Thanks to reporting from Mr. Rebs, who has a strong track record, we now have more details on the development of Halo Campaign Evolved, a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, first released in 2001 for the original Xbox.

In the report, Rebs says Halo Studios, formerly 343 Industries, is working with Abstraction, a co-development studio that has contributed to titles like Mass Effect, Baldur’s Gate 3, Dune: Awakening, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

  • Concept design for missions
  • Level blockout and layout creation
  • Polishing and finalizing mission content
  • Creating scripted events
  • Retuning combat and gameplay
  • Adapting gameplay for new mechanics like sprint
  • Supporting features such as four player co op

If the report is accurate, and as I mentioned, Rebs has a solid track record, this would mean Abstraction is responsible for a large portion of Campaign Evolved’s development. That said, given its experience, there is reason to feel confident about the outcome.

Campaign Evolved is also rumored to launch earlier than the expected anniversary window, with a potential Summer 2026 release. This could position it ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI, which is expected in November 2026, assuming it is not delayed again.

Of course, everything is still up in the air, but do be sure to show Mr. Rebs some love and give them a follow on X and YouTube.

🗨️ Are you happy to see Abstraction working on Campaign Evolved?

Abstraction has a long history of co-developing games, from major successes like Baldur’s Gate 3 to smaller, but still well-received titles like Hotline Miami.

Its involvement here is much more extensive, and it could mean it is directly responsible for some of the complaints people have raised about Campaign Evolved’s reveal.

With that said, let me know your thoughts in the comments, and make sure to take part in our poll below.
