Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 'Gunsmithing' lets you modify your entire weapon

What you need to know

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a soft reboot of the popular sub-franchise.
  • The game features cross-play between consoles and PC.
  • The complete multiplayer reveal is scheduled for early August.
  • You can preorder the game for $60 on Amazon.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is an upcoming first-person shooter from Activision's Infinity Ward team. The studio developed the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, so it has the necessary experience to shine a modern light on the franchise. Unlike 2018's Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare features a single-player campaign as well as traditional multiplayer modes.

Weapon customization plays an important role in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. "Gunsmithing" allows you to modify a few features of your weapons so that you can find what works. According to the publisher, Gunsmithing is a robust weapon customization option for your two main loadout weapons.

Each primary and secondary weapon can be augmented to give you the precise type of firepower you require for any multiplayer mode. You can customize up to five parts of each weapon until your available slots are filled. For example, with assault rifles, you usually have nine areas to augment: the muzzle, lasers, optics, stock, rear grip, magazine, underbarrel, barrel, or a perk.

It'll be interesting to see how multiplayer changes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. From what we saw on Twitch, the combat is a lot like Battlefield V and Rainbow Six Siege. However, only time will tell how it stacks up to the competition. August 1 is definitely going to be a defining moment for the Call of Duty series.
