Gears 5 goes up for preorder, complete with a beefy collector's edition

What you need to know

  • Gears 5 launches on September 10.
  • The title features new modes like Escape.
  • The game continues the new story started in Gears of War 4.
  • You can preorder it for $60 on Amazon.

Last year, Microsoft stated that Gears 5 would launch sometime in 2019. Even though half of the year is already over, we didn't get a release window or a concrete release date. Luckily, the Taiwanese games rating agency had other plans. According to a listing on the body's website, Gears 5 launches on September 10.

During E3 2019, Microsoft confirmed the release date. Gears 5 looks like it tells a personal story and focuses on the mental anguish of the main character. It's unclear where the story will go from there, but The Coalition studio head Rod Ferguson said that it's the biggest Gears game ever made.

New modes like Escape are also being added to the game. There will be plenty of opportunities to play it down the line, and you can even test it out in Microsoft Stores. However, the highlight of the announcement had to be the stunning collector's edition. It features a lot of amazing items, and it'll probably sell out really fast. Keep in mind that it's exclusive to GameStop.
