Today during Gamescom 2019, Rockfish Games, the creators of Everspace, announced Everspace 2. Unlike the rogue-like prequel, this game is an open-world space shooter with classic role-playing elements and persistent player progression. Everspace 2 is coming to Steam Early Access in 2020 and should hit Xbox One in 2021.
Cofounder of Rockfish Games, Michael Schade, said the following about the project.
With its innovative concept of rapid space battles with rogue-like elements and exciting storytelling, Everspace was able to excite over a million PC and console players, but many of our fans and space game enthusiasts were still longing for an open-world space shooter... With Everspace 2, we are making a big leap towards an open-world space shooter, but will still remain true to our DNA and offer exactly what our fans love.
Rockfish Games plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign on September 9 with a funding goal of €450,000 for Everspace 2. If you liked the original, be sure to lend your support to the team's upcoming project.
Everspace is currently available through Xbox Game Pass. You can subscribe to the service for $10 a month, or bundle it with Xbox Live Gold for $15 a month.
