'Metro 2039' confirmed for "Xbox First Look" show: New format will spotlight games throughout the year.

Metro returns with Metro 2039: with Xbox offering your first glimpse.

Xbox's production team has been on a big tear recently, and it started with the Developer_Direct in January. Since then, we've also had a smaller ID@Xbox show, another partner show, and now an all-new format called "Xbox First Look." And it all starts with Metro 2039.

I shared on X recently that Metro 2039 is about to break cover, and now it's here confirmed in full. Metro is a legendary first-person shooter franchise inspired by the popular book series of the same name. A global apocalypse has blighted the world in trans-dimensional entities, horrific nuclear mutants, radioactive storms, and warring human survivor factions. Metro 2033, Last Light, and Exodus are some of the best and most immersive shooters of their era, and well worth playing for any fans of the genre.

"This Thursday, April 16, we’ll be debuting Xbox First Look: Metro 2039 with 4A Games & Deep Silver – a digital-only broadcast offering a world-premiere look at the next title in the beloved post-apocalyptic first-person shooter series.

This will be the fourth mainline entry from 4A Games in the series based on the iconic novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky, following Metro 2033 (2010), Metro: Last Light (2013), and Metro Exodus (2019), all of which tell the stories of survivors of nuclear devastation living in the Moscow subway tunnels and the world that surrounds them.

Xbox has always been a home for the franchise, and we’re honored to continue that relationship by bringing you a first look at this next exciting chapter."

Xbox First Look: Metro 2039 will air on Thursday, April 16

Metro 2039 will be revealed in full at the first Xbox First Look show, on Thursday April 16, 10 AM PT, 6 PM in the UK. It'll broadcast as part of a YouTube Premier over on Xbox's YouTube channel here.

If you haven't played Metro 2033, Last Light, or Exodus, I can't recommend them enough. Last Light in particular is a high point of the series for me, which really pushed the boundaries for visual quality and immersive gameplay when it launched. The games are all available on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. I'm told Metro 2039 will also be Xbox Play Anywhere compatible too when it eventually launches.
