Twitter to lay off up to 336 team members, or 8 percent of its work force

Twitter will be laying off a number of its workers as part of an overall restructuring of the social networking company. In a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, it said that it plans to lay off up to 336 team members, or about 8 percent of its total work force.
Twitter stated:
The restructuring is part of an overall plan to organize around the Company's top product priorities and drive efficiencies throughout the Company. The Company intends to reinvest savings in its most important priorities to drive growth.
Twitter says it expects the total amount of its restructuring expenses will be between $5 million to $15 million. The decision comes just eight days after the company named its co-founder Jack Dorsey to be its new CEO.

How is it not? They have Windows apps, for phone and in the store.
-
You can access twitter on a Windows based PC, therefore this is windows news. Boom.
-
It doesn't make the news exclusively related to the windows system.
-
All news is windows news if the news is on windows...

This one is out of the Doors, so can't be on Windows-;).

Must've reached their employment token limit.

You win.

Indeed.

Always wondered how you can employ around 4000 people for these kinds of businness. I mean: 100 developers for website 200 developers for all the apps 100 for servers architecture and maintenance 100 managers 500 bureaucrats 1000 marketing around the world And I already gave crazy high numbers and we are at 2000...
-
You missed Support department (usually the biggest dept in a company like this) In development: QA testers, documenters, defect analysts, api programmers Accounting SALES Internal support and IT Hosting/data center employees And soooo much more EDIT: oh and can't forget HR, benefits and recruitment Posted via the Windows Central App for Android

Makes sense now

Support department (usually the biggest dept in a company like this) -->Ok let's add 500? In development: QA testers, documenters, defect analysts, api programmers -->included in developers team!! Accounting -->included in bureaucrats (thus the 500) SALES-->bureaucrats and marketing (thus the 1500) Internal support and IT -->let's add 50 Hosting/data center employees -->included in servers architecture and maintenance We are at 2550 of 4200 :) And I'm giving super high numbers, you do not need all those R&D employees (300) for 1 site and 3 apps. Anyway I'm just playing with numbers but it's sad to see how easy for US companies is to employ a ton of people one day and then dismiss 10% of them even if the businness is going OK.
-
Oh but I could have kept going
Legal
HR
Vendor relations
Admin
Facilities
Corp communications
Account management
Project management
Keep going? And no, your buckets are not valid :) Posted via the Windows Central App for Android -
No don't, you are only being specific while I already counted all you are saying in one of my categories :)
-
4200 people run a company that big?
-
Those were Android and iOS developers and Twitter is now only focusing on Windows...
Just kidding before someone makes a sad joke about Windows devs getting fired :D -
It only needs one developer and one admin for comment monitoring
-

Die, evil social media, die!
If only the people would lay off Facebook, Twitter and all the rest. -
Why does Twitter need 4000 employes in the first place ?
-
Turns out they didn't
-
Lol, good one
-
Damn that's a lot of people for a company like that. The article should be "Twitter lays up to 336 peeps off" :P Sucks for those getting the axe but seriously, that many people at a company like that. Hmm...
-
Considering how lazy twitter has been with Windows phone app, fire them all
-
If there's a beautiful one amongst those being laid off, I wouldn't mind laying her on. Or isn't it what she would like me to say? /$.
