What you need to know

  • Xbox Live Gold is an online subscription service from Microsoft, which also includes four free games a month through Games with Gold.
  • Xbox has just revealed the four games coming to Xbox Games with Gold in April, and the list is just okay.
  • Games with Gold has come under fire in recent years for lackluster offering month-to-month.
  • In April, 2021, Xbox Games with Gold will include Vikings: Wolves of Midgard, Truck Racing Championship, Dark Void, and Hard Corps: Uprising.

April is almost here, and Xbox is starting off the month by revealing the Xbox Games with Gold for April (opens in new tab). Xbox Games with Gold is a revolving collection of four free games that subscribers can redeem every single month. This month's selection closely mirrors previous months for Xbox Games with Gold, with the four available games being smaller titles. You can check out the announcement trailer below.

The four free games included with Xbox Games with Gold in April include Vikings: Wolves of Midgard from April 1 to April 30, Dark Void from April 1 to April 15, Truck Racing Championship from April 16 to May 15, and Hard Corps: Uprising from April 16 to April 30. The four games are worth a combined $130 and 3,200 in Gamerscore.

If you subscribe to Xbox Live Gold for online multiplayer, then Xbox Games with Gold is included in that subscription. However, the best way to get it all on Xbox is through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This monthly subscription includes Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Games with Gold, Xbox Game Pass for consoles and PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

There's no better value in gaming, and the catalog available in Xbox Game Pass more than makes up for disappointing offerings through Xbox Games with Gold. Don't believe me? Check out our list of games coming and leaving soon from Xbox Game Pass for the rundown.

  • Games with Gold has long run its course and now it's almost insulting if getting something for free can be insulting. Stating every month the "value", $129.96 this month for these gems, is laughable.
  • I've long said they should just ditch Games With Gold and instead add the titles into Game Pass as permanent additions. Given the fact that you have to keep Gold ongoing to play Xbox One GwG it's exactly the same system as Game Pass anyway and I don't think the potential loss of playing 360 games if someone leaves Game Pass is going to be a massive detriment. Although we are talking about gamers here who will literally complain about anything so who knows on that one.
  • Vikings looks up my alley, I love a good ARPG, and apparently end game is meh but I have enough "end game" games to play, I'd much rather just play a story and move on to the next title.
