Movie Tonight is a Windows Phone app designed to offer up movie recommendations based on your likes and dislikes. If that doesn't work, you can always search the movie database by category. It could be a very helpful Windows Phone for movie night or any other time you are in the mood for a movie. Movie Tonight is also today's AdDuplex HERO App.
Keep in mind, the HERO Apps program is a promotional campaign for Windows Phone and Windows developers on the AdDuplex network and partners AdDuplex with myAppFree, AppDeals, PluralSight and Windows Central to deliver a host of benefits to the top apps and games each month. Our role in the HERO App campaign is to offer a little exposure to these titles by sharing them with you, our readers.
The main page for Movie Tonight includes a page for recommendations and one to browse the movie categories. The recommendations will be based on your responses to a series of questions. Just tap the "recommendations" banner to start the Q&A session that will be used to base the app's suggestions on.
For example, some of the questions deal with your genre preferences while others deal with how recent the movie was released. "Should the movie be made before or after 1997?" or "Would you like to see a Drama movie?"
Categories for movies include your genre breakdown and:
- In Theatres
- Upcoming Titles
- Top Rated Movies
You also have a search engine to hunt down a movie by keyword or title.
Movie listings include pages covering the details of the movie, an overview of the storyline, a cast listing, any reviews for the movie and any factoids on the title. If a video trailer is available for the movie, it will be available on the details page. You also have the ability to drill down and view biographical information on cast members, tag a movie as a favorite, add it to your watchlist and view any similar titles.
While I would have liked to have seen local movie theatre information on current run titles, Movie Tonight is a nice movie finder for your Windows Phone. The app taps into The Movie Database for its information and covers thousands of titles. I did experience an occasional lag time when loading movie titles but nothing to the level of being critical. Movie Tonight is a free, ad-supported Windows Phone app. You can remove the ads through a $.99 in-app purchase.
If you take Movie Tonight out for a spin, let us know what you think of the app in the comments below. Also, remember to rate the app in the Windows Phone Store. It is an easy way to send feedback to the developer on their work.
