Amazon is opening a new studio in Montreal as part of Amazon Games. This team's leadership is composed of developers who previously worked on Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft's ongoing shooter that has grown to over 70 million players.

"Montreal's rich vein of creative talent will be a valuable asset as we continue building our development and publishing teams," said Christoph Hartmann, VP, Amazon Games. This is the fourth studio to be part of Amazon Games, which also currently consists of teams in San Diego, Seattle and Orange County in the U.S. This new team is working on a AAA multiplayer game, with Creative Director Xavier Marquis adding that it's a "completely unique experience in the multiplayer space."

Amazon Games' other titles over the last few years have seen quite mixed results, with hero shooter Crucible quickly pulled and canceled shortly after release, while the upcoming MMO New World has been repeatedly delayed and is now slated to be released on August 31, 2021. Meanwhile, the launch of the Amazon Luna platform is continuing to expand to different devices.
