Here's why you won't see HP gaming laptops anymore — thankfully, this change makes a whole lot of sense

Seeing new HP OMEN gaming hardware has been a staple of the Consumer Electronics Show experience for years, but that's changed with CES 2026. That's right, you won't see any HP OMEN gaming laptops, desktops, or other devices coming out this year.

This might sound upsetting at first, particularly to people who prefer to use these devices, but this is actually good news.

The reason there aren't any HP OMEN devices at CES 2026 is that HP has moved all of its gaming hardware under the HyperX subbrand name. So, if you love HP OMEN gaming monitors and laptops, you'll now find them named similarly, but under HyperX OMEN.

Here's the official announcement from HP itself:

“Gamers deserve a seamless experience that matches their passion, from the systems that power their worlds to the gear that connects them,” said Josephine Tan, Senior Vice President and Division President of Personal Systems Gaming Solutions at HP Inc. “As we bring OMEN and HyperX together, we’re continuing to push the boundaries of gaming innovation, delivering performance, personalization and experiences that help every player reach their full potential.”

As Tan said, putting all of HP's gaming devices under the same HyperX name makes it easier to find all of the gaming hardware offered by the company. It feels better organized this way.

To kick off this change, HP announced several new OMEN devices under the HyperX name, with a particular emphasis on the HyperX OMEN MAX 16, which HP says is "the world's most powerful gaming laptop with fully internal cooling."

This gaming laptop utilizes Intel Core Ultra 200H processors and AMD Ryzen AI processors, along with up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 L GPU. It also offers a gorgeous 16-inch OLED display that's capable of hitting up to a 240Hz refresh rate. It's an impressive gaming laptop, indeed.

Other new HyperX OMEN devices worth noting are the stunning HyperX OMEN QD-OLED 360Hz 34 curved gaming monitor and HyperX Clutch Tachi (Xbox-license arcade controller).

A rebrand that completely makes sense

In case you didn't already know, HP acquired HyperX in June 2021, and up until now, the HyperX line has traditionally been more like a supplemental gaming subbrand that mainly covers gaming accessories like headsets, keyboards, gaming mice, and such.

Now, with HyperX taking more control of the gaming side of things, the main HP brand can focus more on its consumer and business laptops while HyperX dives deeper into the gaming side of things.

It's a shift that not only makes perfect sense, but gives more credence to the HyperX name as a true gaming hardware brand, not just a peripheral support company.
