Just a few days ago, a PS5 version of Larian Studios' Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition leaked, prompting speculation about just when it would arrive. As things turn out, the answer is right now, with Larian Studios launching a free upgrade for its iconic role-playing game (RPG) on Monday.
This upgrade allows players who already own Divinity: Original Sin 2 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or Nintendo Switch to upgrade to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, or Nintendo Switch 2 for free, respectively.
The turn-based RPG first launched for Windows PC in 2017, before being ported to consoles later on. Set in the world of Rivellon like other Divinity games, the story opens as the gods are gone, with new threats emerging. Players can go with a pre-built origin with one of six party members, or customize a unique character.
The biggest improvement this upgrade brings is 60 FPS gameplay, which makes the action and exploration far smoother on the latest consoles. I also noticed that the Xbox Series X version is significantly smaller than the backward-compatible Xbox One X version that was previously present, so you'll save a bit of space on your SSD with this upgrade, too.
This official announcement comes just days after Larian Studios revealed its next project at the Game Awards 2025, Divinity. This will be a new game in the Divinity setting, and while a lot isn't clear right now, the teaser trailer is extremely gruesome, with human sacrifices, an accompanying orgy, and pigs eating slop...and that's before things go wrong.
We don't have a release date or even a vague window to look forward to, but until then, it's a great time to play some of the older games in the series for players who came to know Larian Studios thanks to Baldur's Gate 3.
Larian Studios has noted you don't have to play Divinity: Original Sin 2 before the next Divinity game, but it will help, and the players who are familiar with the setting may notice more connections and hints than anyone who hops in fresh.
Divinity Original Sin 2 is currently on sale for $18 via Xbox, for $45 at GOG on Windows PC, for $60 at PlayStation, and for $25 on Nintendo Switch.
