Yes, the Xbox Series X can be used horizontally as well as vertically

Microsoft unveiled the next-gen Xbox dubbed the "Xbox Series X" during The Game Awards, and I've already seen a few interesting comments about the design.

The console looks monolithic in its configuration, with air vents across the top. Microsoft noted in its blog about the console that this design revolves around keeping the system as quiet as possible while being able to cram it with beefy next-gen specs, which we've heard could be anywhere up to 12TF.

One thing many people have been asking me already is, can I use this vertically, as well as horizontally? The answer is yes!

From the blog post on the Xbox Series X, Microsoft elaborated a bit further on the design (emphasis mine).

Its industrial design enables us to deliver four times the processing power of Xbox One X in the most quiet and efficient way, something that is critically important in delivering truly immersive gameplay. We also designed Xbox Series X to support both vertical and horizontal orientation. It's bold and unique, very much like our fans around the world and the team of collaborators and innovators who built it.

We don't have full specifications on the size and orientation just yet, but you can get a decent idea on how thick it is from the next-gen Xbox controller (which also comes with a d-pad, by the way).

The Xbox Series X launches in the holiday season of 2020, around a year from now. And we can't wait.
