Windows 10 PC and Mobile preview build 14915 released for Fast ring Insiders

Microsoft has released the latest preview build for Windows 10 on both PC and Mobile for Insiders in the Fast update ring.

The roll out of the latest preview build will have the version number of 14915. This is just the latest such update for Insiders member since the global rollout of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update for both PC and Mobile earlier this month.

Windows Insider head Dona Sarkar has posted what's new and improved for PC and Mobile users in this latest Windows 10 preview build

Improvements and fixes for PC

  • We fixed the issue with being unable to use the power button on the Start menu.
  • We fixed the issue causing Cortana's text to speech capabilities to not work. Cortana should be able to read text messages out loud for you, tell jokes, sing, or give verbal prompts as expected.
  • We fixed the issue causing the Settings app to crash on certain editions of Windows 10 when navigating to different settings pages due to a missing .dll file.
  • We made a number of improvements to translations, including fixing an issue in Windows Update where it would say "your phone is up to date" in French when confirming that your PC was up to date.
  • Changing functionality via Settings > Update & security > Windows Insider Program such as your ring settings should now work again on this build. For more information – see this forum post.
  • We fixed a compatibility issue from a recent platform change that causes apps such as Yahoo Mail, Trivia Crack, Google and the Skype Translator Preview app to crash.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in some Insiders experiencing a delay in Mail notification toasts appearing.
  • We fixed an issue where the "Open with" dialog's "Look for another app on this PC" link wasn't working if the dialog appeared after using the "Run" dialog to open a file with an unassociated file type.
  • We have updated the Connect flyout so that the clickable area for each device listed now spans across the full width of the flyout.
  • We fixed an issue where if a Chinese Input Method Editor is active it could result in logging in to not succeed after device goes into and is woken up from Connected Standby.
  • We fixed an issue where for certain websites in Microsoft Edge, using CTRL + A to select all text and then copying it and trying to paste it into Notepad wouldn't paste anything.
  • We fixed an issue where importing favorites into Microsoft Edge from Internet Explorer would fail if the Favorites folder had been redirected to another folder, for example "C:\Users\ [[ user ]] \Documents\Favorites".

Improvements and fixes for Mobile

  • We fixed the issue causing apps to get stuck in a pending state if you move apps between a SD card and internal storage (either direction).
  • We fixed the issue causing Cortana's text to speech capabilities to not work. Cortana should be able to read text messages out loud for you, tell jokes, sing, or give verbal prompts as expected.
  • We made a number of improvements to translations, including fixing an issue with Store app install notifications, where the wrong verb was used in German when letting you know to check out the app.
  • We have updated "You need to fix your MSA" notification toast logic, so it will no longer notify you multiple times in quick succession.
  • We fixed an issue where examining Microsoft Edge's advanced settings would result in subsequent downloads in Edge saving to the default locations, rather the preferred locations set under Settings > System > Storage.
  • We fixed an issue for Continuum-capable devices that could result in being temporarily unable to connect to a previously paired Windows 10 PC.
  • We have updated the settings for sounds so that .mp3 or .wma files downloaded straight from OneDrive or copied from File Explorer to the phone's Ringtones folder will now display automatically in the list of available sounds for ringtones, alarms and notifications.

Known issues for PC

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader crashes when you try to launch it.
  • You may experience a black screen when signing out and switching to another user account and will be unable to log in to that account. A reboot of your PC should allow you to log in to that account. Bash may not work after upgrading to this build. To get it working again, go to "Turn Windows features on or off", scroll down and check "Windows Subsystem for Linux (beta)" and click ok. After a reboot, Bash should work again.
  • The Settings app may crash when going to Settings > Personalization.

At the moment, there are no know issues for the Mobile version of this latest Windows 10 preview build.

  • Ooh fresh download now for my Lumia 650 and pc later
  • Guys no known issues for mobile...Yeah...Might we have to find few if there are any left...Lets squash them all...
  • Gotta squash em all! PokePC!
  • Certainly I still have problems with messaging, that the message send freezes and you have to wait up to a minute to be able to send another text. Already put in a bunch of tickets.
  • That part took me by surprise. No known issues for mobile? Or maybe those are Coming Soon :) Pretty excited though, loving the current build and this one seems like it will be quite nice.
  • It took all of us cynical ba$tards by surprise.
  • Issue 1 found: After scrolling action centre all the way down it doesn't go away when scrolled up from the middle of the screen.. Gotta grab it from the bottom and throw up to get rid of it... :'(
  • I've never even known that was possible to begin with
  • I agree.
  • Thank you!!! I thought i was imagining things. Its now like the way it was on 8.1 you need to pick it from the bottom, so annoying.
  • How is your progress going on? I can't wait to install this build, If you have find any issue plz dictate it here.
  • Seems like after updating I can't add a veiw all of my reminders within Cortana on my 950
  • Yep... You are not alone. Reminders are not working. You can add, but then you can't open them.
  • Same here, I can't even add a reminder. It just crashes cortana app when I click on reminders. Loads of other issues on this build too.
  • Can you share your experience with the build? Also, does your phone lag? My 650 lags on anniversary update.
  • I have 640 xl last build i have updating problem and from store does it solved in this build
  • Hopefully. I had the same problem on my 640. It's related to the sd card and internal storage problem they mention so hopfully that fixed it. It wouldn't update certain apps if you had set the default save position for new apps to SD card. Older builds usually told you that the app had to be saved to internal storage and asked if you wanted to overwrite the setting for the app involved. The problem appears to be that the new build doesn't do this anymore. I had to change my app install location setting to internal to fix the issue.
  • Yaaaaggggaaaaa
  • Also downloading on my beautiful Lumia 650.
  • How is the phone?
  • Perfect for that money, I migrated from Ativ S and this one is much better with the similar specs. Design, display, thickness, premium feel in hand ... gorgeous!
  • Like others said, perfect for that money. The only downside I experienced is stuttering notification centre on start screen, seems to be fixable but dont know if MS is aware of it.
  • I usually just show selected banners but disabled nearly all notification in action centre...
  • It's a great device
  • Please write your experiences later when you try it. Good luck :)
  • Shout it out in feedback app
  • downloading on my 950XL and SP3 :) Happy camper here :) eager to read a changelog =)
  • Yeah, I'm hoping that the Cortana voice response and text reading features are back. I have *really* missed those the last few weeks on build 14905.
  • Yep, and the start menu to shutdown is hopefully fixed as well
  • If you take 2 minutes to read the article you would see Cortana text to speech and shutdown issues were fixed
  • those comments were written hot of the press when the changelog wasn't published here yet :)
  • My bad :( downvoted myself if that's even possible
  • No worries :) all is well.
  • Crickey! Research is king! Also, if you take "2 MINUTES".........
  • Me too, so annoying having to right click start to shut down
  • Yeah. I wish we had the friggen Cortana in our market to even begin with...
  • Which market is that, out of interest? With the Anniversary Update, Microsoft made it a lot simpler to choose a supported region and stick to your preferred language dialect. I know it's not quite the same as having Cortana truly localized, but it's better than nothing at all.
  • Glad to see her back...
  • She runs around in the forums mostly.
  • Jessicator: Is that really you in your avatar?
  • Downloading on 950LX but will delay on the SP3 after you post a review. :)
  • Always good to know that there is someone out there who has the same devices as i do.
  • Change log please. Im excited lol
  • Here's the change log

  • Pulling it down!
  • Ohhh. Hope this fixes my auto dim and lock screen issues
  • Not just me having those issues then.. I'm Nokia 950 xl on release build though
  • Nope, It's slightly improved on RP, or rather it got worse on Fast... I rolled back to that from Fast cos it was killing me.
  • This has been an issue for me since the launch version of windows. I have to reboot my phone a few times a week to get brightness working.
  • Nice, been waiting for this news. Downloading as soon as I get home. Can't wait to see changelog :-). Had the SD card not recognised issue return and also a new one whereby the action centre goes crazy loading all notifications at once. Minor things in the grand scheme of things tbh.
  • Certainly minor, but when that reload all notifications at once thing happens at 3 in the morning. The noise... Oh, the noise!
  • Lol, mine is set to vibrate so I don't get the noise but man its a shock when you access the action centre first thing you when wake up and the phone feels like its going mad.
  • My Mrs had hers on vibrate. That was an awkward conversation at 3am!!!
  • Well, *that* escalated quickly!
  • Lols
  • Go to bed!
  • Ggg
  • Ggg
  • You spelled egg wrong. Hth.
  • Its downloading on my lumia 540
  • Finally!!! Man I missed using my Surface 3!
  • Hope this fixes my outlook settings out of date issues.
  • What about battery draining problem solution, my Lumia 1520 automatically switch off when battery below 50%
  • Exactly same has started happening to my phone L1520 (from two builds earlier)... Not sure if thats OS fault or battery hardware fault
  • I am using Lumia 1520 green. Phone started shutting down abruptly on build 14915 and it's predecessor 14905! Phone would not turn on thereafter. It would turn on only after I connect to power. To my surprise, remaining battery percentage is 30-85 depending on the day. It looks like OS bug but only way to tell is to replace the battery with a new one. I wouldn't replace the battery until I try next build.
  • My lumia 1520 having similar problem. It would say Goodbye sometime before going dark and sometime it would go dard w/o any message. I doubt it is a battery issue becasue I see phone has enough better level after I connect to power. Hope Microsoft is listening this.
  • No new features is really disappointing :-(
  • It first gets core updates than new features and makeup changes.
  • Hmm... Ok. Let me wait for the landscape start screen. I'll jump into fast once I see that....
  • Yeah! Would really like to have landscape notifications menu. I mean they show up in landscape but you can't pull the shade down - it's crazy!
  • I assume the guys who down vote won't install the update if they see any new features since they don't need it.
  • Stop worrying about this website downvotes xD its just some fanboys who can't handle that some people have high standards xD Let the downvotes to my post begin :D Hoping to get to -100 :D it would get me really proud! it really would :D
  • I have standards. They are probably the same as yours. That being lower than a rattlesnakes' arse. ;-)
  • New features = new bugs, lets first deal with the ones we have before adding more problems
  • Yes, Cortana issue solved, and no known issue. Looking forward for this. Love 14905, ready for 14915.
  • Yeah new update....i miss this....everytime I update I feel like I got a new mobile
  • I hate battery issue, still problem not resolved
  • Battery issue is one of the biggest issue
  • Until n unless if it will not resolved soon I change my Lumia 1520 into iPhone 7
  • Okay, thank you for letting us know. We were all on the edge of our seats waiting to see if you were going to an iPhone 7. Have fun :)
  • My xl battery does a whole day now, and sometimes a day and a half at a push! As for kicking off about the 1520, maybe its knocking on now. Batteries have a finite life you know, just like iPhones. You gonna diss your nice 7 in 18 months when it happens again?? I had a 930 from new and the battery was shocking!! I didn't run off to the latest 'fashion' icon just because everyone else has one. And yes, I do use iOS an iPads.
  • Lumia 950XL stuck at 41% for the past 10 mins
  • Stuck downloading at 66% last 20 minutes.
  • Stuck downloading at 0% last 30 minutes because I haven't pushed the download button yet.
  • That's a known issue no. 1
  • "At the moment, there are no know issues for the Mobile version of this latest Windows 10 preview build." You must be kidding me.
  • What about fast battery draining issue by the way latest update come few mins before than how can you say it has no issue
  • Maya is quoting the article. Hence the speech marks. Also the part about no bugs is what MS have said. Of course there are new bugs hidden in places... It's just MS aren't currently aware of them
  • Nice one @shadowwolf. Someone who understands the insider deal. Do we 'have to' go through this every damned release
  • It clearly states on the disclaimer but im guessing people dont like reading
  • They have a great sense of humor :D
  • The give away there is "at the moment". How would they know until we get our grubby little mitts on them? We always find something, that's why we do the insider thing.
  • Wait, no known issues for mobile??? Does this mean it's PERFECT??? Let's find out...
  • No known issues means next build is new features? :)
  • Is the bug for custom message alert tone fixed in this build? Please confirm, anybody. I will definitely move to this ring if it is.
  • Downloading on 950XL.
  • 5GHz wifi does not work if airplane mode is turned on or there is no cellular connections on mobile build. The problem has been a few builds already
  • WiFi, 2.4 or 5ghz wouldn't work if in airplane mode. I have had no cell signal and still had WiFi. Strange.
  • Downloading............
  • Preparing to install updates 5% on Lumia 640 XL
  • Size
  • Although I'm glad to see it fixed Cortana, it did NOT fix the problem with renaming tile groups.  Start just crashes every time you try.  I see this on five different devices.
  • Size? I am out and on my mobile data
  • 1.3GB
  • Easy Ringtone selection supports finally!!
  • Background downloading option missing Can be made available as the store apps are downloaded in background
  • The real problem with my 8GB device is, there is no enough space to install the update. It requires around 1.3 GB. I only have few apps in phone storage (including Facebook which is very large and doesn't work well in SD card).
  • Had the same issue, delete all deletable apps from phone storage, download and install update, then reinstall. I used to remove my email accounts and I'd get the space needed then reconfigure once done.
  • Yes! Cortana voice and share menu is back :)
  • This fixed the Bluetooth Action Center issue on my Lumia Icon.
  • Ringtones!
  • Great Wall
  • Another build was due, the reason being that the last build had started to degrade after a week or two as per usual. Photos/Outlook interaction was seriously broken, attempting to share a few pics via Outlook resulted in crashes back to the dekstop several times before finally sending, was driving me nuts as this is something I do all the time during my working day. I hope they've fixed this - downloading now.
  • So what features are new? Just fixes!?
  • Core fixes. Feature come later ( hopefully )
  • Cool
  • I ran into double gears, smiley and Microsoft inscription for several hours, and it is still not set yet while updating to this build 14915.1000. It is frustrating. I am currently working on reverting the Lumia 640XL to its default state using Windows Recovery Tool. Posted via the Windows Central App for Tecno-L8+
  • hey did anyone else experience a ton of random restarts/black screens in the previous mobile build? i cant even count how many times its happened so im really hoping this build fixes that.
  • 5 hours of download reach 55% *-*
  • Yes! Hey Cortana is back! Well, at least the 'Train' button is there. Hopefully, it works!
  • Well that was no fun. Lumia 950xl got super warm but eventually took the upgrade after a soft reset. Lumia 650 is a no go. Fails with an old 8.1 SD card error 0x80188308. Not impressed.
  • On my Lumia 650 I have 0x80188308 too :(
  • Same problem on my Lumia 550
  • Yeah, the Start button works again. I know, it's the little things at this point.
  • I no longer have a delay when launching Cortana voice search from the search glass.
  • I am using lumia 820 and i'm on fast ring but I'm not getting any update for a while. My last update version is 10586.107. Can anyone help?
  • First use interop tool to edit registry of ur device.then Go to windows insider.select release preview ring.u will get update 14393.103.after installing that select fast ring.u will get 14915
  • so does this fix the Store and downloading Updates for Apps on Mobile?
  • I have Lumia 640 XL last build i faced some problem about store its not geting updated and equalizer, touch etc such kind oh important things showed error. so can anyone tell that this today's build having same problem or not?
  • Maps and OneNote just updated properly for me in store Lumia 640
  • It's a preview build. Release is the one for stuff that works.
  • My daughter moved over to Samsung S7 Edge from Lumia Icon and now can't use her Bluetooth in car to send and read out texts! So Cortana beats Android!
  • Is hey cortana back and working for mobile? Cause apparently i cant turn it back on after doing a hard reset on anniversary update. Hmm hope they fix this in upcoming builds :| .
  • Hopefully MS has internally pinned down the cause of the Adobe Reader crashes. Staying on Release Preview for now until that is fixed. Posted via my Nexus 5X
  • Windows 10 Mobile update 10.0.14915.1000 error 0x80188308 on Lumia 650. I have tried to download and install this update 4x till now. What to do??
  • Back up, reset device and try again. Thats one way. Or google what the error code means
  • But there are not any update for call recording option update for my Lumia 930
  • Marvell Wireless adapter on my Surface Pro 2 after update no longer available. Tried a few things, finally rolled back
  • Ah. So I'm not the only one :)
  • Yes, happened to me as well with my Surface Pro 2. Marvell wireless drivers had an error. Also rolled back to 14905 sucessfully.
  • Last 2 builds I have prob with my camera on l1520.when I capture a picture appears lines all over the photo.its so annoying and destroys my nice camera.microsoft fix this.....
  • It's a preview build. Go back to release if you need things to work.
  • Working great here on ma phone now to go and upgrade the 3 pcs I reinstalled yesterday as the no settings and that was doing ma head in lol
  • pc wiffi driver not installing so no wifi Lenvos405
  • My Windows 10 PC and mobile were updated to this build (14915.1000), and I cannot find my phone on my system anymore even though the pc makes connection sound several times. When I checked deeper in, it showed me that the pc did not have the driver to connect the mobile. Poor update
  • Sound for camera shutter is missing since previous build.. No fix in this build too..
  • My L950DS heats up like hell after downloading B915. The former built was very good, no any problems and bugs. I have hard resented twice and no any help!
  • The same problem on my lumia 640...
  • Has anybody any advice except WDRT?
  • Some apps like windows central.outlook mail app or facebook beta, whatsapp apps got crashed when phone get locked.
  • Still display (Setting-> Extras -> Display) app is not get updated it still like windows phone 8/8.1
  • For me, this build is a "no go". MASSIVE battery drain on my lumia 640, and like others in this forum, the device runs hot. With no special use, my battery lasted five hours! But yes, Cortana is back... Lol
  • Reset the phone. I did same and my 640XL is smooth and it is not hot. The battery stays longer, it the only drawback is that my phone is no longer seen on my pc when it is connected
  • I Downloaded 14915 last night and used it all day and I have not found any bugs yet to speak of my 950 is running extremely well on this build and battery is great and not hot at all no crashes stuttering or any of the like.it runs better than my 640 on anniversary build groove is working perfect as is everything else sorry to see others having problems I love this build favorite so far.The problems I was having on last build are all gone.
  • Crashed and rebooted am hour ago on it's own!
  • My Nokia 830 is running amazingly well on this new build - until the random reboot every few hours that is :(
  • Anybody having an issue with the audio shutter sound not working in the MSFT Camera App. Works fine with ProShot. Was not working in the previous build either.
  • U r not alone...
  • I have installed 14915 this build on my mobile. My mobile is switching of automatically and iam removing and replacing back the battery to restart my mobile. Pls look in to this issue
  • Many apps stopped working.... Had to re install. Also Edge browser is crashing when opened on my 950...
  • Reminders can be set automatically but if you try to open reminders or set a new one by the Cortana app, it crashes. Lumia 640xl Work around: Write the message as if you are dictating it. It will set your reminder.
  • Dis update did worse than u can imagine,I can't update any app,I can't also download some apps ..some system alert tones doesn't work..am using L730
  • i have lumia 640.i have got just little bit problems.seems faster to me.everithyng is working.no restarts....after hard reset.
  • Blimey... I only got these updates last night, much later than I normally get them, now all on 950xl, PC and SB :)
  • Tweetium is broken on my 830 on this build. App reinstall did not help.
  • Tweetium update today resolved it for me.
  • Lumia 950 - I hadn't really had any issues so far on the insider preview. With this builid battery life has gone from amazing to awful, phone overheats whilst charging or using GPS navigation. Phone restarts itself a lot. Spotify app freezes, clicking notifications goes to the app but the app it goes to stays blank. Bluetooth issues are worse than the known issues we already had, in gerneral a lot of apps or parts of the phone I'm in crash and goes to home screen, All reported via the Feedback app
  • Really terrible. Lumia 950 XL. I have lost a lot of my recently made pictures. They suddenly disappeared. New music did not play in Groove. A lot of apps did not work. My phone gets very overheated time to time. Some apps cannot be updated. I don't like this update!
  • After updating to this build, I lost my WiFi driver on pc.. Anyone to help? I'm using an Hp G3 250 laptop
  • 14915 update it s the best update ever , I have lumia 950 xl , mobile phone is faster, I can use the battery for days and a half, no bugs and no freezing.
  • repost
  • Nokia 1520   Anyone else having issues with File Explorer? 1) Only a few thumbnails show up when I browse video folder 2) Videos no longer instantly launch.  Depending on video size, can now take as long as 60 seconds to launch, where before this update launch was always instant 3) Deleting Videos from  Phone takes up to 30 seconds, whereas prior to the update it was instant. 4) Transferring videos to phone now takes about twice as long as it did prior to update.   On another note, Cortana seems to finally be fully functional.  I've regained access to "Hey Cortana" and the option to "Train" is no longer greyed out.
