Microsoft's Ringtone Maker app officially launches for Windows 10 Mobile

Microsoft has officially launched its Ringtone Maker app for Windows 10 Mobile after several months in beta. It allows users to create their own custom ringtones out of songs.

The app launched in beta form in January, and lets users edit any DRM-free song for their ringtone or for notification alerts. The beginning and end of the song can be altered, and the length can be cut down to as small as one second.

While many Windows 10 Mobile users are reporting that the new version is available in the store, some are still downloading the older beta version. It's likely that the new non-beta version is still rolling out and it may take a little while to get to everyone.

Download Ringtone Maker from the Windows Store (opens in new tab)

Thanks, Jona B., for the tip

  • I quote from our article:

    Thank you.

  • I meant to say its the link to the old nokia ringtone maker app. Not the new microsoft ringtone beta app or non beta app. Or I misunderstood the statement?
  • I nearly thought msft decided to go 'off with our apps' kinda strategy from the past couple of weeks...
  • You know what they say about making assumptions ...
  • Will windows central do an update on the post to let us know, once the the proper app is available in the store? From CoJo101

  • Nice, going to grab this
  • One problem, it loads my collection whenever I open the app
  • Hands on video :D
  • I see it says "DRM free", I guess that means that I can't use music from my groove music pass huh?
  • Upvoted for your "RIPZUNE" avatar.
  • I was able to download a song just now and use it to make a ringtone so it seems you can use Groove Pass music.

  • Then how do i solve this ?
  • I was forced to use Ringtone Maker since a simple drag and drop of a ringtone file in OGG or MP3 to the Ringtone folder in WP doesn't work. Not sure why...
  • Hmmm... Mp3 drag and drop worked for me
  • Maybe it's been fixed over the last several 'X' Ring updates? Will give it a try again.
  • Nice..... I've been waiting..... Ok be downloading as soon as it's available for me! Posted from Windows Central's Universal App, Windows 10 (Lumia 650)

  • UI seems nice ! Waiting for it to become available....wew!?! Sent from my love Lumia1320
  • Should be integrated into the os
  • Would be cool if it was. No necessary though...and also not a make or break for most people. Does it upset you that it's not baked in? Posted from Windows Central for Windows 10

  • No im not upset just stating it would be a cool feature to bake into the os especially to help users engage into the os more
  • Agreed
  • What does he mean that the beginning and ending of the song can be altered? I know it can be cut down.... Sent from Windows 386
  • Such a simple app and there's an obvious bug in it.. If I select a piece of a song, the first time I press play, it plays the wrong piece, like a piece a few seconds after the actual selection. If I press play again, it plays the correct piece.
  • This bug is also in the beta version too.
  • Cool!
  • I seem to recall there being a search function in the old version, which isn't in the current one.  That's kind of a downer
  • if they would allow it for pc too it would be awesome :D
  • Link keeps redirecting me to the 8.1 app. I suppose I'll have to wait a little while longer.
  • This was a feature in Windows Live Messenger years ago that you could attach these to notifications for favorites or specific people! lol
  • Bugs. It loads my entire collection each time the app is launched. 5000 titles. No search feature. That being said. It does what it says. Simple straight forward layout. Nice.
  • Has this app been removed?
I still see the old one in the store. And the link to beta one says the app doesn't exist anymore.
  • every mp3 file i try to use within this app i get the message "file too big". Most are only a couple hundred kb. What am i doing wrong or what is the file size limitation to create a ringtone within this app?
