We will need extra space to store our important files, digital art projects, and video games more than ever, as many PCs and gaming consoles' default SSDs can't keep up with their high demand for install space.

This would be easier said than done, as many storage expansion units have become so expensive these days, as many of them can cost hundreds of dollars.

Fortunately, one of the more affordable 1TB SSDs with commendable performance rates, the Samsung T7 Portable SSD, is now on sale for $189.98 at Amazon (was $274.99) as part of its early Amazon Prime Day sales.

"The Samsung T7 portable SSD is every bit as good as the T7 Touch but at a lower price. It makes it a brilliant all-purpose portable SSD that can be used for both computers and the latest Xbox consoles." — Richard Devine, Managing Editor

Why buy the Samsung T7 Portable SSD?

The Samsung T7 Portable SSD comes in 512GB, 1TB, 2TB, 2.1TB, and 4TB sizes. However, the one that's on sale right now for $189.98 at Amazon is the 1TB version, which is still a very good amount of install space for hundreds of productivity documents, personal files, photos, videos, and video games.

It also features 1,050MB/s transfer speeds, so you can move files between the SSD and whatever PC or console it's hooked up to quickly. Granted, it's not the best SSD in the world for running modern AAA games directly, but it's still plenty capable of running older games and light indie titles with little to no issue.

Other notable features of the Samsung T7 Portable SSD include a fingerprint scanner for extra security, an extremely lightweight design at 58g, with a thin, sleek chassis that is so portable-friendly, you could fit it into your coat or a bag pocket.

So, if you're looking for a convenient and affordable way to add space to your desktop/console or take your precious work documents/video games with you on trips, we highly recommend adding the Samsung T7 Portable SSD to your tech collection.

FAQ

Can you play games stored directly inside it?

Yes, you can. The Samsung T7 Portable SSD will allow you to play games stored on it via PC and Xbox consoles. However, you can't play Xbox Series X|S optimized games on it, just Xbox One and older generation Xbox games.

For Xbox Series X|S games, you will need a Seagate Expansion Card (or equivalent) to store and play games directly from.

What ports are best recommended for this SSD?

To get the best performance from the Samsung T7 Portable SSD, it needs to be connected to a computer, console, or laptop with at least a USB 3.2 port.

If you connect it to an older-style port, the Samsung T7 Portable SSD's read and write speeds will suffer.

What games are compatible with it?

The Samsung T7 Portable SSD is compatible with PC, macOS, Xbox, PlayStation, and mobile games.
