Two years after the release of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, Deck Nine and Square Enix have revealed its sequel, Life is Strange: Reunion. The game is set to focus on Max and Chloe, the original protagonists of the series, first introduced in 2015 in an episodic adventure developed by Don't Nod Entertainment SA, with the consequences of Max’s actions in previous titles taking center stage.

Life is Strange: Reunion is available for preorder now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud, Steam, and PS5 with a planned release date of March 27. A preorder bonus includes the classic outfit pack for Max and Chloe.

Life is Strange is a third-person adventure series where Max Caulfield discovers she has the ability to photo jump and rewind time, giving the player the opportunity to explore multiple different outcomes to choices made throughout the game. The original series heavily focused on a friendship (or relationship, if the player chose to take that route) between strait-laced Max and her more eccentric counterpart, Chloe Price. The game ended with the player forced to choose between saving Chloe from death or sacrificing her to save the entire town of Arcadia Bay, where the two lived, from a devastating tornado.

For Life is Strange: Reunion, the consequences of Max’s rewind powers have come home to roost. With just one last chance to rewind time to save her friends and loved ones, Max’s history of merging timelines has led to a chaotic instance where her beloved Chloe returns — regardless of the choice to save or sacrifice her from the original game. The chaos has led to Chloe being filled with traumatic memories stemming from past choices, and the pair will need to overcome those consequences one final time.

Deck Nine utilizes Max’s original rewind ability for Life is Strange: Reunion, but players will also have the chance to step into Chloe’s shoes once more, and her classic “backtalk” gameplay from Life is Strange: Before the Storm will also return. These abilities will come in handy as players try to save Caledon University and Max’s friends and students. Max will have unprecedented control over her rewind abilities in Life is Strange: Reunion, but she will still be limited to how far back she can go. However, she will be able to carry items with her through time to solve puzzles.

Hannah Telle reprises her role as Max Caulfield, while Rhianna DeVries returns to voice Chloe. “I first played Chloe in Before the Storm, when she was just 16 years old,” says DeVries during the stream, “Getting to return to her now, older and more kick ass, has been a dream as an actor.” In addition to the returning voice cast, John Zimmerman has returned as a writer for Life is Strange for the first time since Before the Storm.

Life is Strange: Reunion launches on Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam on March 27. Preorders are available now.
