Test your trivia smarts with the AdDuplex HERO App Max Quiz

Max Quiz is a challenging trivia game available for both Windows 10 PC and Mobile that has a strong game show influence. The game challenges you with five categories of questions, three gaming modes, online ranking and more.

Max Quiz comes in as today's HERO App, which is a promotional campaign for Windows Phone and Windows developers on the AdDuplex Network. The program has changed slightly from last year and partners AdDuplex with AppDeals, TechRewards{.nofollow} and Windows Central to deliver a host of benefits to the top apps and games each month. Our role in the HERO App campaign is to offer a little exposure to these titles by sharing them with you, our readers.

Your first order of business when you launch Max Quiz is to create a user profile. This is necessary to compete online, only takes a few minutes to set-up and free. Once your profile is created, you can choose between five categories of trivia questions to tackle. These categories include:

  • Movies and TV
  • Sports
  • Geek Fun
  • General Knowledge
  • Science

After you choose your trivia category, the game will transition to a gaming menu with options to play the game, view your rankings, create/join a gaming team, customize your gaming avatar and customize your player profile. Customizations include physical appearance (hair color, eyes, nose, etc.) and clothing options that progressively become available as you advance in gaming experience.

When you are ready to jump into gameplay, Max Quiz has three gaming modes that include:

  • Practice: Test your knowledge without the pressure of competition
  • Championship: Randomly find an opponent to take on
  • Challenges: Challenge your friends to a trivia match

Practice games include nine questions with Championship and Challenges being the best-of-three games. Gameplay is regulated by tokens and Max Quiz provides you with four tokens that are replenished over time (four minutes per token). Quiz matches are best out of three, so it will not take you long to burn through the four tokens.

There is the option to watch a video ad to replenish one token or play unlimited matches through an in-app purchase. Thirty days of unlimited play will cost you $0.99 and a year of unlimited play will cost $9.99.

Gameplay is delivered in game show style with players positioned on a stage with a host reading the questions. Questions are multiple choice and any picture clues will appear on a large screen placed behind the stage. You do have a timer for each question and a hint button that can be used once a game to eliminate up to three of the choices.

I did not have any delays in finding an opponent for the Championship games and should you experience such a delay, you can always opt to play against the computer. Game questions offer a nice range of difficulties. You may get a General Knowledge question asking, "What legislative Act did Congress (U.S.) enact in 1913?" or a Sports question asking, "Which Briton became the 800 meters champion at the 1980 Olympics?"

Max Quiz

While I'm not a fan of the token system for gameplay, Max Quiz has fine-tuned things to make it bearable. The current four-minute wait is a walk in the park compared to the original replenish rate of an hour. Questions are challenging, graphics are a little too cartoonish and the three gaming modes give the game a little flexibility to meet your trivia gaming needs. My only nit is that I would have liked to have seen the head-to-head Championship games to have been a best-of-seven layout to allow the games to play out a little longer. It doesn't take long to run through a best-of-three game.

Overall, Max Quiz is an entertaining trivia game and a quality addition to the AdDuplex HERO App lineup.
