Windows Phone Central Game Roundup: Racing Games
Windows Phone Central Game Roundup: Racing Games

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!

This week's Windows Phone Central roundup is focused on racing games. Windows Phone games that have you racing the clock, an opponent or the bad guy.

These games are entertaining ways to pass the time with and won't fetch you a traffic citation as you peg out the speedometer. We picked four titles that caught our eye but keep in mind, these gaming only scratch the surface of the racing games available.

Armored Drive

Armored Drive (free): Armored Drive is one of the many fantastic gaming titles from Elbert Perez and Occasional Gamers.

You play the role of Spy Car test driver where you face different missions that will not only test your skills as a driver but the cars abilities. Dangers include cars, planes, helicopters with mission scenarios landing you in London, Buenos Aires, Dubai, Chicago and more. You can earn and collect money that can in turn be used to upgrade your armored drive.

Armored Drive reminds me of the old Spy Hunter arcade game just more beefy and more free reign to cause devastation and destruction.

Armored Drive is a free, ad-supported game for your Windows Phone. Armored Drive is available for both Windows Phone 7.x and 8 devices and you can find it here in the Windows Phone Store.

Dream Track Nation

Dream Track Nation (trial/$2.99): Dream Track Nation is a uniquely challenging race game for your Windows Phone. You race against the clock using a wide variety of vehicles that includes a race car, motorcycle, dump truck, and a bulldozer.

The multi-level Xbox Windows Phone game has four worlds to race through with twenty unique tracks per world. If that's not enough, you have a Track Editor where you can create your own race tracks.

Sounds simple right? Asides from the challenge of finishing the course in the fastest time, these tracks are a little on the wild side with jumps, loops, directional changes, flips and other loony twists and turns. Each course takes full advantage of your forward and reverse gears. Should you flip your car, just flip your Windows Phone to right things.

Dream Track Nation is a Nokia exclusive for Windows Phone 8 and 7.x Lumia Windows Phones. There is a free trial version with the full version currently running $2.99. You can find Dream Track Nation here in the Nokia Collection of the Windows Phone Store.

Xtreme Joyride Lite

Xtreme Joyride Lite (free): Xtreme Joyride Lite is just a fun game to play. You have a full tank of gas, a healthy supply of nitro, and are tasked with seeing how far you can make it before you either a)crash and burn or b) run out of gas.

Your vehicle's acceleration is automatic but you can always give it a boost of nitro. Vehicle controls mainly deal with keeping your car balanced as it hits bumps and catch air jumping off sand dunes.

The game has nineteen car styles from pickup trucks to buses to muscle cars. You can upgrade your cars with the cash you earn from jumps (bonus cash for somersaults), and vehicles are customizable with decals, rim color and body color.  Xtreme Joyride Lite has online leaderboards for bragging rights and your gaming profile can be backed up to cloud storage so if you switch phones, you won't lose any of your stats.

Xtreme Joyride Lite is a clean, simple game that is fun to pass the time with. It is a free, ad-supported game for your Windows Phone 8 or 7.x device. You can find Xtreme Joyride Lite here in the Windows Phone Store.

Drag Racing

Drag Racing (free): Drag Racing is a fast paced, highly competitive racing game for your Windows Phone 8 devices. It has an RPG feel to it in that you earn cash and racing points that you can use to buy, upgrade and fine tune your racing cars.

Drag Racing has over fifty cars to race that range from good old fashion muscle cars to high-scale precision sports cars. You can race in a career mode working your way to various bosses, race against the computer, race against other Drag Racing players chosen at random, race in real time ten-player races, or against friends.

Upgrades include turbo chargers, high performance tires, nitro boosts, and more. You can tweak your engines gear ratios to get the most out of your car. Graphics are fantastic, racing competitive, and overall Drag Racing is a fun game to pass the time with.

Drag Racing is a free, ad supported game for your Windows Phone. You can get rid of the ads through an in-app purchase of $1.29. You can find Drag Racing here in the Windows Phone Store.

Racing games are a fun, challenging way to pass the time with. We've only touched on the tip of the iceberg on all the racing games available in the Windows Phone Store.

If we've missed your favorite, don't read too much into it. Just toss out your racing game recommendation below in the comments.

Real racing 2 is good but its graphics are a joke compared to RR3 I saw some guy playing on his Samsung s3

I remember playing it early last year. I was literally addicted to the game. But bad physics eventually ruined it for me.

Hr finally added another city. I've maxxed everything out on the game and finished all the levels. Just keeping it installed on the chance he makes another update.

Drag Racing is freezing every time for me at level 5-7. Only starting to work after remove & reinstall.
