The Acer Predator Helios 300 gaming laptop and Acer Windows Mixed Reality headset are bundled together for $999.99 on Amazon. This is part of Amazon's Gold Box deals of the day featuring tons of monitors, routers, and other devices. The Predator Helios 300 laptop sells for around $1,050 by itself, and the Mixed Reality headset with two controllers sells for around $380 or higher at most retailers. That's a savings of $430 versus buying individually.

If that's still too much, you can get the Acer Nitro 5 bundled with the Windows Mixed Reality headset for $779.99 in this same deal. The Nitro 5 is not as good a system as the Helios 300, but you're obviously paying less here. You're essentially getting the headset for free since the Nitro 5 sells for around $750 most of the time anyway.

The Helios 300 is one of the budget models of the Acer Predator line, which scale up to $9,000 for some models. It's a gaming laptop with a powerful GTX 1060 video card. It has gotten pretty good reviews, including recommendations from Digital Trends and Laptop Magazine.

The Windows Mixed Reality Headset is a brand new system that was just released in late October. It's part of Microsoft's push to get into the virtual reality game. Unfortunately, it's so new it's hard to judge because there's little content for it. Even CNET, which would give stars to a universe already filled with them, has said they're waiting for more content to come out to give a full rating.

That being said, the hardware can be judged and most of it has been found to be very pleasing. It's a smaller and lighter system than its contemporaries like the HTC Vive. It's designed to work with a variety of systems, including budget laptops like the ones its bundled with here. It's comfortable, has good tracking, and plenty of features. VR Heads has the ultimate guide to Windows Mixed Reality.
