Back in June 2025, Owlcat Games, the creators of my favorite Warhammer 40,000 game of all time, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, revealed its most ambitious project to date, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn.
It is a dark, gritty, sci-fi RPG set within the universe of The Expanse TV show and novels, with gameplay that is said to be inspired by BioWare's classic Mass Effect series.
Fast-forward to March 2026, Owlcat Games has released a new trailer for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn during the Xbox Partner Preview event.
Article continues belowThis reveals what the game's gameplay will be like and confirms that it will launch sometime for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.com during Spring 2027.
It's also been announced that The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will be coming to Xbox Game Pass and that it will receive Xbox Play Anywhere support.
However, players will get a chance to play it early as The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will have a closed beta test scheduled for the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Steam versions of the game on April 22, 2026.
In this game, you play as a mercenary from the Pinkwater Security company acting as security for the Eros space station. One day, the station gets attacked by invaders and they slaughter thousands of its innocent inhabitants, including your friends and colleagues.
During the massacre, you hijack one of the enemy's experimental spaceships and use it to escape. Now, you must venture into the universe to gather a loyal crew to help you run your new ship, get payback on the invaders who killed your friends, and uncover a grand conspiracy that could bring chaos to the galaxy.
As for its gameplay, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is a story-rich action-RPG with third-person shooter combat.
You will explore the galaxy and be forced to make moral decisions that can vastly change the direction the plot takes and the fate of several characters. Plus, these choices come with severe consequences depending on what kind of spacefarer you wish to be
Along the way, you will frequently engage hordes in intense gunfights where you need to take cover to avoid being shot, blow up enemies with a vast array of firearms and gadgets, and use a unique Exploit system where you can command your party members to interact with the environment to take out groups of enemies in one fell swoop.
You can experience what I just described and more through The Expanse: Osiris Reborn's upcoming Closed Beta Test, which, according to Xbox Wire, can be accessed by purchasing its Miller’s Pack or the Collector’s Edition on the game’s official site.
The closed beta will be open until the game's full release in Spring 2027.
