What you need to know

Minecraft Dungeons is a dungeon crawler experience along the lines of Diablo. However, the original concept was much different and was similar to Zelda. GameSpot reported on an interview given by Mojang's Måns Olson to USG. The outlet said the following.

The game was originally being developed with the 3DS in mind, and now in a new interview, the game's director has revealed that an entirely different gameplay style was initially planned... Olson has revealed that the game was originally envisioned as a Zelda-style game.

Olson told USG the following.

We wanted to bring a new Minecraft experience to players. To make something new, you have to step quite far away from the base game... If you look at inspirations now, it's closer in terms of gameplay to games like Diablo, Torchlight, and Gauntlet. So absolutely there's been things that have been either implemented and then changed, or designed on paper, but that never made it into the game.

It's definitely interesting as to how it morphed into a Diablo-style game, but it's better for it in my opinion. We can't wait to play it later on this month!
