Echo Generation 2, the long-awaited sequel to one of my favorite indie Xbox RPGs, has announced its release date with an insane new trailer

On April 23, 2026, Microsoft hosted a collection of new trailers for indie and AA Xbox titles during the ID@Xbox Showcase 2026 event.

Out of all the trailers shown, the one that caught my eye the most was the insane release date trailer for Echo Generation 2, the sequel to a charming, retro-style RPG I reviewed all the back in 2021.

Watch On

For those unaware, Echo Generation 2 is a turn-based Sci-Fi RPG with deckbuilder elements. In this game, you play as Jack, an ordinary guy struggling to find a way to return home after getting whisked away across the galaxy.

Along the way, you will gather a crew of intriguing party members with unique abilities, gather a deck of cards that can grant you powerful abilities in battle, and fight all kinds of horrifying alien adversaries that range from killer bugs to towering cosmic deities.

The game will also feature nostalgically retro yet detailed voxel art style and a heart-pounding, 1980s-inspired synth soundtrack.

Echo Generation 2 is expected to release on Xbox Series X|S and PC via Windows and Steam on May 27, 2026. It will release on Xbox Game Pass (Day One) and Xbox Cloud Gaming, with Xbox Game Play Anywhere support.

Windows Central's Take

Like I said earlier, I played the original Echo Generation back in 2021, and it holds a special place in my heart for being one of the first games I reviewed on this very site.

Echo Generation 1 was a very enjoyable game with endearing retro aesthetics, fun gameplay, an intriguing story with surprisingly dark twists and satisfyingly challenging boss fights.

From the looks of this trailer, it looks like Echo Generation 2 is going to be a thousand times crazier than its predecessor.

We've got alien gremlins, zombies, and psychics for party members, the combat systems look more dynamic and strategic with the new deckbuilding mechanics, and the horrific boss fights look like they're ripped straight from 1980s Sci-Fi horror flicks, and it all looks awesome.

I can't wait to play this Xbox RPG when it comes out on May 27, 2026, and see what kind of mind-boggling adventures it will take me on.
