Microsoft-owned Compulsion Games shared that its 2025 southern gothic adventure, South of Midnight, is making the jump to both PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch 2 in the Spring of 2026.
The move makes South of Midnight the first Xbox Game Studios title to launch on the recently released Switch 2 console.
South of Midnight is an action-adventure game that presents players with a fictionalized version of the American Deep South and follows Hazel, a young woman who finds herself with an ancient power known as 'weaving'. Hazel must defeat the haints and cleanse the stigma that has taken over her home while encountering classic southern gothic folktale figures like Two-Toed Tom.
The game is the third title from Compulsion Games, who previously released We Happy Few and Contrast. It is the first from the studio following its acquisition from Microsoft in 2018. The game initially leaked under the title Project Midnight.

The announcements came unceremoniously via social media tweets from Compulsion Games just before the start of The Game Awards. It is likely that it was intended to be withheld until the annual game show's broadcast. Farah Brixi and Diane Gullemont of Compulsion Games shared the announcement during their speech following South of Midnight's victory in the Games for Impact category.
"From the start, we listened to stories passed down porch to porch, kitchen to kitchen to build a world that would feel as warm and as rich as the south. A world that would be filled with compassion, kindness, and courage. So we're incredibly excited to launch this spring South of Midnight on PlayStation 5 and Switch 2," said Guillemont.
South of Midnight received critical acclaim at launch, and Windows Central's own Samuel Tolbert adorned the title with a coveted Must Play badge. "I've enjoyed this yarn of a young Weaver aspiring to save her mother, and I truly hope we get to see more of Hazel in the future. South of Midnight is a love letter to Southern Gothic and the South, and it's one I hope people can come away from filled with more meaning," wrote Tolbert in Windows Central's South of Midnight review.
Xbox Game Pass subscribers can play South of Midnight now on Xbox or Xbox PC as part of the subscription service.
