"Let us cook.": Xbox's Blade may be alive after all as Arkane puts cancellation rumors to bed
Blade skipped the Xbox Games Showcase, but Arkane's Lead Concept Artist suggests the project is still moving forward.
I must admit, it's hard not to be a tad worried about Xbox's and Arkane's upcoming game, Blade. The game was completely absent from the latest Xbox Games Showcase, and then rumors began spiraling online that the project was dead.
Thankfully, that doesn't appear to be the case. The game's Lead Concept Artist has finally broken the silence with a rather fun response to a concerned fan who posted, "tell me you're alive @ArkaneStudios please. It's important for my mental health."
In response, Jean-Luc Monnet, Blade's Lead Concept Artist, replied with a GIF of Walter White from Breaking Bad that simply reads, "Let us cook."
Blade was originally announced in December 2023 during The Game Awards and is being developed by Arkane Lyon, the studio behind Dishonored and Deathloop.
Fans are right to be a little skeptical, though. It's now been roughly two and a half years since the game was announced, and we've still yet to see or hear much about it.
Given the current changes at Xbox, another question remains: will Blade be exclusive or not? Xbox has recently shifted back toward the belief that exclusives matter after spending the past couple of years diluting its brand identity through a broader multiplatform strategy.
It would certainly be one way to show Xbox is serious. With Sony keeping Spider-Man, and now Wolverine, off Xbox, fighting fire with fire would make a strong statement.
Unfortunately, outside of this small confirmation that the game is still alive, we really don't know all that much about Blade. That said, it's highly likely the game will share some DNA with Dishonored and Deathloop, given those are the types of experiences Arkane is best known for.
Beyond that, reports have indicated the game entered full production in 2024, though exactly how far along development is remains unclear. For now, fans are still waiting to see actual gameplay and learn more about what Arkane's take on Marvel's vampire hunter will look like.
