Infinity Ward and Activision have officially confirmed another preorder bonus for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Players who preorder the game digitally will receive early access to the upcoming first-person shooter's campaign starting on October 16.
Infinity Ward officially revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 ahead of the June 7 Xbox Games Showcase at the end of May and has been surprisingly forthcoming in what players can expect when it launches in full on October 23. The reveal trailer for Modern Warfare 4 has racked up an astounding 58 million views on YouTube in just two weeks, already surpassing the 49 million views of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 reveal trailer from nine months ago.
Since the initial reveal, Infinity Ward has released several devlogs detailing the studio's philosophy behind the new game, and a proper reveal of the upcoming third mode, DMZ, was part of the Xbox Games Showcase. There are still a lot of details left unknown about Modern Warfare 4's campaign, however. Players last left the characters of the Modern Warfare franchise grappling with the death of Soap MacTavish at the hands of series antagonist, Makarov, while a post-credits scene showed beloved character Captain Price take out General Shepherd in his office at the end of Sledgehammer Games' Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
Infinity Ward has shifted the focus of the campaign for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to Private Park, a young soldier enlisted in the South Korean military who is faced with live combat when North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of the South.
While the war between North and South Korea serves as the front lines of the campaign, players will see Captain Price return in a new light as he is fueled by the need for revenge of Soap's death. In the reveal trailer, players see a scene between fan-favorite Simon "Ghost" Riley and Captain Price where the two appear to be adversaries. Ghost claims Price has "broken a lot of rules", to which Price replies, "No more rules."
We also know from the reveal trailer that Captain Price has teamed up with former TF141 adversary Valeria "El Sin Nombre" Garza as he seeks a powerful weapon that could ultimately shift the balance of power.
Spoilers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 have become a hot topic as the developers at Infinity Ward have openly discussed the game's storyline in great detail as part of the reveal of the DMZ mode. With the campaign now serving as a preorder bonus, players who wait until launch or just after are at an even greater risk of spoilers from those who unlock access early by preordering.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is available to preorder now at participating retailers, in-game, on platform stores, or at CallofDuty.com. The game launches on October 23, with campaign early access for preorders kicking off on October 16, and will be available on XBOX Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via XBOX on PC, Steam, and Battle.net. It is the first Call of Duty title to not be available on last-gen consoles.
Despite being a first-party XBOX title, Modern Warfare 4 will not be available on XBOX Game Pass or PC Game Pass until October 23, 2027 as part of a recent move by XBOX to cut the price of the subscription service.
