There's no denying that Fallout Season 2 has been a monumental success for Amazon and Microsoft, and now, thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we have some details on just how successful.
It’s especially notable given Microsoft’s mixed track record with video game adaptations, from the poorly received Halo TV show to the Minecraft movie (which I’d argue was one of the worst movies I’ve personally seen, even if it still found commercial success).
Still, it’s clear audiences are hungry for more Fallout. Season 2 pulled in 83 million viewers, making it Amazon’s second biggest returning show, behind Reacher.
Article continues belowIn a report from The Hollywood Reporter, based on first-party data from Prime Video, Fallout Season 2 reached 83 million viewers within its first 13 weeks. That makes it the second biggest returning series on the platform, behind Reacher Season 2.
Season 1 also saw a resurgence during this time, with more than 100 million people globally having watched at least part of the Fallout TV show overall.
Given those numbers, it’s no surprise that Season 3 was greenlit before Season 2 had even aired.
Fallout continues to resonate in a powerful way with our global Prime Video audience, and reaching 100 million viewers is a testament to the incredible creative vision of our collaborators at Kilter Films, Bethesda Game Studios, [creators and showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner] and the entire cast and crew
Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios
Friedlander also went on to add:
"The show’s performance reaffirms this, with season two now joining season one as two of our top four biggest seasons we’ve ever launched. We’re thrilled to see the franchise continue to grow as we head into season three".
I will admit that despite watching Season 1 and really enjoying it, I haven’t yet gotten around to Season 2.
That said, seeing how successful it has been and how well it’s reviewed, I’ll likely give it a try soon when I get the time.
Let me know your thoughts. Have you seen Fallout Season 2? If so, what did you think? Has it lived up to the hype and stayed faithful to the video games, or were you disappointed by the adaptation?
