I finally tracked down a UK Black Friday Xbox Series X deal — but the “discount” is so underwhelming it almost feels like a punchline
This is the best price for the Xbox Series X brand new in the UK right now. I can only apologise

It's been a sorry state of affairs for Xbox console deals so far in the run-up to Black Friday, but I've finally found one worth posting about in the UK.
It's a deal, in spirit at least.
The Xbox Series X 1TB White Digital console is currently down to £419.99 at Amazon and is being price-matched by multiple retailers. That is, genuinely, the cheapest this particular model has ever been in the UK. History has been made. A tiny, slightly underwhelming history, but history nonetheless.
Unfortunately, when you place it next to the PlayStation pricing happening right now, it does somewhat pale in significance (pun intended).
The Xbox Series X 1TB Digital Edition in White is one of the new models of Microsoft's flagship console, minus the disc drive. It boasts lower power consumption than its disc-based predecessor. But it will still deliver 4K gaming at 60Hz with compatible TVs and monitors.
Not the Xbox Series X deal we deserve, but it's the one we are gonna get
I hasten to say that this is only really a deal if you are already looking for an Xbox Series X and don't want to purchase second hand, and you are perhaps upgrading from an Xbox One X or Series S.
The reason I say that is because if you are completely new to console gaming or don't have an existing library on Xbox, the PlayStation console deals in the sales right now are ridiculously better value. For example:
- PlayStation PS5 Digital Edition 825GB £280 (was £429) at EE
- PlayStation 5 Ghost of Yotei Gold Limited Edition Console £428 (was £519.99) at EE
- PlayStation 5 Pro Console 2TB Digital Slim with EA Sports 26 £569.99 (was £727.98) at Smyths
This console generation has been a peculiar one, with consoles going up in price rather than depreciating, so we always knew the sales this year weren't going to light anyone on fire. That being said, PlayStation are still managing to offer some great deals through various retailers, and Microsoft are lagging behind.
But enough of my whining, what if you do actually really want an Xbox Series X 1TB? Well right now this is the best price in the UK, and it's being price matched at the following retailers:
- £419.99 at John Lewis (with 2 year guarantee as standard)
- £419.99 at Argos (free click and collect)
- £419.99 at Smyths (free click and collect)
"How about the Xbox Series S?" I hear you cry! Well if you’re genuinely considering paying near-PS5 money for the diet version of a next-gen console while Sony is practically lobbing full-fat PS5s at people for the same price, I would firmly suggest booking in with your GP to have that decision examined. But here with the intention of being somewhat helpful I can tell you that the cheapest place is Argos where it's £269.99. Don't say I didn't try and stop you.
