This year was somewhat of a soap opera for the Xbox One. At the beginning of the year Microsoft was trailing Sony in console sales and they were still recovering from the lashings they received for introducing the Xbox One as an online-only console. However, at E3 in June they came out swinging and delivered one of their best E3 press conferences to date.
This fall, they delivered some amazing games exclusively for Xbox owners such as Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. But now it's time to put 2014 to rest as we look at the Xbox One's most anticipated games of 2015.
So last week I decided to take to my followers on twitter to help me decide what the 3 most anticipated games of 2015 are. So let's take a look at the results.
3. Tom Clancy's The Division
This one coming in at number 3 was actually a bit of a surprise to me. This one is easily in my personal top 3 for next year, but I didn't know everyone else felt the same about this game. From the moment I saw that E3 trailer I was taken back as I've always been a huge fan of Tom Clancy's and Ubisoft's games. The game is a third-person MMO shooter that takes place after the United States collapsed due to a disease that spread during Black Friday. You are part of the Strategic Homeland Division or "The Division" for short, and your just is simple; save what remains. Little else is known about the storyline in the game.
Let's just say it like it is. If this game takes the best of DayZ and adds that Tom Clancy spice to it, this will easily be in the running for shooter of the year next year. This game like Dayz will be an online only game where you take on enemy AI as well as other gamers playing in the same world as you. The things we can expect from it though is a great cover system, awesome sounding guns, and some stellar firefights.
2. Star Wars: Battlefront
This game has been the most requested games since the last game launched back in 2005. Well, next year will be full of Star Wars action when the next installment of Star Wars: Battlefront is released. No one really knows what it is or how it will play yet, but that doesn't stop it from being number 2 on our list.
The reason people loved Star Wars: Battlefront was because of the large scale battles that you could actually take part that were iconic scenes from the film. It also allowed you to take control of powerful Jedis, Hans, and Fetts. Something that no other Star Wars game had done at the time.
If the new Star Wars: Battlefront builds off of this and adds more large scale events (imagine how many enemies they can fit onto a screen now) this game will probably be the best Star Wars game ever made. But the thing I'm most excited for is its story. If it adds another rich compelling story to the existing Star Wars universe, this will be the Star Wars game I've always wanted.
1.Halo 5: Guardians
This of course, comes as no surprise. Halo is Xbox's premier franchise and with the next installment coming next year, Xbox users are anticipating this game more than others. There are few details that 343 has revealed about Halo 5: Guardians, but those details make me extremely excited to see how the game unfolds.
First off, we know that Master Chief will not be the only playable character in the game as Commander Locke (the star of Halo: Nightfall) will also be playable. And from the sound of it Commander Locke isn't an ally which is sure to add some drama to the story. Also, I'm hoping for the plot to be Master Chief searching for Cortana as she sacrificed herself at the end of Halo 4.
Now for what we do know for sure. Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer is going to be awesome. I got to play it at HaloFest earlier this year and the game going back to its roots is the best thing for the franchise. It takes away the loadouts and the special abilities and it goes back to map control and weapon control. Now just imagine those intense multiplayer matches you had in Halo 2 and add thruster packs and unlimited sprinting in the mix.
If that doesn't have you anticipating the game now even more than you were. Well you must've never played Halo 2 multiplayer and won't understand why Halo 5: Guardians is our most anticipated game of 2015.
The honorable mentions
As someone who isn't a huge RPG fan I'm even surprised with myself that my personal pick for most anticipated game of 2015 is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I know little about the story of past Witcher games, but after seeing gameplay trailers and screens of the game I can't wait to get a hold of it.
Also, have you seen that crazy new trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight? Rocksteady has steadily delivered amazing Batman titles and this one is looking to take the cake for the best in the series. I mean the fact that you can now drive the Batmobile and the map is completely larger is enough to make me scrounge up some pennies for the game.
Lastly but definitely not least, Quantum Break. Another new IP by a powerhouse studio that is coming exclusively to Xbox One. Remedy knows how to mix great gunplay and amazing storylines as if they are creating a blockbuster movie. They also aren't afraid to take chances. The idea of Remedy tying together a live-action production to a video game is nuts. But if there is anyone in the gaming sphere that could pull it off, it is definitely them.
So there you have it. These are the most anticipated games of 2015 for Xbox One. Sound off in the comments below and let know which games you are anticipating in the new year.
