If you've been looking to dive back into Obsidian Entertainment's latest fantasy role-playing game, Avowed, there is an important heads-up to be aware of, as the game's next update has been delayed past what was planned with the original roadmap.

Obsidian Entertainment shared the news via Bluesky, announcing that the Fall Update will now be pushed to 2026, where it will coincide with Avowed's first anniversary.

This new Anniversary Update will still include all the features previously promised, including a New Game Plus mode, Photo Mode, and a new weapon type, alongside other new features that will make it the "biggest update yet."

Greetings, Envoys! If you’ve been following our Update Roadmap, you’ll know we planned to release an update this fall. Avowed will not be receiving a fall update. Instead, we’re shifting our efforts toward a larger update coming next February, timed with the anniversary of the game’s release.

With the New Game Plus mode being pushed back, my prior warning about having a save file before Avowed's endgame will remain in place, so do keep that in mind if you're hopping back in or playing for the first time soon.

I'm quite curious as to what other new features will be included in this Anniversary Update. I'd personally love some kind of story expansion, but that seems unlikely and certainly wouldn't be what the team is referring to right now.

Avowed first launched back in February 2025, with the game receiving a spring and summer update in response to player feedback. These updates have added Steam Deck Verification, an arachnophobia mode, improvements to enemy behaviors and abilities, and more.

Obsidian has been extremely active throughout the year, with other teams at the developer launching Grounded 2 into early access in July, as well as launching The Outer Worlds 2 in October, while yet another team has even been busy adding a turn-based mode to Pillars of Eternity.

Looking ahead, it's not clear what is next for the prolific studio, though some of the team will continue to be updating The Outer Worlds 2 and working on the game's two promised DLC expansions, while another team continues work on Grounded 2.

Avowed is currently available on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC (Battle.net, Steam, and Xbox on PC). It's also included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
