Call of Duty is gifting everyone the recent Black Ops 7 event rewards after leaderboard bugs — even if you didn't play it

Season 02 in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 landed with a new in-game event right out of the gate. This time around it was a Zombies-focused event, with leaderboards based on the new Mars Survival map.

But it was plagued by a bug with the leaderboard not tracking properly for many. Since the rewards were linked to your place on said leaderboard, it's pretty frustrating for those affected.

To make amends, Treyarch has announced that the event is effectively null and void, and everyone will be getting the event's rewards. At least, the rewards that aren't Gobblegums.

This includes the Mars animated Weapon Camo, which I'm happy about. Because I didn't start the event until the final day and couldn't get to a high enough round to earn it. Score one for being lazy, I guess.

To claim the rewards, though, you need to log in to Black Ops 7 before the start of Season 02 Reloaded. Which gives you at least a couple of weeks, I'd say. The release date hasn't yet been confirmed, but it's usually mid-season. Doing quick math based on the time left on the current battle pass puts it sometime in early to mid-March.

It's actually a shame that this leaderboard event suffered technical woes, because I think it's probably the best one we've had yet. I've been critical of the way leaderboard events have gone so far, with the Fallout-related one being nothing more than brain rot, rewarding only those who had the time to use the best cheese.

But this one (and I admit, I misread the instructions) rewarded high rounds in Zombies, something that isn't as straightforward as it sounds. Especially not on the new Mars Survival map with its overabundance of Uber Klaus Elites ruining the good time.

But it was a leaderboard event that rewarded some kind of skill at the game. I don't play Zombies nearly enough, and I struggled, but at the end, I felt like I'd actually earned my spot. I worked for it, I tried a few things, and ultimately got as far as my (lack of) skill could take me.

So, credit to Treyarch for making it right by the players who missed out because of the bug, and for giving those of us who didn't make the cut the goodies anyway. If leaderboard events are here to stay, more like this one, please. But without the bugs.
