Developer Remedy Entertainment showed up to the Game Awards 2025 to reveal Control Resonant, sequel to the 2019 adventure title, Control.
Control Resonant follows up on the events of Alan Wake 2's DLC, starring Dylan Faden, the previously-imprisoned brother of Control protagonist and Federal Bureau of Control director, Jesse Faden.
With a new threat facing the Bureau, Dylan is unleashed, battling supernatural forces and his own damaged mind. Control Resonant is being developed and self-published by Remedy Entertainment with support from Annapurna Pictures.
"Control Resonant pushes our paranatural action RPG series into an expansive, reality-warping playground of choice, power, and consequence," says Mikael Kasurinen, creative director of Control Resonant.
Kasurinen has contributed to numerous games, including multiple prior Remedy titles, working as a designer on the original Alan Wake and as game director on Quantum Break.
“You don’t have to know the first game to jump into the sequel, we’ve made this one easy to pick up and hard to put down. We’re pushing the scale beyond anything we’ve done before, elevating combat, exploration, and storytelling into a bigger, more memorable experience. It’s ambitious, a little wild, and we can’t wait for players to get lost in it.”
While Alan Wake 2 was Remedy's first-ever true survival-horror game (and it was excellent, read my Alan Wake 2 review if you haven't) Control Resonant is the studio's first-ever action role-playing games, building on the foundation of the first Control with new gameplay options.
Players looking forward to playing through the next chapter of the Remedy Connected Universe will hopefully not be waiting too much longer, as Control Resonant is slated to launch at some point in 2026.
When it arrives, Control Resonant will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (Epic Games Store and Steam), PlayStation 5, and Mac.
If you haven't played the first game, Control Ultimate Edition is currently available on Xbox Game Pass via the Essential, Premium, and Ultimate tiers.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate brings access to EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and most importantly, day one Xbox first-party releases. The subscription recently shot up in price, but you can snag it at $20 a month again if you act fast.
