Review – E LV Leather Wallet for the Nokia Lumia 1520

If you’re one of the lucky ones to pick up a Nokia Lumia 1520 on AT&T this morning, you may be looking for something to protect it. While ranges of styles for cases on these devices varies, today we’re taking a look at the biggest one you can get, the leather wallet style.

As a throwback to the PDA days of yore, the E LV Deluxe PU Leather Wallet, which runs for a modest $10, offers solid protection and a few surprises. While its ability to make the Lumia 1520 even larger will be off putting for some, once you go this big, does it really matter?

Head past the break for some more pics and our video review.

The E LV Deluxe PU Leather Wallet has a few major benefits:

  • Low cost
  • Magnetic latch
  • Camera cut out
  • Credit card holder (x3)
  • Can awkwardly be used as a stand

That last one is true, but it’s so unsatisfying that we’re glossing over it for now. The case is fake leather, but it feels soft and plush. The front and back are reinforced and when combined with the leather (and ‘stuffing’ in between), we’re confident that this could take quite a beating.

The Lumia 1520 clicks into a plastic frame, locking in your precious device. The magnetic latch makes sure everything stays closed when traveling, and it works well here.

One downside is that the Lumia 1520 has somewhat low-profile buttons on the right side. That makes them hard to find when the device is naked, but even harder when a plastic case raises around them. Because of that, turning the device off (since you can double tap to turn on) is a bit more tedious. Same with the adjusting the volume keys.

The Wallet also comes with a rubber stylus. No, you can’t take notes with it, but you can use it to press Tiles to launch, hit interactive buttons, etc. It’s not tremendously useful, but it’s not half bad either. There’s also a removal lanyard, which is a nice touch.

Overall, the E LV Deluxe PU Leather Wallet is a massive accessory. But if you want a wallet case, you already knew that. Luckily, this wallet case is also well built, feels good in the hand and should offer some outstanding protection.

The E LV Deluxe PU Leather Wallet runs for $10 at various online stores. It comes in black, cyan and pink.
