During Warhammer Skulls 2026, one of the biggest surprises of the event was that the popular co-op horde shooter, Helldivers 2, announced a Legendary Warbond collaboration with Warhammer 40,000, as a follow-up to its Halo: ODST crossover.
Nobody knew what this historic crossover was going to look like, but we do now, as Helldivers 2 has just released a trailer for the Warhammer 40,000 Legendary Warbond.
The trailer reveals that this Warbond will feature "TG-8 Sharpshooter" and "T-122 Demo-Trooper" character skins inspired by the soldiers of Warhammer 40,000's Astra Militarum faction (a.k.a. the Imperial Guard).
Additionally, this Warbond will feature weapons ripped straight out of Warhammer 40,000, including Meltaguns, Bolt Pistols, Meltamines, and Hot-Shot Marksman Rifles, along with new vehicle patterns to have Helldivers 2's mechs and war machines have color schemes similar to vehicles used by the Imperial Guard.
The trailer confirms that Helldivers 2's Warhammer 40,000 Legendary Warbond will be released on August 12, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
Windows Central's take
Now, for the longest time, I didn't play Helldivers 2 because it was locked behind PlayStation 5 and PC at first, before releasing on Xbox later, being interested in other games at the time, and because of controversial updates that caused players to review bomb it on Steam (although recently reviews have jumped back to "mainly positive").
Yet, as a Warhammer 40,000 fan, I can't help but admit to myself, "Okay, Helldivers 2, you got me, this crossover looks pretty sweet".
For those unaware, the Imperial Guard is one of the most hardcore yet relatable factions in Warhammer 40,000 and has slowly become one of my personal favorites.
They're not genetically enhanced like the iconic Space Marines; they're just ordinary men and women like you or me. Yet, they're not afraid to charge headfirst into unwinnable battles and fight to purge the universe of the untold horrors of Chaos daemons, never-ending hordes of Orks, and other foul alien menaces, all in the name of the God Emperor.
Some of the greatest heroes of the Warhammer 40,000 setting also happened to be ordinary humans, like Commissar Yarrick who defended the world of Armageddon time and again from millions of Ork barbarians, or Ciaphas Cain who defended the Imperium of Man from Orks, Necrons and the forces of Chaos (even if he, at least in my view, deludes himself into thinking he's a massive coward undeserving of credit), just to name a few.
In short, the Imperial Guard are awesome and, I believe, a perfect fit for Helldivers 2's chaotic, wartorn universe. So I can't wait to at last give Helldivers 2 a shot (along with giving the Terminds a shot of Meltagun fire) when it's Warhammer 40,000 Legendary Warbond drops on August 12, 2026.
