailer. "Initially formed to fight back against a new AQ and their benefactor Mr. Z, the Armistice was a temporary alliance that has crumbled. New Operators dropping into Verdansk have joined the fray to protect their own, as the request has been made to only 'send Operators one can trust.' And for good reason, the distrust has led to infighting, and hostile forces run unchecked in Verdansk. As the rules of the original Armistice agreement have utterly failed, Shadow Company arrives without pretense – they operate on their own terms."

Season Five of Modern Warfare is currently set to launch on August 5, and when it does, players will be able to unlock three new Operators: Lerch, Velikan, and Rozlin 'Roze' Helms. These three will join tons of other items in the new Season Five Battle Pass, which operates similarly to Battle Passes found in games like Fortnite or Apex Legends.

With just a handful of days left until the launch of Season Five, expect some more information to release, including a full roadmap as to what will players will be able to unlock.
