What you need to know

  • Xbox Game Pass is a Netflix-like gaming subscription from Microsoft, with over 150 games on offer.
  • According to a new announcement from Xbox, DOOM Eternal, the latest in the demon-slaying franchise, is coming to the service.
  • DOOM Eternal arrives on Xbox Game Pass on October 1, 2020, with Xbox Game Pass for PC planned later on.
  • Hack-and-slash and rip-and-tear through Hell's armies at no additional cost if you're an Xbox Game Pass subscriber.

Yesterday, we reported on a teased image from the Xbox Game Pass team that indicated DOOM Eternal could be heading to Microsoft's value-driven gaming subscription. Thanks to a new announcement from Xbox, we can confirm that DOOM Eternal is officially coming to Xbox Game Pass (opens in new tab), and players won't have long to wait. The sequel to the demon-slaying franchise's revival is exploding onto Xbox Game Pass for consoles as of October 1, 2020, with a launch onto Xbox Game Pass for PC a little later on.

We expect this to be the first of many such announcements after the bombshell news that Microsoft acquired Zenimax Media, the parent company for legendary gaming studios like Bethesda (Fallout, Skyrim), id Software (DOOM), and much more. As Microsoft now owns all of these game franchises, it only makes sense for their latest offerings to begin trickling into Xbox Game Pass, beginning with one of the industry's most goretastic and absolutely glorious first person shooters.

DOOM Eternal is getting its first expansion in the Ancient Gods: Part One on October 20, 2020, so players who have already gotten their fill of what DOOM Eternal has to offer will have a reason to make another foray into Hell when the expansion drops, while PC players hopefully won't have to wait too much longer for DOOM Eternal to also drop onto their Xbox Game Pass.

Will you be playing DOOM Eternal once it comes to Xbox Game Pass? Will it be your first time playing? Let us know in the comments below!

  • Woooo! been waiting patiently for this... although I REALLY want to see it running on the Xbox Series X..... can I wait... hmmmm
  • Hopefully not much longer on Game Pass PC
  • "Xbox Game Pass for PC later in 2020." Uggh..!! Why later, not at the same time?
  • Because. 1) Microsoft doesn't yet own Bethesda and certainly didn't make DOOM Eternal. 2) Licenses, tech, multitude of reasons. If it doesn't work flawlessly through the Windows Store and the integration with the Xbox app then it's bad. These things don't happen overnight.
