Best Xbox One X 4K Games Windows Central 2019

The incredibly powerful Xbox One X is capable of pushing visuals up to 4K on a compatible UHD TV set. While not all games run at native 4K all the time due to dynamic resolution scaling, these titles nonetheless look incredible on the Xbox One X, beating out competing consoles and all but some of the most expensive gaming PCs.

★ Editor's pick: Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is an absolutely stunning title at every technical level, and it looks best on the Xbox One X. Red Dead Redemption 2 is set in a gargantuan Wild West open world that's brimming with detail, environmental ambiance, and staggering visuals. Red Dead Redemption 2 truly showcases the prowess of the X.

4K biohazard: Resident Evil 2

Arguably the best horror game of this generation, Resident Evil 2 is a remake of the classic PS1 title of the same name. Set in Raccoon City, rookie cop Leon Kennedy and unlucky traveller Claire Redfield become embroiled in a zombie outbreak like no other. This is a must-play game.

Britain in 4K: Forza Horizon 4

Forza Horizon 4 is a graphical showcase on Xbox One X, sporting stunning native 4K visuals based on British landscapes. Forza Horizon 4 is multiplayer open world racer, allowing users to take part in dynamic events across a vast playground. Few games showcase the Xbox One X power better than this.

4K gorefest: Gears of War 4

Gears of War is a grindhouse, and was one of the first games to hit the Xbox One X in 4K. The violent co-op shooter series has long been known for its stunning visuals, and thanks to the Xbox One X, you can experience the full force of its meticulous gory details, complete with Dolby Atmos surround support.

4K RPG: The Witcher 3

Arguably the greatest RPG of the generation, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a graphical marvel despite its age. Few games can match the Witcher 3 for environmental detail, and its moody forests truly come to life in 4K on the Xbox One X. This game is unmissable.

WW2 in 4K: Battlefield V

Battlefield V is arguably the best WW2 shooter of the generation, and it looks utterly stunning in 4K on the Xbox One X. Staple WW2 theatres of conflict, with highly destructible environments, 60 frames per second, and staggering details make Battlefield V an immersive shooter well worth your time.

Ancient Egypt in 4K: Assassin's Creed Origins

Assassin's Creed Origins (and the more recent Assassin's Creed Odyssey) are graphical powerhouses that really showcase the hardware chops of the Xbox One X. Both games are absolutely packed with meticulous environmental detail, with huge sprawling landscapes, dynamic lighting, and weather effects. Few games achieve more in the graphics department right now.

4K horror: The Evil Within 2

Although it doesn't quite hit full 4K, The Evil Within 2 is a pure horror game with some truly grotesque art that enjoys all-new dimensions with its Xbox One X enhancements. Set in a nightmarish landscape where almost anything can happen, The Evil Within 2 is a terrifying journey.

Once you go 4K, it's hard to go back

While you do need a 4K TV to get the most out of the Xbox One X, many games enjoy superior frame rates and draw distances even on a 1080p set, making the Xbox One X difficult to walk away from once you've upgraded. If I had to recommend just a couple of games, Red Dead Redemption 2 truly represents the bleeding edge of 3D story-telling, and exemplifies the technical achievement found within the X.

Battlefield V, and even the older Star Wars Battlefront II also showcase how great the Frostbite engine can be on Xbox One X as well, while maintaining 60 frames per second.
