What you need to know

  • Mass Effect is a legendary sci-fi RPG series that dropped off the map slightly with its last controversial release, Andromeda.
  • It's only fitting, however, that the legendary series get a Legendary Edition, with the original trilogy being remastered for modern platforms.
  • Mass Effect: Legendary Edition includes the first three Mass Effect games and all released DLC and updates, with improved textures, resolutions, and performance.
  • Now, thanks to two separate retailers, we may have a previously unknown release date of March 12, 2021, for the Mass Effect collection.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is bringing back the much-beloved sci-fi RPG series with modern graphics, performance, and features and is currently available for pre-order. However, until now, we had no clue when the game collection would officially release. Thanks to a new report from Eurogamer, there's a good chance that Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will be launching on modern gaming platforms, including Xbox, Playstation, and PC, on March 12, 2021. Two separate retailers, Shopitree from Singapore and GSShop from Indonesia, have Mass Effect: Legendary Edition listed with this release date, solidifying the rumor.

Of course, this is still a rumor, as EA hasn't confirmed an official release date, so take this with a grain of salt. If this is true, however, players won't have long to wait before they can jump into the original Mass Effect trilogy all over again, this time with improved textures, resolutions, framerates, technical features, and more. It's not clear how dramatic of a remaster the Legendary Edition will be, but it's still exciting for all Mass Effect fans. The game collection will include Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3, as well as all previously released DLC and game updates for the series.

When the series was announced, Casey Hudson from Bioware had the following to say:

For many months now, our team at BioWare has been hard at work updating the textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features of three enormous games. Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form.

We'll have to wait longer to see if this leaked release date is actually real, but either way, interested players can pre-order Mass Effect: Legendary Edition right now on Amazon for Xbox One and PS4, and the collection is also dropping on PC. There will also be specific enhancements for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

Prepare to jump into Mass Effect's incredible original trilogy all over again by upgrading your TV with one of the Best 4K TVs for Xbox Series X|S. A remaster of one of gaming's legendary franchises deserves the best to show off its shiny new graphics.
